It's called "The Great Story of The Urutau", it's about a princess that wasn't the prettiest in the village but she had the kindest of hearts and a prince who was a vain young man, who fell in love for eachother because they'd encounter only at night, so they didn't actually know how eachother looked in daylight... But once the moon was too bright and the prince didn't think she was the prettiest in the village, so he left her for the one who was the prettiest but vain like him... And the princess was so heartbroken that cried so much one night that the moon felt sorry for the moon's mistake, wanted to make emends to the girl somehow... So it gave her one wish, and she wished to be a night bird that nobody could see but that everyone could hear her sad cry from a long distance, so then it was, and she flew along following her prince everywhere without him ever knowing it... (Ps. It's very summarized, you should read the original, it's pretty, it was my favourite bedtime tale as a child...) ❤🇧🇷

They R harmless, can't run fast, waddle when they run & have become very scarce over the past at least 2 -3 decades. They think the coyotes are the main predator but also a pack of red ants will kill them too. Look them up, they're super adorable.!! ❤ Plz don't take them or the babies home thinking U can make them pets. They die in captivity quickly 😢😢

Down here in Argentina we call it kakuy and the Indigenous people have an interesting legend about them: There are two indigenous orphan siblings, the brother, Kako, and the sister, whose name we don't know. Kako was laborious and dedicated to the raising of his sister, he loved her so much and he wanted the best for her, but she mocked him and made bad and heavy pranks to him. Once, Kako came back from hunting, tired, and asked his sister to prepare some water with honey for him to drink, and she did so but, in the moment she gave him the water, she spill it all over him. Tired of his sister's pranks and feeling sad and humiliated, Kako let a few days go and told her to go to the jungle to play a game. Once there, he made her climb a tree and, once she was in the top, he cut the tree's branches off, leaving her in the top, no way to go down. Desperate, the sister started shouting: "Kako, uy!!", meaning "Kako, I'm in trouble". The shout got louder everytime and her throat got hurt, at the end she could barely emit hoarse sounds. By the time, the spirit of the jungle looked at her with piety and transformed her into a bird for her to escape the tree, and her desperate shout little by little turned out to be one of the most singular birdcalls all around the continent. And that is how kakuy came to this world.
Other version says Kako wasn't actually his name, but a Quechua word for "stay" and that what she shouted was actually "turay", which in Quechua stands for "my brother", some say she even said both at the time, so: *"my brother, stay!"*

In Brazil they're called Urutau, and also Mãe da Lua (Mother of the Moon). Some people believe they're bad luck. IMO, they're beautiful and seeing one is great luck! They stay so imobile, that most people and even animals just can't notice them, even in daylight.
