This is my favorite kind of advertising. An honest review by someone who truly likes and uses the product, despite not being paid to do so. Thank you, sir!
I always look forward to your videos. I've smoked a pipe off and on for the past twenty years; I must say watching all of your videos has gotten me hooked exclusively to the joys of piping. You even inspired me to making a display box similar to your for my pipes that sits within my antique curio.
I own and use daily a full sized Kiriibi Kabuto Lighter and I love it much. I smoke at least eight bowls a day. My Kabuto will last over a week before needing to be refueled. I easily can recommend the Kiribi Brand of Butane Lighters.
Thanks, Muttnchop. I purchased this lighter based on your review. And, I think it looks beautiful and functions great. I'm glad this lighter is part of my smoking regiment.
After 2 years of use my kiribi kabuto felt on the floor by accident and was broken. It loses gas. I sent back to online shop where i bought it, but the post company lost it... i lost my kiribi, the 15 euros from post company.. they gave me 48 euros for compensation for lose my package. I just got a zippo now.. but miss my kiribi.
Will Frites - thank you for the kind words my friend, and you didn't know it, but after you watch one of my videos you are considered an old friend. 👍👍👍
Have watched a few of your videos over the years, but finally decided to subscribe and spend some time looking through the content. Great stuff, thank you.
Ashley Boyd - you didn't subscribe my fiend, you joined the muttnchop pipe club, calling it subscribing sounds so cold and disconnected, we all love pipe smoking, a brotherhood of pipe smokers, and I am very pleased you have joined. 👍👍👍
This video is proof positive, that the tin opening ritual can cause a grown man to light up, like a 6 year old on Christmas morning. Thanks for another great review Chris!
D35611 - lol, lol, that is so true my friend, so you caught my glee at opening a fresh tin did you? Well I admit it, it is like opening a Christmas present on Christmas morn. 👍👍👍
I was looking to purchase either this same lighter or a IM Corona Old Boy. I think they are like you said very well made and hold up. The Briar and the Burley had a good selection of them also. I need to visit again, pipe smoking heaven lol. Take care Chris. -Clayton
indianapiper 36 - Clayton, I have heard good things about the IM Corona Old Boy, matter of fact that's the lighter I was going to purchase until I was introduced to the Kiribi when I visited Smokingpipes. I don't think you will go wrong with either choice. 👍👍👍
I just got one of these lighters for Christmas. Actually it is the taller one and the Silver limited edition version. I can tell that it is more superior by far than my other lighters. - So question time. 1) Which fuel is best to refill it with? 2) Do you use Kiribi replacement flints or does it matter?
Nice review Chris. I'm using mostly Old Boy(Peterson) and Zippo lighters. I think those are the best. Smoking some Dunhill Ready Rubbed re-make and this is actually better than Murray's,just Oriental,Burley,Virginias with almost to none casing. Nice mild blend, perhaps too mild in every department. Have great weekend and as always cool smokes, mate.
Barf Nugget - this is how I go about putting tobacco in my jars, it it's a 1/2 pint which will hold 2 oz. of tobacco, I put a whole tin in the jar, fill it up smash it down, fill it up smash it down until the whole tin or 2 oz. of tobacco is in the jar. For larger jars designed for long term storage I fill the jar and smash it down tight all the way to the top, you want the tobacco tightly packed because when you do that and it starts to age, the tobacco's will combine flavors better, and the Fermenting Virginia, will release its sugar coating the other blend components making Florida a smother sweeter smoke. 👍👍👍
Barf Nugget - sorry, about the weird words in odd places, auto correct causes me more headaches. You're welcome my friend, and thank you for watching. 👍👍👍
I had the Peterson lighter in this format and the lever snapped off. I want something similar, but a little less pricey- and I believe this may be the ticket. Thank You.
