Ruthie was in the original London cast of Miss Saigon (premiered in 1989) as a Bar Girl and then I think she later took over the role of Ellen in London. This video is from the end of the Broadway run. Ruthie played Ellen for the final month, basically the same time Lea came back (the show closed end of January 2001) and also Will Chase as Chris. Of course, in between these Miss Saigon productions, Lea was Eponine and Ruthie was Fantine for the Les Miz 10th Anniversary Dream Cast Concert.
@@nowthen.4363 Ruthie was a Bar Girl in the original London cast where she also was understudy for Ellen, when I was lucky enough to see the first run Ruthie was the Ellen I saw she was amazing. Lea was sublime even at such a you age.
Cannot get over how incredible the level of acting and tension is in this scene. My head and heart are scrambling along with the characters. I couldnt breathe for a bit. The way she says the words “ My Husband” ! broke my heart. Her singing cry of desperation and demands seem so real its uncomfortable. Thanks for this reaction and the insights. ❤️🎶
Thanks for that. I’ve must have seen Miss Saigon like a million times, just love it to bits. Kim is Lea and Lea is Kim. What you say it’s a repeating theme is called a leifmotiv, and you’re right it originated in Opera as a short Melody associated to a character so the audience could easier follow the act and tell who’s actually leading
@@francoisjames02110 AH Enjoy!! 😍 Beth and I actually had our weekly RPDR Zoom and Chat. Maybe we should do a review of that haha! But it involves wine 🍷 Enjoy it!! ✨
@@nowthen.4363 OMG. 😱 I also always have a glass (or two) of 🍷 every time I watch RPDRs! 🤣 Thursday nights (UK S2) and Friday nights with untucked (US S13). And that would be a great idea reviewing it too. 😀
True...this scene between the two main characters is epic--the two women in Chris' life--finally had a showdown for the first time. It was intense...both Ruthie and Lea were fabulous.
I know I made several recommendations on another Lea video, but if you are specifically interested in the musical theater numbers, may I suggest: Lea and Regine Velasquez Broadway medley, Unusual Way, All I Ask of You with Josh Groban, Lea and Liz Callaway I Still Believe (I think there are 2 different performances online and I prefer the one where Lea is wearing a black pantsuit), Burn, Don’t Cry For Me Argentina.
Now, a new subscriber here for... Then another great reaction/ commentary videos... You both are doing a great job! Kudos. From a Pinoy in LA here. Cheers !🥂 Mabuhay!
Yes of course! Amazing song and performance from Lea. We both studied Musical Theatre so we have seen alot of clips. So just trying to pick things we haven't seen, or haven't seen for a while to keep it fresh. Saying that, I'll add it to the list xx
In lots of films this recalling of themes is quite prevalent. Two major examples: John Williams uses the recalling of motifs famously throughout the Star Wars films. It was also used by Howard Shore brilliantly in the Lord of the Rings films. It is called "leitmotif".
Ahhh love this performance!!! For the next theatre Thursday, please react to Kelli O’hara singing To Build A Home from The Bridges of Madison County. ❤️
You and your audience, it will be interesting to get acquainted with a young singer from Russia - Diana Ankudinova. Diana has a unique contralto, a range of more than three octaves and a vocal technique that is not available to all well-known performers. Diana is seventeen years old, she is a student of the theater institute, her original album should be released in the spring. Diana sings in Russian, English, French, Arabic and other languages. You can start your acquaintance with it with a cover of "Wicked Game" by Chris Isaac.
I thought you guys would talk about the moment when Kim dropped that piece of paper when she found out Ellen was Chris’ wife. I saw a parodied video of that somewhere on TH-cam. It was hilarious.
@@nowthen.4363 I’ll try to find it. BTW, you two are really amazing. I really enjoyed how you two dissect these performances. I just subscribed! Keep up the good work!
Both ladies were part of the Original Westend company of Miss Saigon. Lea of course as Kim and Ruthie as part of the ensemble/bar girl. She was not the original Ellen.
Lea - the best kim plus Ruthie - the best ellen equals epic performance.
Absolutely!!! Xx

Controversially, I always thought that is was the war and it's impact on a 17 year old girl, that turned her into the monster.
