dont understand why anyone has issues with the 12 team. nfl has had it figured out for 50 years. how do you think people would react if a random committee picked the 4 best nfl teams at the end of the season based on strength of schedule and a whole bunch of bias to play in the playoffs.
It should be the best 12 teams, period. If you're a conference champion, you will almost always be one of those 12 teams. But if you're not one of the best, you shouldn't get in, much less a bye.
Coaches don't win football games players do. Saban didn't win it all at Kent St, Michigan St, LSU, or with the Miami Dolphins. He won at Alabama because he had the best college players in America. Nick Saban has landed the No. 1 or No. 2 class in the recruiting rankings in each of the past five seasons, before he retired. No coach has every kicked a game winning field goal, caught a TD pass or sacked a QB.
Let's please not get into the best vs deserving argument again Dinich...the reason for expansion is to combine both to make everyone happy. But that's not possible i guess

Whatever opportunity teams to get a chance to play your second and third team player's will go a long way to keep your team healthy and fresh for a long season.
Teams that had two losses didn’t have the opportunity to get in the playoffs because they lost two games. That Alabama team that lost two games by 4 points might have won the championship that year, but they lost two games, so no opportunity.
