Great points! I was going to take SS early but then I inherited an IRA that I must take distributions from starting now so I've pushed off taking SS.

I agree with everything except for maybe the part about the safety of Social Security and the steady stream of income by taking it early.
When I reach my goal I will mentally pull that money out of my portfolio that I need to replace Social Security till I collect it. I will create a social security bridge or ladder and that money will be invested 100% safe investments(something like a 6-year CD ladder in my case).
Sounds like a sound plan!
