Rosie is one of the best guitar builders in this country, expensive? yes, but worth every penny, I know because I am lucky enough to own one of her all english wood guitars.😍
Implausibly magical guitars. The bracing is often overlooked but really is a unique and highly functional work of art. The sustain is unsurpassed. Intonation is perfect. Tone is unbelievable. The bass is as weighty and deep as it gets, the trebles are fat, whole, warm; not brittle, thin or fatiguing. Materials are of the highest quality, I mean the woods on mine are just ridiculous, think “The Tree” standard. These are easily comparable to Kostals and the like (which cost even more!) despite Rosie’s training and development lacking the prestige of the Somogyi family. Her competence & skill, knowledge & insight, innovation & soulfulness and commitment is very impressive. Rosie seems to be part über-nerd, part master craftsman, part mystical wise Druidic wood whisperer, the ultimate combo for a Luthier. Did she make a deal with the devil? Nope she’s too nice but her instruments are almost implausibly good. They defy the convention of the respective tonewood combinations being capable of uncharacteristic auditory traits due to the unusual and masterful construction. Undoubtably one of the best Luthiers in the World today and that is really saying something. Like so many of us, I am an addict and I own many beautiful and unique custom or vintage instruments but my Turnstones are the most special. Worth the financial sacrifice. If you can… DO. Magical is the most apt word to describe the Turnstone experience, an experience which is a journey and which matures over time.
Exquisite guitar, great review, wonderful sound demo by both you and Clive! It only saddens me that often guitars like this end up in the hands of collectors instead of Musicians. Instruments like this are meant to be played not just looked at I’m a singer-songwriter and I’m grateful that I have a Furch Yellow Master’s Choice Gc-CR,which is still somewhat expensive, but almost 4 times less than one of these. I’m so grateful there are companies that are able to provide boutique level, quality instruments that most musicians have at least a chance of affording so we can actually make music with them!!
Most of the most beautiful things to pass through this universe go largely unnoticed, unappreciated or are otherwise witnessed by a privileged few from their unique, respective vantage points. I hear what you’re saying and would be happy hearing more talented souls expressing through the Turnstone medium (this will inevitably happen) but I can’t help but think that rarity does additionally make something even more poignant and special. Does the law of diminishing returns apply here? Perhaps… but it is the last little difference that can make ALL the difference and it can only really be known through experience. Normally by a privileged few (not always financially privileged!). Having said that, Ultimately, it is ALL subjective.
I can understand what you are saying, but I would argue that MOST of those who buy such instruments do so because they are inspired by them - I am not a great player, but such instruments make me want to play more, get better so you can do it justice.... Yes the cost is prohibitive for many, but when you compare these cost to what a pro cellist would spend, its a bargain...
$15k is not a lot compared to say a $30k Santa Cruz or a $50k Gibson copy of Greeny. It’s a beautiful guitar and sounds incredible. I’m impressed 👍Great builder.
This one is clearly well-appointed even for Turnstone, but why do they *start* at £7,000? That's twice the cost of, say, a standard Lowden, which has similar woods to her starter spec. That's about how much you pay for a pro spec British luthier made guitar, such as a Fylde.
Uhm... you seem to be putting everything down to cost without considering value ... Lowden is in effect a small factory, lovely guitars but 4-12k depending on spec. Single build luthier guitars take about 200+ hours to build +plus costs of expensive woods, workshop space, investment in tools, rates, bills etc... and you have to make a profit on top - it is a business after all... yet many folks seem to thing builders should just do it for fun and give away instruments ;-) Professional grade cello ? 100k...
Lovely demo by Clive, it really brings out the full range of the guitar.

Lucky sod.
That is one very very special instrument. Amazing sound production, thank you to all involved
Outstanding tone

WOW!!! Rosie is some master builder. What a magnificently artistic instrument.
Very pretty tune, highlights the instrument well.

Wonderful... Am so lucky to heave one of Rosie's guitars on order for late 2025 ;-)
Cracking guitar for sure……I’ll make do with my Taylor Academy 12e!
So how did Clive like it?
What is the name of Clive’s piece please?
'The Hermit' written by John Renbourn and can be found on Clive's latest album 'The Abbot'.

I'd say Turnstone are at least in the same league as Fylde. Price seems about right to me.
@@baohuynh9529 Fylde's entry-level models cost just over £3,000 (less than half Turnstone's) and only rose from £2,800 recently.
Sounds like i expect a guitar to sound.
£12,500……wow. Is it gold plated.
A rare opportunity to play an exquisite instrument & you screw the sound recording quality up, peaking & vibrating in the first intro😢
Sounds ok on our equipment here (studio monitors, etc). What exactly are you experiencing?
I didn’t hear any issues and I was listening with headphones.
Sounds ok to me too. No recording issues at all, as far as I can tell.
