    The best Quicksilver story I ever read was from back when he was on the 90's X-Factor team and everyone had to talk to a therapist. It explained so well why he is the way he is. You know how it gets frustrating when you're standing in line and the person in front of you is really slow and taking too much time?
    That's Quicksilver's entire life.

    So, about the whole "regular people in the Marvel universe who hate mutants but tolerate or even love other super powered beings" thing, I once read this comic book a shit-ton of years ago that kinda explained it (or at least tried to): essentially, because the number of mutants kept growing more and more, lots of regular humans started freaking out at the thought that mutants would eventually replace homo sapiens as the "main" human breed. Other super powered characters don't present such a "threat" to mankind, because most of them are the result of unique and/or extraordinary circumstances, so the same humans that are afraid of mutants don't give a crap about those guys.

      How would the average person in the Marvel universe know how Spider-Man got his powers? Or even Iron Man; Tony could be a mutant machinesmith for all they know.
      I read an interesting alternative idea from Stan Lee (so take it with a grain of salt). People are okay with heroes like Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America because they’re basically like them in appearance. The first X-Men looked very different from humans (a cyclops, a man made of ice, a guy with huge hands and feet, a guy with wings, and a ginger, yes that’s a joke) so people didn’t like them just based on what they looked like. The idea is bolstered by the notion that mutants were stand-ins for the civil rights movement and racial prejudice.

    One of the random things about Aimi Yoshida is that her voice actor is Jamie Chung, who went in to voice another character somewhat connected to Sunfire again with Go-Go with Big Hero 6, and an actual X-Men character with Blink in the short lived series, The Gifted.
    The thing with mutants being hated is that they're common place, and humans interact with them way more than any other type of people.
    Pixie was relatively new when the game came out (Since this was based in the 2009 era X-Men stories like "Manifest Destiny"), she was apart of a group of new X-Men that... Never really took an off, but they are still around today.

      I still find it pretty hilarious that the big secret that everyone seems to be hiding from the general public is that since the Celestials fucked around with the human genome in such a way that they created pretty much ALL of what would later come to be known as metahumans, "Mutants" are literally just everyday humans that had their powers trigger "naturally", while all the other random metahumans instead had their powers triggered by some external influence that caused their genome to react.
      So there really is only the smallest difference between someone like Spider Man and a mutant. The big outliers of course being people that got their powers from entirely external sources like Star Brand.
      I mean, imagine what all the mutant hating groups would do if they found out that humans essentially are mutants, just that most people have the mutant power of being average Joe.

    I like how Matt talks about how he had no context for Cable's "Wild Man of Borneo" moment in the 90's cartoon, when... the actual cartoon doesn't offer any context either. He shows up, shoots some things, and disappears. The character was brand new when the episode was written and him being Cyclops' son and a time traveler hadn't been revealed yet, so the show just made up an original plot for him, then hastily retconned that once he became a time-traveler.

      Reminds me about that time in Spider-Man TAS where Peter started mutating further, so he went to the X-Men to get help, only to get upset when Professor X told him that he wasn't "curing" mutants, he was helping them accept being mutants. He then proceeded to rather OOCly fly off the handle, complaining that he didn't want to be a freak, and tantrum quit out of the window, which never sat with me right even back when I first saw that arc, especially since it never... well... explained to me why the universe both behaved like Spidey was a mutant and like he wasn't and ???

    My first playthrough of this game was as Aimi with the shadow powers. I did a second playthrough As Adrian with the energy powers going on a Brotherhood run. But the development of going from anti-mutant to mutant extremist didn't flow naturally enough.

      It's kinda dumb because Cyclops never became a real villain, but they sure acted like he did for like 5ish years in the comics until he returned again. Him and his team became like revolutionaries that fought the government (who were putting mutants in concentration camps) after he accidentally killed Professor X while he was possessed by the Phoenix Force. Later he dies destroying one of the Inhumans' fart clouds (which were toxic to mutants) and everyone, including all his friends, treated him like he was Hitler for doing this. • @blackmanwithcomputer

      It's cuz mutants are seen as a threat to human existence, because they occur naturally. Also because they're a ticking time bomb; the moment the they hit puberty, their powers activate and can cause a lot of damage, depending on the ability.
      There was one mutant whose ability was to destroy all organic life in a town-sized radius. Wiped out thousands by accident.

    So you'd like to know why in the world of superheroes so many people hate mutants? Well, it's pretty simple actualy. Thor is a god, Captain America got his powers from a serum, Iron Man has an advanced armor, Hawkeye and Black Widow are regural humans... But mutants are different. Their powers are a natural step in human evolution, they do not come from an accident, divine intervention, magic or some artifact. While the other heroes are mixed with the human populations mutants are there to replace it.

    Matt hits the nail on the head on why I don’t like the xmen being in the same universe as the rest of marvel. Xmen only works if it’s a world where only xmen have powers and so everyone’s afraid of that. If they’re just a sub group of the powered if makes no sense that everyone is prejudiced against them. I mean you can stretch it and say “oh it’s the random nature of mutants that makes people scared” but that’s nonsense

    • @jeremyroberts8822
      @jeremyroberts8822 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You know I’d never thought of it like that but you’re right it doesn’t really make sense that in this world the public loves and praises guys like Spider-Man who has powers but then hates this other sub group of people with powers just cus they are classified as mutants. Only thing I can think of is that because mutants are technically a more evolved form of humans maybe that makes the regular people with no powers scared that eventually they will be outnumbered and wiped out by the people with powers.

    • @tuffemily1431
      @tuffemily1431 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its more the fact feel that Mutants will replace humanity that isn't really there with the other heroes. Like Mutants having kids can lead to more Mutants and so on and so on but spider-man got bitten by one spider that isn't easy to reproduce. So he doesn't really represent any kind of supposed threat to humanity that way

      In general, aren't the mutants in marvel pretty significantly more powerful than other powered beings? I mean phoenix is an enormous threat even outside of the xmen comics. Xavier has the power to control minds on a global scale. Magneto (in some comics, idk the issues) can affect the gravitational pull of the earth itself. Scarlet witch can alter reality. Storm is literally introduced as a goddess capable of creating storms across the planet.
      Sure, most of the X-Men aren't that powerful, but enough of them are that it makes sense to fear them over other powered beings.

    I did like this game when I was younger. Actually played it multiple times. Even bought, played, and finished the DS version. Still, in hindsight I am pretty disappointed with what the game turned out to be after finding out what it could have been. I didn't have the same standards I do now and there was so much more it could/should have done with the character customizations and gameplay/story choices. Hopefully the new Wolverine game coming out will signal a do-over sometime in the future.
