I saw this exact lineup in Detroit. Daryl allowed me to video tape the entire show, if it was not uploaded to the internet. Thank you, Mr. Stuermer. As promised, it’s not on the TH-cam. Hi Leslie!
Stuermer has been like quietly at the cutting edge for so long. I heard him as a child with Jean Luc Ponty, later with Genisis. He's always exciting to watch cos he doesn't play catch up to anyone...unique player, unique writer. Good to see this video.
Eddie - probably saw him on the same tour in Tempe. Was sitting at a cocktail table right next to him. Amazing! They did the complete Imaginary Voyage Suite.
The strident tone the Strat makes, Daryl's perfect phrasing & complete knowledge of the fretboard combines to craft one amazing, free, urgent tune. For those in the know, this man brings it, melody upon melody. I never tire of DS' ability. Not to discourage anyone, but kids, this is what God-given talent & thirty thousand hours sounds like.
Absolutely right! I've been a fan of Daryl for decades. I love this feel, his phrasing, his total knowledge, his wonderful tone. He's got it all down. Superb player.
To those who have only seen Daryl back up Genesis or Phil's solo work, THIS is what he's all about !!! Combining tasty melodies with flawless technique, Daryl's brand of jazz-rock fusion surpasses anything he's done as a support player ! I strongly recommend buying Daryl's cd's and giving a good listen to this incredibly talented, yet often over-looked guitar genius... Dan.
Daryl had a good, fun music store on Hwy100 (108th Street in West Allis, Wisconsin) a long time before this. Also, he used to entertain at Krueger & Co. Christmas parties; the best Christmas parties ever, I still think (yeah Tuna? [on the Harris/Cotrell 825 !) My brother had to drive me home that night you know. That's how good a Christmas party that was!
It was Sweetbottom, not Sweetwater, sorry to be a nitpicker but it's good to get the name right. I use to follow them back in the day, although it was right after Daryl left and Martin Appel took his spot on guitar, they were still amazing.
Great tune, very unique hook. I feel you have always been a bit of an iconoclast as "The Lead Guitarist", beautiful statements & execution. I have enjoyed your work, sir. Having heard you first with Jean Luc Ponty and then following your body of work. Finally moving back to Milwaukee and honoring your friends in Sweetwater. Thank you sir, for your good character and all the times you've compelled me to drive fast. Best wishes & regards, frank@sikpik.com

@ysbnnews Why Zappa? Did he ever played with him? I read he did it with Ponty back in the days.
He was introduced to JL Ponty by George Duke and Duke and Ponty were playing with Zappa, but I don’t think he also played with FZ.

Daryl Stuermer and Jan Hammer ?
WITH JLP AND FZ, WHAT ELSE IS THERE...
