    Ah, yes Steve that’s how it starts, “oh, I don’t really need a die cutter/stamp positioner/paper trimmer etc. etc. etc.” but then one day you turn around and there they all are in your art room! 😂😂. Great video. I don’t really do a lot of swatching but.............

    Oh the time this could have saved me haha. I may be interested in picking up a couple of them. I always wished I could use Sade's swatch card template but my printer doesn't have waterproof ink. I won't be redoing all of my swatches anytime soon, but maybe I could find a place on my existing one for the transparency information, etc. line I think I saw by itself :) I also love those palette charts! Thanks for sharing these Steve. I'm sure they'll be a valuable resource for many.

      LOL! I know right?. I though about you when i saw these but then I thought of the monumental task of replacing all those binders pages you had. This might actually make me a decent swatcher. My swatching is all over the place.

    I suggest looking into a small manual die cutting machine that you can get at a big box craft store with a 50% off coupon, like the Prizm or Sidekick. Pay attention to the max die size to be sure it will accommodate what you want to cut. The smaller machines aren’t as versatile and don’t work as well for certain types dies, but they’re much more reasonable and might work great for you. Cynthia

    Hi Steve, I am excited about these new stamps. I am a papercrafter also so I am very familiar with Waffle Flower and all the products. An idea for your small swatch card you like so much is to just get a punch that is that size. You should be able to find them at any of your big box craft stores or on line. I am almost sure there is one that is made specifically for punching ATC cards. If you need help with that give a shout.

    • @mindofwatercolor
      @mindofwatercolor  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, a couple others here recommended that. I may look into it. Or just a smaller die cutter that isn't as expensive. I have to decide first if I really will need to cut out a bunch of these. I want to make the top of the color wheel too and need the die for that.

    • @blueroomcrafts5046
      @blueroomcrafts5046 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are a couple of the papercraft companies that make some smaller versions of die cutters that are not as expensive. If you would like I can email you some links to check out.

    • @mindofwatercolor
      @mindofwatercolor  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure. The more recommendations the better. It would need to be able to accommodate the color wheel too, about 4.5" across.

    I saw your video and immediately ordered the stamp swatching kit as I was in the middle of setting up a swatch sheet for a friend's birthday surprise. Alas, when the kit arrived the swatch sizes were too small to be useful to me. I would emphasize that Waffle Flower stamps are always excellent quality; however, I may not be the only watercolorist who prefers a larger size swatch. I also posted my review on Waffle Flower's U Tube video. Not wanting to be negative, but simply alerting others to my problem.

      Hope you do a video on the color wheel. That was what I was most interested in you doing. Mostly to get your take on it. I hate trying to draw them, very hard to get triangles equal, for me. But I 'm concerned with size of it, if its useful? Pretty small 4x4 prox, can you really evaluate on that scale? Great for markers & gell pens etc, but paint swatches that tiny not sure usefullness. I really want this product too, but everything tot cost $140 prox, if you own die cut machine. The single tag is great & would be wonderful with old fashion punch. Die cutting each square ATC with hole is time consumung. Papercutter & hole punch way faster. A real punch for this one may exist ?? Much faster for multiple cuts. Great video, heard mothing negative from a painter usefullness, so far.

  • @MDCampbell
    @MDCampbell 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Lindsay is right - these are a NEED, not a want! For sure! How great are these? I can see using these for a whole range of products, beyond watercolor. I'd use them for ink charts, colored pencil & watercolor pencil charts, paint charts, marker charts, etc. (you did a bit on that in the video at about 12:05 with Copics). Kudos to you for stepping into the crafting realm to give these a go. And good for Waffle Flower for putting these on the market! I'm overwhelmed by the whole crafting product field, as there is just SO much to explore! I used to do stamping - before the internet - when I wanted to make clip art. It was great, but I lost interest and gave away most of my supplies. These, however, like I said, are so applicable to other uses. Thank you for the solid review and yes, I love both Delft Blue AND that tee shirt! Croooooooooow! Stay well, Steve & Reese! :)

    Thank you so much for sharing these! I've just been making my swatches using micropore tape. I get nice even swatches, but I'm always afraid it will tear my paper one of these days. I just ordered these! I'm hoping they will stamp well on Arches paper, as well. I'm just a baby TH-camr but, I have recommended your channel often. You don't discount "crafters" as many artist's seem to, and I so appreciate all you do! I just discovered watercolors a year ago, and you have been the best teacher! I don't know if you really want a die cutter for these...but if you do I have an gently used Cuttlebug machine I would be happy to send you for free, that would fit all of these dies. The smaller die cutting machine others have recommended won't fit the circle dies for the color wheel that looks the most useful.