Yes I did check these lighters out at few online retailers, they seem very reliable and elegant, and are not overly priced, if only there wasent only our import taxes to pay ,,shall check if this brand may existe on the Eu market, and by what price,Thanks for the info.Paul
Paul The Scandinavian - I hate that for you guys, it reminds me of a scene in one of my favorite movies, Dragonheart, the dragon hunter is stopped on the road by some of the kings officials and asked "What are you doing here?" To which the dragon hunter replies, "I'm just freely traveling on the road, unless the king has taxed it" then the kings official gets a look on his face like yeah the king could tax people to travel on the roads, and rush back to tell the king. Feels like the same thing with you guys, someone in the government said hay I got an idea, let's tax everything our citizens want that shipped into our country, sad, truly sad. 👍👍👍
Yes so true, and this depeds how actively Customs and border protection agets are sniffing into each parcel coming from outside of EU region and I can affirm you ours are among the worst ones, meaning that all parcels coming into wheter is from U,S-Canada or Russia are due to customs duties/taxes IF the merchandise total value is more than $ 30 ,Primarly this means an additional sales taxes which is + %24 added to a total merchandise value shipping incl. Same thing with the transportation, all car owners are to pay annual transport tax if they are using their own personal cars on public roads, and this fee is not a hay, but several hundred- Crazy world, especially back here in ol' continent.Be Well, Chris, Chat later,Paul
After fooling around with matches I bought the Kibiri lighter. I'm having problems filling it with butane. Here's my method: set flame to (-), bleed the lighter, press the butane nozzle firmly down onto the fill. As soon as I press the butane starts spraying out everywhere. Is there a trick to this? Sometimes after several presses the lighter won't light. Other times it does. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Thanks for any and all advice.
Muttnchop piper Hi just bought sample of English blends of Boswell from Boswell pipe tobacco . I like them lot . I finally found English blends I can smoke
I just got my first tin of tobacco last month and it just so happened to be Dunhill early morning. After I saw your other video about the coloring on the paper I put it in a mason jar and found the same coloring. I was lucky to have bought a nicely aged tin for my first ever purchase. ☠️ Also I bought myself an Elementium Plazmatic lighter and use it to light hemp wick then use the hemp wick to light my bowls, it too has been a good lighter. ☠️
@@MuttnchopPiper hi Chris could you do a video on how tastes change over time and certain blends and tobbacos begin to becoming Appealing as one advances as a pipe smoker. It would make for an interesting video mate. Some folk when they start they can't understand what they are tasting or what they like, and a video for them would be great. Detailing how Tastes change in time, how to approach certain tobbacos in regards to cadence ect and why some blends seem awful yet years later are firm favourites and the new smokers journey through that field. Just a recommendation for a solid piece of content
great video, I like this kind of surprises in the end :) . I have already purchase a few jars where I let my tobacco to age. First one Im going to put into is Peterson Old Dublin.
I've bought a lot of high end lighters ($100 range) for my cigar smoking and have learned over time that no matter how well you take care of them, no matter what quality of butane you use, how you fill them, etc., they're not really worth a damn. I went back to wood matches and Bic lighters. They never let you down. Go ahead and spend the money if you want to, but I'm done with expensive lighters.
Gabby Hayes - My Kiribi Kabuto is still going strong 3 years in, but I tend to agree, most matches work every time, and don’t cost an arm and a leg. 👍👍👍
I was needing a good reliable lighter when you put out this review. I got the same model from SmokingPipes at the beginning of August, and I've been very happy with it. It's been extremely reliable, and the you're right about the fuel capacity. It lasts longer than what you'd think was possible from such a small lighter. One thing that caught me off guard was having to replace the flints. Luckily I found some old Ronson flints lying around the house. Do you bother with getting Kiribi flints? Also, why was this particular model recommended by the shop rather than the taller model? Thanks for your videos. They're a great source of information and entertainment.
Wayne Capuyan - I don't get Kiribi specific flints, but I get flints that fit and work in that model. I was steered toward this model because of its compact size and ease of carrying in a pocket. 👍👍👍
David Marsh - I have not, a lot of people swear by them, say they are the best pipe lighter, some have a problem with the fuel taste it sometimes gives the Tobacco, I decided not to chance it, so I went with the Kiribi Kabuto. 👍👍👍
Im a pretty new piper and occasionally a cigar smoker and when I went looking for a quality pipe lighter, I stopped at Zippo. It's a revered brand worldwide and the brand needs no further explanation. I'm completely satisfied for the basic pipe lighter model and for less than $20 you can't beat it. You really don't get a taste from it unless you draw really hard or put it out and if you encounter that, its gone in a flash. I can fire up going down the highway at 65mph with the windows down. Try that with a regular butane lighter.
