  • / @nickfoleyuk Good morning and welcome. Today I would like to introduce guitarists to the wonder of the fabled Leslie amplifier. You may have seen the wooden box in the corner of the room and wondered what it did, watched keyboard players eyes light up whilst the bore you with the physics of it all but the question is:
What would my guitar sound like through it?
    and
How and when could I use is and what are the things to watch out for?
Want that Black Hole Sun sound do you?
Well, Im here to help. Today I get a vintage Leslie and a brand new one and show you the differences, the way to hook them up to your guitar and compare the sounds between the two.
    Sound like a plan?
    Lovely
If you have enjoyed this then can I ask a favour? Just click that like and subscribe button for me please, its helps a lot. If you love this there is always the tip jar - but times are hard, I get that.
    See you all soon!
Thanks to Hammond UK and ‪@bonnersmusic‬ for my Leslie 3300 and ‪@guitarguitaruk‬ for my lovely ‪@fender‬ Telecaster ! More from me exclusively at / nickfoleyuk

Guitar players putting their guitar through a Leslie?
Well.... ok I suppose, if they really have to. Putting their cup of coffee and cheese sandwich on top of it as well?
Now that's really crossing the line.
    You gotta have boundaries. 🤣
Really interesting video. The effect is there but it's really subtle with the guitar.
    Nice one. 👍👍

You can get a combo preamp for some of them.

On the song "Sunburn", Carl Bell used a Leslie effect on his guitar throughout. Really beautiful on picked notes. If you are going to use a real Leslie on guitar, I suggest a different microphone than what Nick used in this video. A 57 or 58 would give a more pronounced effect. Also, leaving the back on and setting the mic on one of the side tone-holes helps. Thanks for the vid, Nick. Good job.

    Awesome video!
My 1969 Leslie 122 has an inbuilt preamp on the back so I can plug my guitar directly into it.
Fast Leslie guitar is heard on lots of famous recordings, but SLOW Leslie guitar is much more subtle and adds a nice shimmer which is difficult to identify unless you know what it is

This is a cool one. Loads of great Hammond content of course but I want to get the guitarists point of view too; what do they think of Leslie amplifiers? Have they been overlooking them for years now?

Nope. Not overlooked at all. Leslies have been used with guitar for decades. The Beatles, The Stones, Clapton, Hendrix, Soundgarden, to name a few.
