thats the cutest thing ive seen all day. turning around and eating the placenta was a bit disturbing, but then my piggies used to eat their poop, i guess its just how they roll
The mother takes care of them and cleans them. They are born with their eyes open and they can eat solid food xD my guinea pig pixie had her babies two days ago
@saxysai so if one is a pellet..and the other is poop..do they know the difference or could they accidentally eat a poop pellet?? i just bought 2 GP's and they eat it too but it looks like poop..how can i tell the difference?
for one its a closeup you dont know how big the cage is two its recording where do you see flashing? three the bedding is probably being moved as the mother is moving quite a bit :) pay attention
A genuine question: Won't all the camara flashes effect the babies or the mother? They have their eyes open pretty much since birth but, are they sensitive to the light? Does it stress them?
I have a question i just bought a new guinea pig at a petstore and i think it is a boy but it is supposed to be a girl but im not sure and and now my other guinea pig who is a girl who is like 4 months old and she looks a little bigger than usual but the new guinea pig a got is like2 months old and now my first guinea pig looks bigger does this mean she is pregnant?
@LittleBi1 Yes, it is. They have 2 kinds of feces; one is actually like a pellet of digestive bacteria that they eat so that they can digest food better. Totally normal. :)
I know this was a long time ago but you must have more in the bottom of the cage, and also a much bigger cage! I have straw in the bottom of the cage for all my guineapigs and its a really thick layer, 'round 5-10 cm thick. And also much more hey. The babys will never reach when you keep hey in those thingies way up on the cage wall.
I had six guinea pigs, LAST NIGHT ONE OF THEM HAD 3 BABIES WE DIDNT EVEN KNOW SHE WAS PREGNANT! But one didn't survive ): and the 2 that do survive are identical you can't tell them apart in anyway they are both solid Black and the one that didn't would have actually looked different lol); so we named them thing one and thing two (:
You shouldn't take the photo with the flash it will scare the babies and especial the mama and let the Guinea pig have peace she knows she's doing a good job
"The guinea pig (Cavia porcellus), also called the cavy, is a species of rodent belonging to the family Caviidae and the genus Cavia." At lot of the guinea pigs that are used for reptile feeders are runts or "imperfect" ones that come from breeders whole breed these guys to sell to petstores.
the video doesn't show the entire cage, it could be enormous. and maybe there is a hide box and enough bedding, but you can't see the hide box and she scattered the bedding. you could be right, but don't jump to conclusions. your negativity will hurt you more than others. ALSO- it's a video, not flash photography.
....That guinea pig is like a clown car....how does she fit that many large babies in her body. I'm sorry I just can't get over how large those babies are and I feel so bad for her right now. lol
yep , at the local rescue they had some baby's in and one was already pregnant where the owners had left the dad in the cage ... even the brothers had defects :(
My Guinea pig had three pups yesterday. When the first was born she bit into it's stomach then ate it's ear then ate half the other ear. I didn't know what to do because when she wasn't giving birth to the next pup, she would try to eat the first baby so I took him out. She bit off the toe to the next one so I took it out too. Then she had the third and I knew that right after she had the baby she would eat it so I took it out once I saw it breathing. They weren't moving like these guys and die
@cosmic1125 I think it's because it's not very nice to put the mother and babies through so much stress during the birth... They could at least have given the mother a house she could hide in while she was giving birth. I would never put my guinea pigs through something like that no matter how curious I was to see the whole thing. It's just not very nice to do that sort of thing.. kinda disrespectful to the animals
Its actually good to watch over guinea pig birth to make sure they do not have any complications since guinea pigs usually have complications during birth and die while giving birth
Oh, what did you do Friday night, watched a guinea pig give birth to a few other guinea pigs...my life is awesome

@odaughterofzion7 i think they need that to stimulate milk production