      Not sure the color wheel will fit thru the side kick. How wide is the die on the color wheel?

    • @cassiescreations9828
      @cassiescreations9828 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Laura Dains It won't, I don't think.
      I'm sure he will research it. I do not know for sure, Steve, if you read this - BUT I would not have much faith in the rolling pin idea. I have a Sizzix Big Shot and I have used it so much the rollers are a little warped now. Lindsey, The Frugal Crafter, has one of the first Big Shots ever made, I think - it's still going strong, we see her using it in her videos. I am amazed that I am on here at 8 pm on a Saturday night but, in my defense, I am making a mini album and someone responded to the comment and then I saw Lindsey and Val and Denise and just where is Angela Fehr? She might be hiking this weekend in that gorgeous country. Ok, I am done.

    • @lauradains2734
      @lauradains2734 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Skip the rolling pin idea - you betcha! I tried it and fortunately the only die I ruined was one that was easily replaced - I do have a neat imprint of a butterfly on my cutting board though :)
      And yes, I'm sure he will do the research. I'd hoped the side kick would work for me, but most dies and embossing folders are too wide to work with the side kick and the other smaller machines. I'm actually enjoying my WRM Evoloution Advanced - which I picked due to the crazy low price and the fact that it will fold into a storeable piece - and the adjustment dial. I would actually LOVE to have a Big Shot and the good specials on them and their bundles are super. I suffer Big Shot envy :)

    • @ChrissieNicely
      @ChrissieNicely 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am quite sure it won't. That is why I got the Big Shot Foldaway, as I think it's a good medium size and fits up to A5 (European) 6'' width.

    Kneejerk reaction was YES, how convenient... after you get the plate to mount it and indelible ink and... on and on so snapped back to reality. Nice idea, not sure I need it because unless you make a lot of swatches it seems impractical and knowing me, after the first time I'd misplace it and never make more. I'd like one but don't actually need this. Besides, I couldn't find it on Amazon so there's that too. Great review all the same and thanks for the demo, Steve. I had went to pick up the single color swatch card set from watching your grey video...and then saw these others ones on her site and because I love swatching and mixing. On a day I am not feeling creative I just swatch and fall in love with color all over again.. which usually gets me creative again.
    I ended up buying probably all of these without the dies ( I think the die for the swatch card would be handy but I dont have a machine or anything as I am not a a paper crafter or inker I don't understand or know if I can use it without a machine some how????I want a die cut of some sort to make quick artist cards the easy way lol) I also picked up the other smaller big block swatch card for mixes or to list out a mini palette or for blends I like because I always end up creating colors I like or just for doing color combinations I like or for limited palette documentation. I never saw this ( your) video until I looked up for more information from waffle flower on seeing these on demonstrated on youtube even though I thought I had made it through all your videos long ago :) i still re-watch your grey's video I love the warm greys and how they pop off the cool ones. Sigh...

    These are so cool, shoot one more thing now that i have to have. Lol! On the 2 color mixing wouldn’t you put both colors side by side on the small blocks and mix them on the larger block, rather than using thE whole chart and work toward the middle? I suppose it could work wither way. Gosh I’m hooked. This was genius.

      😂

    • @mindofwatercolor
      @mindofwatercolor  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tons of ways they can be used actually. I thought about that for two color mixing but that’s not how she designed that stamp. It’s designed to have a different color at each end then gradually mix them together with an equal mix somewhere in the middle. The two smaller blocks are for two different tints of that color mix. You can use it however though. I used it as a swatch chart for one of my palettes.

