Another great review. We need a shoot out between these plastic letteras and a JP-7!

Loved the video. Finally found out where the serial number was! I bought one on Ebay for about £40 a week ago inc. shipping, quite dirty inside but works like a dream. Worth mentioning, I think, that although there's no tabulator it's got an automatic indent if you hold down the blank key next to the 2 while returning the carriage from right to left: the next line begins a few spaces in, so great for new paragraphs, dialogue etc. Mine has a Pica typeface but the Underwoods have an Elite. Mine was made in Italy and on the inside of the case they've spelt it 'Tipewriter'!

Congrats on your find. These are neat little machines.

That indentation feature is common on Olivetti, on the Lettera 22 you can even reach that same point from the left by using tab while holding the margin release, if you forgot and are at the start of a line (while on the Studio 44 it works properly only from the right).

Sounds nice! You type well too! I am typing the typing method again! It is to do historic justice to dad who wanted me to take the course in the 1977. I waited for high school typing classes, however, it would have mattered a lot if I had previous experience. I self taught myself during and after higschool and college. The Olivetti seems stronger than my SCM Corsair. I can't wait for my Lettera 22 to arrive home!

I have this machine with Underwood 315 badge two tone blue/ white. The typing feel is what grabbed me on it! Very comfortable, feels solid for having a plastic body. I need to find a case as mine came without.

Just picked up the Underwood version, the “315” with Teal Blue accents..... quite nice! 1972.
By the 70’s, typewriters were getting cheap and plasticy, but this one is pretty solid, and full featured.
    Nice thorough review, thanks!

Great little machines, aren’t they? (Even with the plastic body). Super snappy.

I have noticed that Olivettis seem to age very well in every way. The plastic they used was clearly of a high quality. I only wish that my large fingers got along with Olivetti keyboards.

Yes the keyboard can feel a little cramped for some. And I agree with you on the plastics. Plus the rubber on the platen feels like new.

I have one I found last year without the case. I put it in my pile of "will get to later" but went and had a quick look after viewing your video. Mine is an Olivetti Underwood, made in Don Mills Canada and essentially similar except for the ribbon cover. Mine has the stylized Olivetti logo pressed into the plastic about over top of the right ribbon spool area. I haven't really played with it except one to see if it worked which it does. I never until now noticed the blank key next to the 2. What is it for?

The blank key is margin release. I really like the chicklet style keys on these.

Looks great! How did you get the keys to be so black? Most you see are a grungy gray. Thanks!

You could always use rubbing alcohol and cotton qtip, that's how I've cleaned three of my lettera 22s.

I’ve seen Doras online and figured they were probably the same. Cool machine!

Is working on the 31 similar to the 32?

    • @TypewriterMinutes
      @TypewriterMinutes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Mechanically they appear to be very similar.