I bought their kaboto short two years ago. The lighter held up pretty good in the first year. But then everything start to go wrong. I sent my lighter to them for repair, and receive it back 5 months later. 2 months after, gas leak, hard to ignite happen once again. I'm done with it. Kiribi really disappoint me.
Muttnchop piper I was wondering what good English blend pipe tobacco to get started with I'm struggling with this, just can't seem get into the English , can't taste it . Maybe not right words to describe it
THOMAS BARRETT - one of the best English blends out there is G.L. Pease Westminster, nice and sweet from the Virginia's, but the Latakia is deep and delicious. 😃😃😃
Hi Muttnchop; Question please- Can you turn the wheel on the lighter in either direction? I am left-handed and if the wheel only turns in one direction, I want to know if I would be turning the wheel towards me or pushing away from me. Thank you for your time.
Craig Hellberg - Honestly, I have never tried pushing the wheel in the other direction, I'm at work right now, when I get home I will try it out and get back to you. 👍👍👍
Just ordered the tall from the Pipe Nook. What sort of flints do you use in that pipe? I haven't been able to fine Kiribi flints anywhere. Thanks for the video!
Guy Boor - ok, look on the back of any Dunhill tin of tobacco, and you should see a set of letters and numbers starting with CB. Here is how you read that number. I will be using the tin I have; C = Factory B = Factory 0 = Machine 2 = Machine 2 = year K = Month 1= Day 4 = Shift. CB022K14. 👍👍👍
As always! Very nice video. My order with the best blends from 2016 are on the way, thanks to your advices. I want to ask you about Chacom Pipes. I know you are a Savinelli fan, but I wanted to ask you how are the chacom pipes for a begginer pipe smoker. Thank you very much.
Pablo Bennett - they are awesome, I have owned 1 Chacom pipe in my pipe smoking life and it was a good smoker, they are inexpensive but high quality in materials and manufacturing. 👍👍👍
Based on my experience in past and now,Chacom and Butz Choquins, Yet Ropp pipes all they have great value, nevertheless ,the draw and steam airway may be a bit more narrow/restricted in comparition to Stanwell/Petersons and especially to Savinellis, but craftsmanship and finishing are on high level-pricewise Made in France pipes are very good.
Hi Chris, Thank you for this interesting video, as for lighters I'm fixing to acquire a Peterson Old Boy type but later, cause most of my spending money went to brand new pipes lately, so I'm getting along with my China replica and yet I have that wonderful brass fuel Zippo with pipe insert in it, although,I see using fuel lighters indoors a bit inappropriate, when Indoors I prefer using matches for that initial charring light .Moreover,if I'were about getting me a pricey (costing more than $30 total)lighter sended from Americas this might involve me in paying import duties ,so when a quality lighter popps up on to my buying list ,I might be better off buying it right here within Eu,since No added Taxes.Kabutos, Petersons ,Japan make Old Boys, all them are great lighters.Thank You Chris,Be well, Paul
How did you find out how old that tin was? And I'm also confused by what size mason jars you use in your cabinet behind you? I went to buy the wooden soda crate and my mason jars are a little to wide. Do you use the smaller 8oz? Thanks again for the videos! Been looking for a new one! 👍
Braxton Burrows - Dunhill tobacco has a code on the bottom of the tin that tells you when the tin was produced. Go to smokingpipes.com, and you should find a search button, put in Dunhill pipe tobacco code, and it should pop up some info on how to read the code. Yes I use the 8 oz. size of jar. The Early Morning Pipe tobacco I show in this video was produced in 2012. 👍👍👍
muttnchop Piper you should really check out the xikar pipeline pipe lighter which is like your lighter.. (meaning the old style pipe lighters) it's made in America and comes with a life long warranty! made in America lifetime warranty.. what more can you ask for ;)
Muttnchop Piper yes very reliable and if it ever breaks or has any issues at all send it in and they will fix or replace within two weeks. just sign up the lighter on the xikar website when you purchase it and you are 100% covered for life! and they will send you a free Sheth for your lighter when u sign up for your lifetime warranty.. I love it and had for 14 months now with no issues..100% made in USA as well
After using an Erik Stokkebye 4th generation IM corona clone for a year and being completely disgusted with its quality, I almost bought a real IM Corona Old Boy today. That was before I saw this video, and I purchased a full size version of this lighter instead.
