I'm going through my preop phase for conversion surgery. It's been 6 years since my vsg preop time. It's been rough...but I'm really loving your nuggets of wisdom about hunger and getting through. 😊

I'm going to be starting the pre-op diet, and all I'm going to be allowed to drink is Glucerna shakes, 5 times a day. I'm so confused why some people get to eat actual food. I have to drink only 5 shakes a day for 28 days before surgery Dec. 21.

Some surgery centers have all liquid requirements. Mexico Bariatric Center had me do a very strict pre-op diet of solid foods for 2 months, and 3 days of liquid before surgery day. It depends on the surgeons and what they require.

During pre-op it isn't required, but I wanted to practice because its important post-op. After surgery, you have limited space in your new tiny tummy and if you drink too soon before eating, you won't have enough space for food/nutrients. If you drink too soon after eating, you could wash the food through your system too quickly which not only affects your ability to absorb proper nutrients, but it can also make you feel really sick.
