Can confirm there was at least one because I’m that one. I was 13 in 1994 and from basically as long as I could remember until 94 I was a HUGE fan of G.I. Joe, the 94 toys absolutely killed my love for the line up for a few years. Even as a kid I thought everything about the 94 stuff (especially Star Brigade) just reeked of desperation and “Look at us, we’re still relevant!” frankly it was embarrassing.
Hasbro,taking the piss, is putting it lightly. Star Brigade was the killer for me. It was a thoughtless and despirate attempt to revive a dying toy line. You took another for the team!!

Trying to use this figure to beat Star Wars is like trying to win a demolition derby in a Volkswagon Beetle...after you replaced the engine with a flaky lawnmower engine and the body panels with cardboard. The designers seem to have a couple decent ideas for alien anatomy, but the yellow color, weird veins, broccoli-scrotum head, punny name, and TERROR TAIL-FIST put this at odds with the much more natural feel most Star Wars aliens have.

Look at the figure and look closely.... around the genitals area (he has no pants and no underwear, so it's easy to see) It's all veiny down there with a backwards really long penis looking tail thing (it's more of a penis cause of the veins) coming out from behind with a FIST at the end of it. Granted, wearing pants / underwear for him would be tough.

Star Wars was super popular, there's no denying that. But when G.I. Joe came out, they were just so much better than Star Wars figures. They could move more. The sculpts were more detailed. They had more accessories. Star Wars had the support of the movies. G.I. Joe had quality.
@@HCC788 I have to agree. By the time GI Joe came out Kenner was pushing ROTJ figures, Power of the Force coin figures, and Droids and Ewoks cartoon figures. Fisher Price Adventure People built off of Hasbro Adventure Team type missions in a smaller scale. Star Wars built off of the scale and articulation of Adventure People, then Hasbro GI Joe created an action figure in scale to SW, but had 12" action figure articulation. Pure genius. HCC, you da' man, I just know da' man!
I remember when I got this figure and the other 2 aliens you called them power ranger villains. I'm not gonna lie and say that they don't have some cool designs and some firsts for the line such as 4 arms for one of the figures, but I agree with everyone else these guys didn't belong in gi joe. In fact in my display I have them hidden in my crusader shuttle because of how out there they are and how badly they don't fit in the rest of the line. Definitely one of the final nails in the coffin of the line. Great review by the way.

History repeated itself for Hasbro. Just like it happened here, the original 12" line also devolved from a fair depiction of military into superheroes, cyborgs and alien invaders when it was at its end.
I had checked out of Gi Joe around '92 & never heard of this... guy? I want to thank you for bringing this guy to my attention. This figure looks stupid... but then it grows on you & as you point out its atrocities... i grow to love it more. I am currently trying to purchase it on eBay. How much did you pay for yours? Is $25 too much? I could probably get Leatherneck... but then I wouldn't have a Lobotomaxx 🤔

Oh well..... at least the kids have new scenarios to play with other than having to fight cobra all the time. On the bright side if its gross and nauseating then Hasbro technically did its job with detail and making it look like a villain! hahahahahaahahahaha. I think star brigade would have been great as a stand-alone scifi line though. Putting it with GI JOE really didnt do it for a lot of ppl. I would prob get some like predacon (looks ok on card, i'll check the figure later) but not for GI JOE.

That and the fact that my first gi joe vehicle was a cobra fang which I loved so much that I drilled holes in the back of my star wars figures so they'd fit in the fang's seat 🤣 good times 🤔

You bring up an interesting point. If that exact same figure was part of another toy line....it would actually be a pretty cool alien toy. I would have loved to have had an alien toy like that when I was a kid. But you are right....it didn't need to be in the g.i. Joe toy line. It just doesn't fit and within the g.i joe context it's pretty ridiculous and corny looking. Has bro should have just created an alien toy line that was complete new and seperate from any pre-existing toy line. If they could think of a cool enough premise and overall design, it really might have worked.
They could have, and it might have worked. But they didn't, because they had a big seller in G.I. Joe, they already had the retail shelf space for it, so *everything* gets to be in G.I. Joe! That's how Street Fighter 2 ended up with a G.I. Joe logo.
That's why I felt this review was unfair. The Lunartix are good alien figures, it's unfortunate that many fans think they don't really fit into GI Joe. It's odd how the Transformers are accepted as existing in the same world, considering that they are giant alien shape changing mechanical life forms. The GI Joe cartoon and movie had even crazier concepts like demons, ancient mutants, ghosts, time travel, and alternate dimensions...but aliens are too far fetched?! This toy should be judged on its own merits, not on what one expects it to be.

