I have what looks like the exact same lock with the bird on the side, mine opens easy enough with a DeForest half diamond in 25 thousandths.

I have a remarkable similar one. It's usability increased a lot after I added a same shape tension tool under the factory one. It just fits. It has a short tip so it can be used tok and bok.

I have used this tool on a regular basis for my handyman service and it's usually the first tool I try before pulling out my proper lock pick set . It often works out okay but as you say , has its limitations . I actually have 2 in . 1 on my keyring and a spare in my essentials bag . For the money , I think they are worth investing in .

Love these, I work for a municipality in Parks and over the years, there are a few locks that no longer have a key and having one of these for quick use really comes in handy!
I use the H&H and it works ok. Yes you are restricted by the tensioner and a tweek on the picks and it will do a better job on locks.

Hi Lock Noob, just a reply on the Stainless not being magnetic comment. The chances are it is Stainless, and some types of stainless are magnetic, also other types of stainless if worked (struck with a hammer or punched out etc) become magnetic even if they were not originally that way. So, long story short... magnetic or non magnetic isn't a good measure to assess the material composition. If you would like more info on this just reply and I will send my contact info, and in case your wondering why i would know this, I am a professor in welding and metal fabrication and part of it is teaching metallurgy ;)

I always carry one of these as an EDC backup. I've learned that it's almost as strong as 0.18 picks. A single tension tool is all that ticks me off about it, but everything else works great!
My new favorite pick profile at 8:54 what he calls the half ball. Anyone that has this pick and an American 1100; try that pick with top of the keyway tension. So much control and accuracy! It slides along the bottom of the keyway with the tip just under the keypins. Lift a little and slide it and in and out and just touch the tip of the pins. Hard to describe but an American 1100 I was having a hard time with I had open in mere moments. And an ABUS 55/40 that I never opened after hours of trying I had open three times in just a few minutes. Other locks too where I'm surprised to find it fits the keyway. It's similar to when you use bottom of the keyway tension and the pick can rest on the tensioner, but way better. I thought that profile was just another weird profile I would never use but now it's my favorite.

I have one of the H&H one's, it works - of sorts. Used to have the Southord one but lost that somewhere lol As a bare minimum carry, I guess this is it, with all its limitations...
I made up a lightweight pick set, in a diy pouch, with: 8 Southord Euro picks, 4 BOK wrenches,5 TOK wrenches, and the whole thing isn't _very_ much bigger or heavier than one of these jacknife sets - but mine will cope with almost any lock I'm capable of picking....ok, that isn't a massive number, but you know...at least I can fail using nice Southord picks :o)
(yes, cost might be an issue, before anyone says it !)

I have the H&H which isn’t great but it does the trick now I’ve shortened the hook a little and polished them all up a little. I don’t know if I would rate a jackknife, I think the madbobs one looks best constructed, but I don’t rate the pick steel strength compared to the likes of Law Lock Tools and Sparrows 😁🥚
RCS (southern specialties) has quite a good jacknife pick!

John Egginton No, the pivoting arm on the side does. It’s a friction lock, and is much less intrusive than the screw at the bottom on the cheaper ones.
Jackknife Lock Picks are always a compromise - I guess that’s why I don’t carry one myself :-)
could you take it apart and replace some of those profiles with better ones from say covert instruments? they have a lot of different styles for their multi-tool that look like that might fit
I think I understand their meaning of the 6 block now. You drive around 6 blocks then pick a lock, that or you just run 6 blocks after getting caught picking a lock. Nice review Ash.

I was working on a master lock 3, while watching thing. I was having a little difficulty. I saw you rake it. So I grabed a little rake, and that worked. LOL
I have a tool similar to that one. I don't think it have that name. It is just a cheap Chinese version.

There are hundreds of different brands of this set, but all are identical. I think it's just one manufacturer that distributes them to suppliers who put their own name/logo on them.
My set is by H&H and i love it but I modify mine.
First off I found the thumb screw kept loosening while I was picking, so I cut a slot in it and use the tempi on wrench as a screwdriver to tighten it
You can buy replacement blades/picks for it at southord.
I am currently waiting for delivery for a few...I will replace the offset half ball with a smaller hook, and replace the other half ball with a normal snake rake. The offset rake is actually pretty good once you get used to it, so I will keep that.
But if I was in Europe were dimple locks are more common I would only keep one snake rake, and modify one pick into a flag for dimples.
I'm still working out how to integrate a TOK tensioner into this set.
Yeah I always thought that there may be one or two factories making multiple brands. Wish I knew for sure!

I have a similar clone, brand name Haoshi, bought it on Banggood. I've opened Master LOTOs and other non-trivial locks with that, so it's good in my book.