  • @LanaGoesArt
    @LanaGoesArt 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Perfect combination of crafts and arts - so usefull! The single color chart may be the one for me. I'm hesitant about making those swatches with my palettes, because they are so many. This might be the solution.

    Ahhh how nice someone just saved me from the stress of drawing straight lines with a ruler over and over and over. Hate that and I still don’t get it right. I am going to love these! Swatching has helped force me to LEARN my colours, not just go with my gut. It was tedious at first, but now I use swatching for playtime, have fun and become more familiar with what my colours can do. Win win. Than’s Steve you are always enjoyable.

    Hi Steve, Great vid. A note about die cutting machines. If you only think you're interested in the ATC or 2x2 size you might consider a Sizzix Sidekick which cuts up to a 2.5"w x 6"l die. Altenew (another stamp co) mini die machine cuts up to 3.5" wide. These mini machines are slightly less expensive than the standard card or scrapbookers machines.Another thought would be to haunt your local Tuesday Morning for a good buy - or use a 60% off coupon on one - Michael's (I believe JoAnn & Moore's doesn't allow coupons on the machines)

    Watching you and The Frugal Crafter this week you both reviewed Waffle Flowers new color wheel and swatching sets. This convinced me not only to buy the stamp sets, but to get the die cuts and buy a die cut machine... Just to use with these great color swatching sets Waffle Flower created! Now I'm off to watch TH-cam reviews of die cutting machines, because I have NO IDEA what to look for!!

    Seems like a good idea, but I think it is a little small for see the color especially if your vision is not too good. Also, I need to swatch and go seems a little time consuming. But, good idea.

    • @mindofwatercolor
      @mindofwatercolor  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are a tad small. I think she's designed them for crafters/artists with tons of colors so that a lot will fit on a letter sized sheet. The 2-color mixing stamp actually makes a nice swatch for me. Bigger with blanks for two tints.

    As for the Die cutting machine, if you decide you are only going to cut the ATC card Die then you can buy a mini Die cutting machine. Sizzix with TimHoltz has the Sizzix sidekick, there is also one made by Altenew that would be suitable. There are others but just can’t remember who! As for full size machines, Sizzix, Spellbinders, and Cricut all make good quality ones, and if you fancy an electronic cutter, the Gemini Jnr. by Crafters Companion is your best bet.
    I’m only just starting my artistic journey with watercolour and coloured pencils so swatching is giving me great practice with the mediums but hadn’t really hit on a format that I liked, so Waffle flower doing this is fantastic, I really like the colour wheel set, as I’m spending a lot of time working on creating great mixes and colour wheels are my constant companions!
    Love the vids

    • @mindofwatercolor
      @mindofwatercolor  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, someone else recommended that one. May be the best idea. I want to make the top to that color wheel too so the die is needed for that. I saw a video somewhere that a rolling pin could be used instead of a die cutter but I don't know how effective that is.

    • @bobbinsew
      @bobbinsew 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Mind of Watercolor a rolling pin? Novel at least! It may be that working on a cutting mat, a simple Die through thin paper could cut with a rolling pin but I doubt very much that you would get the colour wheel Die through watercolour paper. Can’t believe I’m saying this but I’ve got to try it! I’ve got 5 manual cutters from mini to mighty plus two computer controlled cutting machines and I’m off to find the rolling pin......... 🤣

    Hey Mind! This comment is not relevant to u'r review of the stamps :)
    I'm on the hunt for a brush, hoping you can help.
    I know u did a video of the Silver black velvet watercolour brush series, but I didn't found it at the moment. After that, bought a jumbo Silver Black Velvet from the US and shiped it to Sweden and I love it! Holds alot of water and its rigidity is perfect for me. The problem is that the shipment cost to Sweden is for me to friggin hard.
    Sorry, now to my question : Do you know any other semi synthetic/synthetic brush that compares to SBV?

    • @mindofwatercolor
      @mindofwatercolor  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, I know of another Silver Brush that is part synthetic, the Golden Naturals. But you'll probably have the same issue with shipping. I have no ideas about ones that would be reasonably available to you. Lots of great all synthetics out there so you can look into more of those. I use and love Princeton Neptunes and Elites.