Never seen this lighter, but it would take something real special to pull me away from xikar lighters. Lifetime warranty and the best customer service I've seen. I have a Corona old boy and it burned my finger every time I used it with that wheel or that cap you close. User error I'm sure lol. I'll check this lighter out though Chris. Always willing to take advice from a man with your experience. Be well....
is smoking pipes open to the public with a walk in store or is it warehouse? I live about 2 hours from there and was thinking about making the roadtrip.
Jed Knouse - it’s technically not, but if you walk to the front door and say you would like to take a tour of smokingpipes and Cornell and Diehl tobacco’s, they probably won’t refuse you, but just to be safe you might want to give them a call. 👍👍👍
Hi Chris! Very nice video! I just bought this lighter and i am really excited to receive it. I want to ask you, how do maintain your lighter and keep it shiny?
I tried smoking pipe years ago and like many, I got frustrated and put all my pipe stuff and tobacco in storage and enjoyed my cigars. I recently dug it all out and am giving it another try. I got to looking for a lighter and saw your video about the Kiribi Kabuto. I found one on Pipe and Cigar for under $70. It arrive today and looks like a very nice lighter. I like having a flint and striker igniter. Over the years I used cheap cigar jet lighters and considerably more expensive jet lighters and ended up finding cheaper lighters more economical as the $$$ ones had problems also. Being as pipe lighters are a totally different animal I thought I'd take your recommendation. I am hoping this Kiribi will prove to be the ticket as reviews on the cheaper pipe lighters always mention a lot of issues with leaking or flat out breaking. I am still hit and miss at packing my pipes for a nice bowl that smokes all the way to the bottom. Because I often get bowls that don't burn to the bottom, I drop a little cheaper cube cut loosely in the bottom and then pack the better tobacco on top. At the very least I am not dumping out expensive tobacco when I'm done. I've been enjoying you videos and the relaxing conversation. Thanks
Josiah Hawkins - I like lighters better, main and only reason, is less mess, with a lighter just light and go, with matches you have to find somewhere safe to dispose of the spent match. 😏😏😏
About the same as a lot of lighters of this type, not to well, I mean if you cup your hand around it to block the wind it does fine, but it is blown out quite easily if you don't. :( :( :(
how do you like that tin of King Cake by C&D. I enjoy it and It sells well here in Baton Rouge. I just am wondering what you think because I can hardly find any reviews.
I'm sorry but I can NOT recommend Kiribi Kabuto. I don't know what happened between then and now but their customer service is bad, they offered to replace mine and backed out on their word.
Muttnchop Piper You meight not belive this..but today i recived my first pipe and im going to smoke it first time in my life...and its 320 same one you have ... so excited 😄
Well I broke down last week and ordered a Kiribi Mikazuki need to get home to pick it up. But now we have seen the lighter what about your pet meerschaum project? Lol
Chris Campbell - I am embarrassed to tell you 😒 every time I take it out to pack it with tobacco, I marvel at how beautiful it is, then I can't bring myself to load it. I will eventually get over this love affair for my meerschaum, thanks for asking. 😩😩😩
I only do that when I open the tin to smoke some of the tobacco inside. Once the tin is opened it does not seal properly and eventually the tobacco will dry out. Putting it in a canning jar properly seals it.
Hey Muttnchop Piper! I wanted to ask if you still like and use this lighter? Also, what are your thoughts about something like an IM Corona Old Boy? I purchased a $20 lighter from my B&M and it’s okay, but if I’m deciding to make this a hobby I’d like a nicer one. I came back to this video to ask because it’s relevant to this video.
