  • I love the color and the philosophy of those old wooden panels of
    the Mercedes cars.
    After 30 years a lot of the glamour is fading away though.
    As it was the case with the center wooden dashboard.
    To buy a new one requires a fortune!!!
    So...YEA...let`s restore the existing one!!
    I`m sorry for the long video time but there are details that i couldn`t cut of!!
    Step by step the zebrano wood is becoming alive again as new and ready to reinstalled into the car.

      Я на своём 190-м сошлифовал лаковое покрытие, покрыл морской,, красное дерево,, и нанёс в несколько слоёв 2х компонентный акриловые автомобильный лак.

    Hi my friend. Dont do it with Razor Blade !!! That is how I destroyed few zebrano woods. Correct way is to use hot iron (setting Three *** stars) no steam. Then put iron on laquer to be removed, than heat laquer and just lift it when hot it will become very soft. Wood is not damaged I guarantee. Then proper way is sand wood with 320 paper and take care because Zebrano is thin, wood underneat is just cheap plywood. Of course blow off sanding dust with compressed air, wipe with soft cloth. Then use transparent color brown for wood (Beize in German), orginal it was polyester but liquid glass (epoxy) is better. Modern technology. Tape around switches is great idea to have edges proper 90 degrees like original. After drying of 72 hours polish it to full brightness :)

      Hi there! 🙂 I appreciate your advice - feedback.😉👍 The only reason i did it with the razor blade was because the two parts have been already almost separated and i didn't have to use any force. 🤗 As you can see the slightest touch pops up the material with ease 😀🙂👌

    it's nice work.
    unfortunately, i'm very clumsy when it comes to restoring with all these details. i have a 1987 Mercedes w124 that only needs this restoration to regain its glamour and elegance.

      Thank you very much 🙂This is just a technique because i like to make things ``bulletproof``. I`m sure there are more easy and simple ways to restore the panel.Take good care of that W124. Those cars deserve to rule the streets for many years to come! 💪😉✌

      That might be true but i didn`t want to take any risk and damage the material.🙂It is still looking good and is a big improvment compared to its previous condition.🙂 I would like to learn more about the sanding and polishing.Do you have any learning video to suggest ? 🤔☺

    • @mdrc3288
      @mdrc3288  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well...painting plastics of a Mercedes interior is not a good idea. They have mostly soft high quality plastics and the result will look very poor or even destuctive. What ever you do on on a Mercedes dashboard for cracks ,it will look like a scar.There is nothing to much the material of the dashboard.It is better to order a blanket and protect the rest so no more cracks appiar.🙂😉✌

    Hi my friend! I have W124 and i have Zebrano Wood on the doors, but that‘s aftermarket and sticked and i would like to restore it. But it‘s so slim and i am afraid maybe i will damage it. Can you help me and do you have any advice for me?

    • @mdrc3288
      @mdrc3288  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well...i wouldn't recommend the material and the technic i'm using in this video for a door panel because it`s curvy. I can only recommend it for flat surfaces like shown .You better ask a local paint shop for advice about this so you can use a more suitable material for curved surfaces.

    Hey MD RC. Is it possible to tell us what products u used to "colour" the wood (wood stamp poliuretane??, and the varnish after If possible, as i don`t know if I will find the same brand here in france, with the chemical specifications.
    👍. I think I`ll soon be neeidng to take care of my mercedes Zebrano dashboard. Although it`s yet in better shape than the model u showed, but soo it will be needing some intervention.

    • @mdrc3288
      @mdrc3288  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Of course,no problem!🙂I used the SILICON from BERLING which is a high quality polyurethane wood stain varnish. After it dried out i added a two substance resin called LIQUID GLASS. It is not necessary to use the exact same products.It has only to be wood stain polyurethane and liquid glass after.😉 I hope to helped you out and wish you a great result with your car 🤞😀🍀If you still have any questions feel free to ask. I will gladly answer!🙂👍
