- "Under the Oak - Plants of the forest garden" is a portray of Hanna Jönsson, founder of a perennial vegetables and plant nursery in southern Sweden.
"What was it really like here a few hundred years ago, when all of Skåne was forested? How much water was available before, when there were roots in constant contact with the groundwater, pumping it around? How much more did it rain because the trees were there, emitting substances that bind water molecules and make it rain? What have we really changed for the landscape, for insects, for us and other animals, when it is no longer a connected system?"
This is a film portray of Hanna Jönsson, in collaboration with My Kjellberg, devoted to developing the perennial plant material that could partly replace many of the annual vegetables; scots lovage, a perennial parsley, sea kale, a perennial mix between cale and broccoli, and bunching onion, an early spring substituted for yellow onions, just to mention some.
"There is a big difference between growing in perennial systems and in annual systems. One of the biggest differences is that it is very difficult to create a natural ecosystem, a system that works by itself, when you only work with annuals, because you don't create space for mycorrhizae. In a perennial system, you can really build it up, the way nature works. The more fungi we get, to co-operate with the plants in these systems, the less I have to do. Both in terms of finding water and finding and providing nutrients."

Twelve growers in Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Norway share their experiences of perennial vegetables in diverse conditions. Author: Eva Johansson.
The film is filmed and produced independently by Maja Lindström Kling 2024.

Very lovely way to be - we must get more and more, and we are more and more living this kind of way! Thank you!
Wonderful skill and wisdom Hanna. Tack !
Really enjoyed this and what a beautiful language :-)
😁♥
I am in awe of your knowledge and understanding of nature. Beautiful wee film, makes me happy!

Vilken fin film!
Tack Annika ❤
Simply the best! Wow!
Tack! 😊❤
Thank you, very interesting and inspiring!
😊 🙏
I found in a Swedish study of the government allowing the peasants to be summarily kicked off the land starting 1870. Their (those in positions of power) idea was to produce expansive monocultures. The peasants were in the way of these grand schemes it appears!
Now us former peasants are in a pickle as these many corporations behind the food system demand more money for lessor quality production. These investors are very greedy!
Excellent movie quality production packed with hard earned information!
Thank you Rick! And yes, It's time for the masses to produce, forage, pasture for themselves, on land and forests that is commonly owned, as was partly the case in Sweden in the past.

@@agroforestry_paradigmshiftfilm I like this agrihood word!
@@agroforestry_paradigmshiftfilm Interesting Sweden doesn't allow corporations to own land.
@@agroforestry_paradigmshiftfilm I loved verse from the farmer. I make a joke to make a point there is always macaroni & cheese for those who don't know how to grow food!
I actually watch the price of m&c in bulk, seems as though this highly processed food is becoming more expensive!
Soon I probably can't get away with saying, "no money no problem, there is always mac & cheese"!
Very inspiring, thank you so much.
I’m gonna start creating a perennial Food Forest this year near the Alps 🌞
Thank you David and best wishes with your food forest! I hope you will have some sweet chestnuts, they will probably like the alp environment 😊
I love eating Robinia flowers. They are sweet and remind me of almonds
👌..they are edible?
Such a beautiful and important film. Thank younger making these films! Would have loved to learn more about her though, how she got into this, was she educated in all this plant knowledge or has she learned along the way? Would love to live like this one day!
Great video 📸
Thank you!
❤❤video interaction is great ❤❤❤❤
Wonderful! My red valerian is unfortunately very bitter from early on, I'll have to look for more. But orpine in turn is good all the season, never getting bitter, so that I can use from April to October. Working with perennial vegetables is a great experience 🙂 PS: oh yes, one question - does Hanna have some secret recipe for making Good King Henry germinate? This nasty bastard doesn't want to start at all here...
Excellent film with so much knowledge. It is cool if you know German and English... Swedish is a lot easier to understand! LOL
Peace n Love from Canada.
Thank you! Peace n Love from Sweden ❤
Why do you plant the trees in cages? Great work and systems.
The cages are used to protect tree plants from voles.