Yes, I still use it, and after 6 years it’s still working great, absolutely no problems, I fill it with butane, replace the flint now and again, and it just keeps lighting, highly recommended
The Kiribi is cheap, I smoke one bowl a day and the hinge wears out in two years. Gas escapes, the flame may not go out and can become a fire hazard. SP has a monopoly on parts and only would sell them to me after making a bad review. They wanted me to spend $35 plus $20 international shipping to repair a $65 lighter every two years, on parts that cost around $2.50, don’t think so! The screws strip real easily, you’ll have to constantly keep them tight or they fall out or your lighter disintegrates in your hand. I have abandoned the Kiribi and can’t recommend it. After another bad review SP gave me my money back. Great customer service, but it was necessary to call them out over money grabbing tactics and marketing the lighter to us. I will be buying an IM corona old boy as soon as I find the one I like on sale, and according to chuck, this thing will hopefully last me ten years. Should have tried it from the start, but I am glad SP made good on the Kiribi.

Semper Fi Marine.

long live the brass zippo the lighter of pro pipe smokers long live Sir Walter Raleigh the only man to measure the weight of smoke.

Great video! Do you know any place that will repair vintage colibri butane lighters? I'm having no luck finding anyone to fix my old Colibri rollagas
Great review muttnchop looks like a good lighter. Smoking pipes is a great company to deal with .
George Tiedemann - I agree with everything you said. 👍👍👍
Tillerman7 OH - I think any flint designed for lighters would do. 👍👍👍
I just found them on Ebay
Shaun Harrison- Great to hear. 👍👍👍
Mutt could you send me the explanation that you did on the date code for the Dunhill tobacco i would like to check my own
Guy Boor - ok, look on the back of any Dunhill tin of tobacco, and you should see a set of letters and numbers starting with CB. Here is how you read that number. I will be using the tin I have; C = Factory B = Factory 0 = Machine 2 = Machine 2 = year K = Month 1= Day 4 = Shift. CB022K14. 👍👍👍
ok so my tin of DurBar reads CB024G84
I believe this breaks down to (2014,) (July), (8th day) (shift4)
Guy Boor - that's correct. 👍👍👍
Paul The Scandinavian - thanks Paul, and I agree buy the best lighter you can where you live, no need to pay import duty tax if you don't need to. 👍👍👍
(meaning the old style pipe lighters) it's made in America and comes with a life long warranty! made in America lifetime warranty.. what more can you ask for ;)
Chris Pierce - is it reliable? Do you have one of these lighters? 👍👍👍
Be well....
Smokin' Briar - thank you for the kind words my friend, I have heard a lot about the Xikar lighter, I will have to check that one out as well. 👍👍👍
Just bought this lighter Chris. I'll let you know what I think. Thanks again for the advice!
Smokin' Briar - my pleasure my friend. 👍👍👍
Nice review, do you have an old boy corona and if so how long does the tank last
Chris...now that you've popped the tin, do you jar all of it or leave some in the tin so you can smoke that first?
jim coburn - no, I pop it then put all the tobacco in a Mason jar, I want to make sure it stays fresh as I smoke it. 👍👍👍
I really appreciate this video very honest and informative
P.s. thank you for sharing your 5 year old Dunhill early morning made me drool haha
Jamil - You are welcome my friend. 👍👍👍
is smoking pipes open to the public with a walk in store or is it warehouse? I live about 2 hours from there and was thinking about making the roadtrip.
Jed Knouse - it’s technically not, but if you walk to the front door and say you would like to take a tour of smokingpipes and Cornell and Diehl tobacco’s, they probably won’t refuse you, but just to be safe you might want to give them a call. 👍👍👍
Hi Chris!
Very nice video! I just bought this lighter and i am really excited to receive it.
I want to ask you, how do maintain your lighter and keep it shiny?
Simon Ninh - I use isopropyl alcohol and Q-tips, it cleans that carbon but good. 👍👍👍
Thanks
It's on sale again for $68! 😁
Still working well?
what do you think on the matches vs lighters?
