Yes, this is another video on how to do push ups!
Why though? Because you still do them wrong!
Alright, alright, seriously, look around how many people do the push ups wrong.
Did you record yourself to check how you do it though?
This is also an important thing, but the other reason I’m making this video, because many people don’t explain, what are the prerequisites of the push ups.
If you follow the channel and watched my previous videos, you know that the push ups and the other basic calishtenics exercises are not the first steps in calishtenics or bodyweight training.
And if you haven’t watched them, I tell you now: the basic calishtenics exercises like push ups, pull ups, etc, are not the first step in calishtenics or bodyweight training.
Rather the second step. The first step is the joint preparation or prehab. You can find more info about these in my previous videos, but we’ll touch base this topic in this one as well.
So, almost nobody talks you about the joint preparation exercises for the push ups, and everybody comes with plenty of variations which only confuses people.
They can’t even do the regular push ups but they are already thinking about variations. So we could say “there is another variation where you just need to elevate your legs and do the push ups…
    No….
In this video, we’re gonna check what you need to do before you start the regular push up and how to do it right if you want to benefit the most in calishtenics.

I’m loving your videos and I appreciate how you refer back to prerequisite videos so that I don’t have to waste my time and focus on what I need work on now. I’ve been doing push ups for 35 years and when I followed your instructions I got the best chest workout ever. Thank you for your outstanding videos.

Adam, All of your video explanations and demonstrations are far superior in quality to the huge range of calisthenics and fitness gurus on TH-cam. I'm very glad I found your channel and excited to master the basics of pre-hab and fundamental core skills properly. You clearly speak as an authority with masterful experience and quality training. I just discovered your channel Adam. You do a really nice job of explaining things in a way those of us who are unfamiliar with the details of performing these movements correctly can understand.
After many years of using weights, it is thought-provoking and interesting wondering whether this would be a safe and practical path at 54 to journey into.
I want to be lean, retain as much needed strength as possible and the ability to better control my body in movement is attractive as well.
I’ve always admired the gymnastics body look. Bigger or smaller, they always look impressive.
    Thank you for your videos.

Slow and controlled is key to faster gains, because it creates a more accurate muscle adaptation signal. Slow down and control the lowering. Do what you will with the concentric.
This allows maximum visible gains at the fastest rate.

A Question: When we are getting down we adduct (contract) the shoulder blades, and keep them locked as we start pushing up, and at the top of the movement we do the aBduction, or right at the beginning of the upward movement (when we start to pushing up) do we start to separate the shoulder blades?

Is there any reason why palms can't be a bit sideways, thumb facing forward? Ive been doing pushups like that for the last year, due to, obviously wrist pain. The wrist pain didnt come from basic push ups, but from planche related exercices without proper warm up there, and sometimes it keeps on while doing normal training. It still feels natural having the thumb facing forward but what is your take on it?