Hi Lock Noob, I've been watching a lot of your videos lately. I'm a big SouthOrd fan and I saw your review of their Jackknife set and wanted to get it. Then I saw your review of the Multipick Jackknife blackline and decided I should ask your advice. What do you think is the absolute best jackknife set available? I greatly appreciate your advice.
I really could not say, I would say that go for a reputable brand with good reviews and you won't go too far wrong

What about removing the picks from the tool and replacing it with your own rakes of different profiles just wondering how difficult it would be to drill out the pin and have everything to work
You could do that, but it might take more time and money that’s it’s worth :-)

I would rather 3d print the tool. I had this and it was annoying how heavy it felt. Get the aluminium version for 10usd
not found on Amazon in USA, but Ebay has a different brand for just under $20

Lock Noob yeah that just makes me go in at weird angles to compensate for it :-) since watching your video ive started adding the jackknife to the list of picks to try when I have a go at a lock, just so I can get a feel for them. I’m waiting patiently for the swick from Kickstarter that looks really good and it seems to be moving ahead now after some delay.

I'm gonna give you a tip about how to remove the tension tool properly in every one of those kits, don't try to "pick it up" with your fingers like you did in the video, instead put your thumb between the middle and the open end of it and simply slide out.
Alex O this is too tight, it doesn’t simply slide out. I’m certain other ones might though, if they were less tight. Maybe it’s just this one, maybe it’s this model; who knows?!
@@LockNoob it's suppose to be tight, it won't slide out by itself you have to put some pressure on it from the side, if it slid right out without any pressure then it would just fall out but that's why at the end you'll notice this little bend, that bend keeps it in the kit.
thanks, that was interesting. It is not something I would ever need. The size of the tool ends, the width of the shafts, is a bit off putting and I think limiting. Especially for us low skill starters.

Not sure how you can take the 'Godpick' seriously? I'm in favour of trying cheap tools esp for noobs and I won't argue with anything that works. Do you have a link for it? I like the Hybrid ball profile, and I want to try making one. Also, none of your Sparros links work either, I like the idea of the Gut Wrench.

Yes another product cheap enough to modify to suit your taste in picks.casing a little heavy.Does work on most locks in my skill range. but prefer My'' MadBob'' set lighter in the hand when working and more feedback for me.I got three of these for the play on words ''GODPICK' and ''Unique'' I used to do a magic act under the name of Uni-Que. So for me yes it works just a little heavy in my hands.
The Mad Bob Set is loads better :-)

Master has bad quality pins that damage easily I've raked the same lock a ton of times until you get a pin that seizes and needs wd40 or complete replacement of spring or pins. bad bad quality of materials. oh and great video and review

fanert1 so what we learned is it works on the one you have that was made by another company. This one is very tight. Sliding with your thumb does not work.

A snake of any shape would be on the bottom of the list.
It is cheap but not good. In fact, beginners will be disappointed and never try to pick a lock again. Maybe the pros might wish to take it with them for a plaything.
The good: the picks have a width of 0,5mm = 20/1000 inch only, good for all locks
The bad:
1. The spanner is crap. Better get yourself a TOC spanner
2. The picks can not be fixed with that funny little screw, and they are too short anyway. You will get no feeling at all. You might try other screws with the same thread size. It's not a matter of length, or of grip, but of the form or precision of the end of the thread.
Copy what you need from your good picks (if you already have some), sawing, filing, grinding, dremel. Use feeler gauge tape of 0.5 millimeters = 20/1000 inch. Drill a hole at the end of each and rivet them together for EDC.
Copy a good TOC spanner. You can use a 1-Dollar-Knife of 1.0 millimeters. Grind the other end down to 0.8 millimeters so you have the sizes most used.
Feel free to not copy but drill a hole in the picks of your fancy 40-Dollar-Set or more, of course. I prefer to make the steel brown with phosporic acid, scratch the contours of the picks on it with a very fine scribe awl and duplicate the picks for daily use, let aside taking them with me.
Disclaimer: the copying to feeler gauge tape and putting shrinking tube on it for a handle idea is mine, having been thrifty all my life (and I did not want to break the expensive multipick picks somebody gave to me as a beginner), some ideas are from Bosnianbill.

I actually replaced my broken rake pick with one from a credit card set, only took about 5 minutes with a Dremil tool and a drill bit.
These cheap ones do not work . I mean once maybe twice but use regularly they will break in the cylinder. HPC makes the real deal.
Yes, that's true but to have for use in emergency, even one use would warrant the cheap price. I've had one for years and finally snapped the rake profile.

You methods needs some finesse and you would pick faster. Calm down and do it calm and slow. Always the best method. I always tell new guys...if you are trying to pick like you have to poop you will not get it open the moment you relax and not try so hard you will pick it instantly.
