I have to admit it that I have been all my life in love with Suzanne Vega. Not the typical beauty, her eyes, her voice, her elegance in music and life... all in her makes me love her.
I always get goosebumps at this line: "And she says, I've come to set a twisted thing straight. And she says I've come to lighten this dark heart." Because I know this Lady. That's why her palm is split with a flower and a flame. She kind of brings you joy, too. But don't forget she's severe. She can kill you. It's a very dangerous relationship...
exquisite. I woman i used to like told me ages back to listen to this song. It has always been with me since. It cuts deep, haunting and beautiful. I feel it's a great take on holding back and fear, and the whole construct of that; it is for me. I love this live version with the guitar, great atmosphere.
Suzanne Vega's music, a brilliant mix of poetry and social activism defined her as an artist, resulting in a select fan base which took her message seriously. Her views of society and the human condition gave rise to a newer and more defined perception of life's struggles, individually and collectively.
Simply brilliant my dear friend Suzanne is a very tough little girl on this one love it many times in Costa Mesa California merry Christmas let’s put 2020 behind us thank you again

BIG RESPECT SUZANNE VEGA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BIG THANK YOU SUZANNE VEGA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PEACE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT'S VERY COOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I remember a friend had this cassette in his car in the 80s. I recalled the song as I needed solitude to reconnect with myself. Sound advice to me is from a female tho more often that not I don't understand the advice given and it ends up being Tough Love
God, I love this stuff. I love this fine musical stuff.God,you must love me.You create beautiful music like this.I am a poor creature, better than a flea, or a sparrow-actually, a human. This music fills me with monumental joy. This music is unstoppable.
After enjoying ‘Small Blue Thing’, hit me with the most beautiful songs you can think of. It doesn’t matter where you find their beauty; in sadness or in joy, whether it pours from the music, is enshrined in effective wordplay, or it’s simply the image that either conjures up in your mind which is most beautiful of all (thinking of Leonard Cohen’s “the sun pours down like honey” line, from ‘Suzanne’, funnily enough; you’d be hard-pressed, though, to find better than
This is a mature artist: Great and very unique voice, interesting, powerfully image-laden lyrics. When I see all of today's hyped, visually drive, vacuous pop drivel, American Idol wannabes, and then compare them to quality music like this - well, lets just say it's the difference between art and adolescent noise.
I love this song, but this version suffers from the absence of those cold, ethereal keyboards that really got the sense of loneliness across in the original version.
Agreed. The rhythm section on this version is especially tight. Don't quote me, but I believe it's Mike Visceglia om bass and Jay Bellerose on drums. Not sure of the guitarist.
The keyboard is missing and the guitar is playing that part instead ( which sounds great), so it makes it sound different. Also, the sound is live, not an MTV video. So, just sounds different but not better. :)
Looks/sounds like bits of C Maj 7(add 9) - playing frets 8 on high e string then b string - then change the first note you picked to fret 7, whilst keeping the b string fretted on 8... but it sounds like a d note is droning just above that - that might be triggered by a loop...
I like the guitar work on this to make up for the lack of keyboards, which i've thought yo be key for this song. I was wondering if this clip is from a DVD, given the multiple angle shots.
No really sure if this is still of interest to you - if so, the gig was a live set at the Montreaux Jazz Festival, and you can find at YT at least Left of center from that set (a brilliant voice-bass version, by the way) - and maybe yet some more songs. Give it a try.
Song, singing and instrument players - great; camera and cut - dull and bothering. How easy filming technique can spoil a truly artistic experience... If I see one more close-up at Suzanne's face with camera moving upwards, I am going to smack the director's head by latex goose - no empty threat! Plus, Fun fact of the day: making two cuts more distant from each other than 2 seconds can actually make the viewer feel comfortable!

Wow! Brilliant Live version. So Strong! Suzanne Delivers with power. The Band Kicks. Awesome!

All elements of killer hypnotizing groove. I've always loved this song
wow, super rocking version! This guitar player is sick. Whole band is great.
Always a very compelling artist live and I've enjoyed so many of her shows, a truly gifted artist and songwriter...
Savage performance!!! Great musicianship all around!
No other musician can quite set my mind in the soft perfect mood that Suzanne Vega creates with her guitar and voice.
she sounds so good with this band, the music just melts
what an absolutely outstanding bass line - amazing :D

One of the best songs not enough people know about.
I wish would had get chance to see her live
I love this song, but this version suffers from the absence of those cold, ethereal keyboards that really got the sense of loneliness across in the original version.

Un très grand talent.......:-)
Saya senang dan ingin sekali hadir di sana menyaksikan dan mendengarkan langsung dia bernyanyi.

This is better then the original! Yaaaaay!

Thanks a lot , gonna try that !

ANTON SANKO ORIGINAL SYNTH PLAYER NAILED THE EMOTIONS EXPRESSED.
Hayden Wittig I also felt the chorus was a bit dull played this way.
This is from the Montreux DVD
jiminy911, you said it. Amen, amen.
FInally - a haricut I like!
Hi, is there any more songs from this gig? and when and where was it??

Doug Yowell on drums, maybe Gerry Leonard on guitar.
Who is in this band? Those guys are real players.
@hemmojito The very definition of solitude (different to loneliness), aye ?
wow Doug Yowell good player
Nadeem sharvan copied this tune very cleverly ........ in the song Pehli baar dekha from the movie Saajan.
When was this live performance done?
I think when she sings live, she goes too fast....but this is one of my favourite songs by her :P so I'll let it slide.
She is killing me :(
Could also be Thad Debrock on guitar.
90s era great music. these days its lil wayne and pants around your ass music.
nabilah turun bwh sat

Why don't they show the guitarist's face? This is absurd!
Nobody noticed???
Drummers make it look soooo easy :/
Awesome lyrics and music......great artist with a weird surname