The box art does actually make the alien look cool, but the figure itself... ugh!!! There is only one thing to do with this and the other aliens... They didn't exactly cancel it, they changed it to GI Joe Extreme. When that cartoon ended, they brought the old figures back as a collectors line in 1998.
I did not see this figure until a year or two after GIJoe was canceled, at Kay-Bees. At the time, I heard Hasbro canceled the line, but had tons of unshipped figures and sent them to Kay-Bees.
I think Predacon was the best out of the three Lunartix aliens with Lobotomaxx & Carcus tied for last place. Carcus was more like a G.I. Joe figure but with "bendy" arms, and Lobotomaxx legs and barely bendy neck didn't do him any favors. There were some cooler Lunartix aliens coming down the pipe in 95, so it sucks we didn't get them.
let's be clear. Hasbro knew they put a set of nuts on the figures head. then the entire line gets canceled. That is just crazy. And they wanted to compete with Star Wars? I was 9 and back when the 94 figures were released, and the last figure I bought was sadly Ice Cream soldier. I gave up on the line with all the star brigade and aliens and weird space stuff. Eco warriors I had but that was still pushing it, or packaging dolphins and whales with figures.
"An insult to children everywhere " too funny. I remember seeing these at Toys R Us my senior year of high school and was constantly pounding my head up against the shelf asking why why why. Now as a completist for GI Joe I keep asking myself why why why didn't I spend $3.99 compared to the eBay prices now anywhere from $70 up to a $150 for mint on card.
I saw this figure in 1995 or 1996, after I graduated from high school, at Kay-Bees, with its friends. Never seen them at Target, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, & Shop-Ko. But I did saw tons of Ice Cream Soldier.....
Ugh! Star Brigade. The Power Fighters did get released the same year as the Lunartix Aliens and are not that bad as far as Mech suits go in 1994. The Manimals showed up a few years later at KB Toys in 2000. Lobatomax and his fellow Lunartix aliens did appear in a Devils Due two issue GI Joe vs Transformers comic Dark Horizon. They were quickly devoured by Unicron and enslaved inside the giant transformer. Hasbro jumped on the bandwagon a year earlier when Kenner released the Jurassic Park line so Hasbro in there infinite wisdom created a set exclusive to Toys R Us called the GI Joe Dino Hunters. I double dog dare you to review that one ;)
I don't know... I'm trying to find a way to exclude Dino Hunters from the scope of my review project, but I don't think I can exclude it. It technically is a vintage G.I. Joe item, so I should review it. That one is going to be painful.
I don't think the addition of alien figures to the GI Joe line would have been to bad if they were a bit more modest in the typical Greys fashion for Area 51/ Roswell/Battle of Los Angeles play scenarios which are fantastical but relatively plausible and supposedly based on real life incidents. They could have expanded this with saucer playsets, retrival crews and equipment/ vehicles and maybe even some MIBs or secret base playsets. This would have complimented the Defiant playset nicely as it didn't really have anything to fight against (Cobra never had a space programme) but Star brigade was a step too far and never really seemed to fit in and seemed like a different toyline altogether. Occasionally I would incorporate Aliens into my play scenarios in a first ccontact/ close encounters type way but would use figures from the star wars line such as Amanaman or the Wompa as they had more of a proper ET feel to them in my opinion
Wow I had taken many things GI Joe could throw at me even as late as the 1994 Gung Ho but the space and alien themed stuff went so far beyond stupid its not fathomable. Thanks for the great review we need a badass figure next how about a 1990 SAW Viper? Hey its got a great Cobra paint scheme and the BIGGEST gun any figure ever had!
Great also a funny skit might evolve from the SAW Viper as by the filecard hes the only known GI Joe or Cobra thats a dedicated Flea killer! So lets cheer him on using that absurdly oversized rifle to kill some fleas at 800 yards out! You keep the fun stuff rolling!
I was off GIJoe by 1987 so I never saw these. Honestly, I would have welcomed a new bad guy. Cobra was fine, but two or three brand correct alien figures would have fit nicely into my imaginary world of madness. A few nutty aliens show up in 1986 and GIJoe doesn’t get that call? They should have put aliens out instead of Cobra-La; Hasbro might have had me another year.

hasbro pretty much killed the gi joe line in the 90s I only own 1 90s figure its dodger version 2 and the only reason i got it is because i got him at the thrift store for pretty cheap 2 me cobra la started the fall of gi joe it kept gettin worser from there it finally just died in 1994 as it shouldve it needed 2 be rebooted sgt savage was awesome idk why it didn’t do good the very 1st gi joe movie was in 1945 durin ww2
ok... I never saw this before. even as a mindbender creature, it s not cool to fight against. I even had an issue with the big guns, way too big for the size of the figures. as a different line up, it mores than match most figures though. space invader type of line up could have been great. as gi joe fan, I m happy that we never got to see their ship-vehicles s design, lol.

Do you feel the same way about all of the Star Brigade? I actually like some of the Star Brigade figures. Just not as spacemen. You should review the Star Brigade Cobra Commander. Besides his weird suction cup thingy, he's a pretty decent figure.
they are rather difficult to find, but there were G.I. Joe manAnimals action figures. If you poke around on eBay. You'll see Them. I'm probably spelling the name wrong. I know other people have mentioned them and I've seen them before. Unfortunately, they're pretty obscure. I've probably got one and don't realize it . My initial reaction is, why didn't they make him greenlight his file card. It would've looked like so much of a better figure

These are more reminiscent of the Micronaut monsters than anything else. As inhabitants of the GI Joe universe, they sucked.

