Description - This film is a series of outtakes and rehearsals showing, Dr. Condon, Principal of New York City Public School 12, instructing eighth grade boys in the art of stick fencing in preparation for filming a Fox Movietone News Story. The news story showed Dr Condon teaching both stick fencing and boxing, however this film is compilation of the outtakes for the stick fencing part. The first series of outtakes have sound and the last series of outtakes have no sound.
Looking at Dr Condon he seems to be a man at least in his late 50’s if not in 60’s which then suggests that he was born in 1870 or earlier. There is no information on the stick -fencing exercises that he is teaching and where they are derived from or from whom he learned them from. They may be a set of simplified stick exercises devised for teaching in schools as part of the physical education system.
