Lil b- “Birth of rap” from 2009 is THE cloud rap song. I remember when lil b dropped it and everyone was like, oh shit we can’t make fun of him anymore and he became the based god which was pretty much spread around the internet by 4chan. Every other cloud rap song to come after was based off off that one. I have a feeling Lil b knew how influential he would be literally naming the song birth of rap even though only 4chan lurkers knew who he was at the time. He completely changed the game, allowing “whack” rappers like asap ,Tyler the creator ,lil yachty, wiz and Mac who people thought were corny and joking around at the time to be taken seriously and take rap into a totally different lane from its gangster/crunk phase I still think backpack rap wouldn’t have happened without lil b and Soulja they were the torchbearers for a new generation allowing rap to be something other than gangster shit.
ASAP wasn't a wack rapper, he made good cloud rap music in his early years and improved from Lil B's sound but when he got the check he turned to trash. Rocky WAS somewhat of an authentic gangster rapper MC, even though we know before he was quite dubious. But he played off the image well on Live. Love. ASAP. Now, you can't tell me "Bass" doesn't slap. Rocky never used to rock with Tyler, Yatchy, and them but for whatever reason he got attached and started becoming like them, who were wack. Likewise he used to spend a lot of time with culture vultures like French Montana and Ferg himself was a wack rapper. After the fashionista stuff, Rocky fell off.