I was 9 and back when the 94 figures were released, and the last figure I bought was sadly Ice Cream soldier. I gave up on the line with all the star brigade and aliens and weird space stuff. Eco warriors I had but that was still pushing it, or packaging dolphins and whales with figures.
I haven't gotten to the dolphins and whales yet, so don't spoil it for me. Well, I do have the Killer W.H.A.L.E., and I really like that!
"An insult to children everywhere " too funny. I remember seeing these at Toys R Us my senior year of high school and was constantly pounding my head up against the shelf asking why why why. Now as a completist for GI Joe I keep asking myself why why why didn't I spend $3.99 compared to the eBay prices now anywhere from $70 up to a $150 for mint on card.
I saw this figure in 1995 or 1996, after I graduated from high school, at Kay-Bees, with its friends. Never seen them at Target, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, & Shop-Ko. But I did saw tons of Ice Cream Soldier.....

Ugh! Star Brigade. The Power Fighters did get released the same year as the Lunartix Aliens and are not that bad as far as Mech suits go in 1994. The Manimals showed up a few years later at KB Toys in 2000. Lobatomax and his fellow Lunartix aliens did appear in a Devils Due two issue GI Joe vs Transformers comic Dark Horizon. They were quickly devoured by Unicron and enslaved inside the giant transformer. Hasbro jumped on the bandwagon a year earlier when Kenner released the Jurassic Park line so Hasbro in there infinite wisdom created a set exclusive to Toys R Us called the GI Joe Dino Hunters. I double dog dare you to review that one ;)

I don't know... I'm trying to find a way to exclude Dino Hunters from the scope of my review project, but I don't think I can exclude it. It technically is a vintage G.I. Joe item, so I should review it. That one is going to be painful.

The best part of the video is that KMFDM shirt. Nothing like that Ultra Heavy Beat to numb the pain from such a terrible toy.
I don't think the addition of alien figures to the GI Joe line would have been to bad if they were a bit more modest in the typical Greys fashion for Area 51/ Roswell/Battle of Los Angeles play scenarios which are fantastical but relatively plausible and supposedly based on real life incidents. They could have expanded this with saucer playsets, retrival crews and equipment/ vehicles and maybe even some MIBs or secret base playsets. This would have complimented the Defiant playset nicely as it didn't really have anything to fight against (Cobra never had a space programme) but Star brigade was a step too far and never really seemed to fit in and seemed like a different toyline altogether. Occasionally I would incorporate Aliens into my play scenarios in a first ccontact/ close encounters type way but would use figures from the star wars line such as Amanaman or the Wompa as they had more of a proper ET feel to them in my opinion

When I first saw these guys on the pegs back when they were the current toys, I thought COBRA-LA called out to alien races for help.

Wow I had taken many things GI Joe could throw at me even as late as the 1994 Gung Ho but the space and alien themed stuff went so far beyond stupid its not fathomable. Thanks for the great review we need a badass figure next how about a 1990 SAW Viper? Hey its got a great Cobra paint scheme and the BIGGEST gun any figure ever had!
I'll get to SAW Viper by and by, but this coming weekend is the first weekend of the month, so we get a vehicle!
Great also a funny skit might evolve from the SAW Viper as by the filecard hes the only known GI Joe or Cobra thats a dedicated Flea killer! So lets cheer him on using that absurdly oversized rifle to kill some fleas at 800 yards out! You keep the fun stuff rolling!

I was off GIJoe by 1987 so I never saw these. Honestly, I would have welcomed a new bad guy. Cobra was fine, but two or three brand correct alien figures would have fit nicely into my imaginary world of madness. A few nutty aliens show up in 1986 and GIJoe doesn’t get that call? They should have put aliens out instead of Cobra-La; Hasbro might have had me another year.

hasbro pretty much killed the gi joe line in the 90s I only own 1 90s figure its dodger version 2 and the only reason i got it is because i got him at the thrift store for pretty cheap 2 me cobra la started the fall of gi joe it kept gettin worser from there it finally just died in 1994 as it shouldve it needed 2 be rebooted sgt savage was awesome idk why it didn’t do good the very 1st gi joe movie was in 1945 durin ww2

I even had an issue with the big guns, way too big for the size of the figures.
as a different line up, it mores than match most figures though.
space invader type of line up could have been great.

okay, i had to analyze this again and take a different look as to why HCC788 did this review. He still hasn't recovered from that horrible weed trimmer attack last week when he did pathfinder, he may have been lobotomized just a bit. I wish you a speedy recovery.

Do you feel the same way about all of the Star Brigade? I actually like some of the Star Brigade figures. Just not as spacemen. You should review the Star Brigade Cobra Commander. Besides his weird suction cup thingy, he's a pretty decent figure.
It will take a while to get through the rest of Star Brigade, so we'll see if any of it gets a higher rating. I'll eventually get to all of it!

they are rather difficult to find, but there were G.I. Joe manAnimals action figures. If you poke around on eBay. You'll see Them. I'm probably spelling the name wrong. I know other people have mentioned them and I've seen them before. Unfortunately, they're pretty obscure. I've probably got one and don't realize it . My initial reaction is, why didn't they make him greenlight his file card. It would've looked like so much of a better figure
