What is going on my mates, hope your Sunday is going very well. Today we'll be talking about a band called Joyce Manor from Torrance, CA.
Joyce Manor is a rock band, but more specifically toy with the genres, punk, pop punk, emo, and a wee lil indie. Barry Johnson and friends have been going hard at this project for 12 years now and they don't seem to have any plans to slow down.
In the 10+ years that Joyce Manor has been a band, they've released 5 full-lengths: Joyce Manor S/T, Of All Things I Will Soon Grow Tired, Never Hungover Again, Cody, and Million Dollars to kill me.
As long as they're around, I'll be there to support.

Tbh, Of All Things is my favorite album of the band. Idk, it just has a special place in my heart
When they played for the first time in Mexico, they played at a small venue that had a tiny food stand, so before the show started the guys where just eating and hanging out with everyone like we were all friends. They're the sweetest people and the show was amazing, I love them so much

I discovered Joyce manor about one year ago after my high school graduation the first song I listened to was derailed and I was instantly hooked Joyce manor. It came on my pop punks not dead playlist on Spotify

@@RobinBonhomme perfectly reasonable imo. they recognize that there’s a certain point where crowd surfing gets out of hand and ruins the experience for the people not crowdsurfing, and I really respect them for it. don’t think it’s fair to question their “punk cred” or whatever for looking out for their fans’ safety 🤷🏼

What I feel is cool about Joyce Manor is that when they're at their worst I still feel something special and different from them despite not necessarily loving every song.

Of All Things I Will Soon Grow Tired is fucking amazing and my favorite album ever and I’m sad that you don’t like it. I think the experiments pan out perfectly and create this weird, addictive, depressive state. Violent Inside, Comfortable Clothes, If I Needed You There, See How Tame I Can Be and their Video Killed The Radio Star cover are some of the most unique punk songs I’ve ever heard.

i have a theory, i listen to a lot of their albums all the way through a lot of the time and the transition between “these kind of ice skates” and “comfortable clothes” is a bit ear piercing but i can’t think of anything else

Hey man dope video! I personally love their second record. It’s fast and heavy, like their first. And it’s super catchy with tracks like Bride Of Usher, or Violent Inside. It definitely laid out the ground work for NHA. Plus video killed the radio star cover is killerrrr

I saw JM for the first time last summer in NYC. The room never stopped moving and they played a full set before coming back on to play an encore where they played 2 more songs. Afterwards they realized they still had 15 minutes before they had to stop playing so they kept playing whatever the audience wanted to hear until they had to leave.

Easily one of the best live bands, they have so much energy. I’ve seen them like 5 times and have never been disappointed. First time I saw them was with mobo too, that was an amazing night lol

I remember when Joyce Manor released Million Dollars to kill me, it was the same day The Story So Far released Proper Dose. You can probably tell which one was the better album. Still, an awesome video!

I remember going to pick them both up from the store on the same day, good times. Proper Dose personally, MDTKM isn't a bad album at all but as a Joyce Manor album, it's a bit of a letdown. But I'm just thankful they're still making music.
I got into them because my friend was in a band and their signature song was a cover of their song “Constant Headache”. Now S/T is guaranteed to stay in my top ten albums until the end of time.

I agree about Million Dollars for the most part, but Big Lie is in my top 5 favorite songs by Joyce Manor. I love the guitar riff and the lyrics hit hard. Definitely the standout track on that one imo.

Joyce Manor has never pissed me off with a new album, I never listened to one when it came out and was like, "what the fuck was that?!?!" They might be the only band I can say that about.... Until The Front Bottoms released 'Going Grey', they were in the same category, but FUCK that album..... Goddamn Joyce Manor has delivered for a decade, thats incredible.

I seriously love this band. Never Hungover Again is one my favorite albums from the last few years despite it only being 19 minutes long lol. Cody is great as well, haven't checked out their newest album yet though.
Weirdly enough, of all things is my favourite of theirs. When I got into them it was their latest album and it just stuck with me. Took me years to get back into never hungover again cause it was such a jump in quality. Was like a completely different band.
Of All Things is a great album. Stir Crazy, Paper Origami, and Bride are underrated, Listen to Fiddlehead please.

I've been binging your videos lately and I've agreed with pretty much everything you've said up till this point. Of All Things I Will Soon Grow Tired is a banger of an album and I love every track, you're crazy for putting it at the bottom.
I only like half the songs on Cody, and Big Lie is pretty much the only thing worth listening to from Million Dollars. Wildflowers is pretty okay too.
Their first B-sides release Collection is on par with their first three albums as well, I'm not sure why you didn't bring it up since 8 of the 10 tracks aren't heard on other albums and the other 2 tracks are "rawer" sounding takes of Constant Nothing and Leather Jacket.

I think they’re the best band at naming albums. I don’t even like ‘Million Dollars to Kill Me’ but that’s a good title. As far as their music goes I think they could be a great aging punk band if they just kind of mature a bit more, musically and lyrically. I love a good aging punk band so here’s hoping.

How do you like 40 Oz. To Fresno?
I saw discovered them in 2011. They toured with Andrew Jackson Jihad and it was a crazy show. When they release their second album, that was the sweatiest show I've been too.
Their album ranking for me is Self Titled, Cody, Never Hungover Again, 40 Oz. To Fresno, OATISGTO, then Million Dollars to Kill Me.
Drainage is my all time favorite song by them though

I first saw Joyce Manor at a house show in Adelaide (Australia) in 2014 where they played in an old bedroom with mattresses as soundproofing. Barry was sick and laid on the couch all night. 10/10 would recommend!
You should check out the band glass beach, they're changing things up like crazy in emo, it's like a mix of jazz, electronic, emo and a ton of other stuff they're incredible
I've listened to Joyce Manor for a few years now and this is the first time hearing that the cover of Never Hungover Again isn't a pic of someone's parents at a party in the late 80s or 90s. (Btw Catalina Fight Song is super underrated)
Saw them live with Wavves and culture abuse back in 2017, on Halloween night, it was one of the best shows I've been to.
I remember I spent one of my first paychecks buying One of their shirts off of their old website. Took a month to come in but I still wear it all the time.

I absolutely love Joyce. Seeing them in concerts was the second best night of my life, second only to the CHON concert. I bought tons of merch and listen to them daily. But the punkest band alive? I actually laughed out loud when I read that