Josiah Hawkins - I like lighters better, main and only reason, is less mess, with a lighter just light and go, with matches you have to find somewhere safe to dispose of the spent match. 😏😏😏
How well does the kabuto work in outdoor (windy) conditions?
About the same as a lot of lighters of this type, not to well, I mean if you cup your hand around it to block the wind it does fine, but it is blown out quite easily if you don't. :( :( :(
That's was my guess but I didn't know if the double nozzle/wider flame helped. I currently have a Peterson Old Boy Style and it has that same problem.
how do you like that tin of King Cake by C&D. I enjoy it and It sells well here in Baton Rouge. I just am wondering what you think because I can hardly find any reviews.
lsugamer13 - I like it a lot, I am not a big aromatic smoker, but it's one of the best I have smoked. 👍👍👍
Are you still using it?
I'm sorry but I can NOT recommend Kiribi Kabuto. I don't know what happened between then and now but their customer service is bad, they offered to replace mine and backed out on their word.
if you don't mind to answer me please ... how much balls on savinelli 320 a can of 50 grams makes ?
plus the ball last for how long 😳?
Uae Ua - I assume you mean bowls, you can get about 50 bowls from a 50 gram tin, and a bowl last from 20 to 45 minuets. 👍👍👍
Muttnchop Piper im sorry i meant bowls ... my bad english...thank you very much for teaching and helping always ... god bless you ❤
Uae Ua - I figured that’s what you meant, I hope I was helpful. 👍👍👍
Muttnchop Piper You meight not belive this..but today i recived my first pipe and im going to smoke it first time in my life...and its 320 same one you have ... so excited 😄
ok - just bought the lighter, we'll see how it goes, but you haven't steered me wrong yet !
Robb S. - Mine is still going strong. 👍👍👍
what as your job in the marine corps?
532kingofdastank - my MOS if you know what that is was 6114 which is an H1 Helicopter Mechanic. 👍👍👍
great video...thanks for posting
Co Mo - You bet my friend. 👍👍👍
What a coincidence, I need a decent lighter.
Bill M - I don't think you will be disappointed with this one. 👍👍👍
That sound of the tin... has the same effect of the first born child saying "Dada" for the first time... Enjoy
Ziad Ismaiel - yeah buddy, you got that right. 👍👍👍
Do you have to bleed that lighter very often?
sevenrayz - no never, but you do have to clean it with Alcohol ever so often, it soots up pretty quickly. 👍👍👍
why do you take your tobacco out of the tin and put it in a jar? Newbie here.
I only do that when I open the tin to smoke some of the tobacco inside. Once the tin is opened it does not seal properly and eventually the tobacco will dry out. Putting it in a canning jar properly seals it.
@@MuttnchopPiper Thanks for the quick reply. That makes sense.
Browsing P&C (Pipes and Cigars) catalog while watching this video. FYI they have the Kiribi for $76.00
Regards, Steve in Denver
Steve Sandvick - thanks for that info Steve. 👍👍👍
Thumbs up Muttnchop !
Bob and Donna Reynolds - thank you my friend. 👍👍👍
excellent recommendation
poker pot pipe - Thank you. 👍👍👍
Yes, I still use it, and after 6 years it’s still working great, absolutely no problems, I fill it with butane, replace the flint now and again, and it just keeps lighting, highly recommended
check out cutlerylover TH-cam channel.. he has a good review of the xikar lighter.. he is a fellow pipe tobacco reviewer like yourself
Chris Pierce - I will, thanks. 👍👍👍
Wish I could have been there to smell that tin being opened.
Najey Rifai - it was a pleasurable event for sure my friend. 👍👍👍
oh one more thi5i forgot to mention.. it's only 50 bucks! can't go wrong had for 1 year now and works flawlessly
Chris Pierce - cool. 👍👍👍
Your the man Muttnchop:))
10:17 it gets moist
I abuse smokingpipes tobacco all the time. It would be nice if they had a policy to replace free of charge even if you did abuse thier products.
Krakerjax - That would be nice. 👍👍👍
