Something was throwing off my measurements on one I was trying to make and couldn’t figure it out until I paused your video. The one above being made is 23”. I counted it wire by wire about fifteen times...lol.
EXCELLENT !!! Man you have that down to a science !!! I am going to have to watch this several times to get the process down, but I love it......thanks for sharing.
@@ReelTexasOutdoors I bought the supplies yesterday and made one but this is what I learned from the process. 1- it is harder to do than it looks. 2. difficult to get the wire flat when you unroll it. 3. the hog nose rings that I have are to big so i used zip ties. They hold but it takes a lot of them and you need very very small ones. 4. it did not come out like it was supposed to. It looks horrible. 5. I can earn 50 dollars to buy one from you in less time than it takes me to build one on my own that looks horrible and is not very strong. 6. From this point on, I will buy them from you so I know I have a strong trap that will work and last me a long time. Thanks
@@buynsell365 - man, I'm sorry it turned out that way for you. It sucks to put the time in and it not turn out like you want it to. To be absolutely 100% honest, your reasons are the main reason that I personally sell so many traps. At this point, I have built thousands and thousands of these things, and there's absolutely no way that I would ever do this by "hand"... as in using zip ties or manual hog rings. It's just far too time consuming. You definitely need a large area to work and the right tools... or it's miserable to do. Thanks again for the comments on my videos, and I will definitely be glad to build you a trap down the road. =) Thanks brother!
Hello and thanks for the great video! Very detailed/skilled work. Curious if you could expand some more on the openings? Do you cut them right to the bottom? I recognize there are state regulations on size. Also, what types of freshwater fish have you had success in catching? I’m thinking about this for the lake I live on / yellow perch.
Hi Wolverine! Man, I am so sorry for the delayed response here, and I appreciate the comment. As for openings, we do expand them some for use on private land / water. To be legal though, they almost always have to be 1" x 3" in most states that allow traps. I rarely cut them all the way to the bottom in order to prevent fish from escaping. You can catch just about species of fish you want to target with these... well, shad would be difficult as they're not a good fish to trap. Other than that, all sorts of perch have been caught in here... even birds and snakes, haha. I have personally sent some of these traps to canada for someone wanting to catch yellow perch as well. It all depends on the bait used, but you can target specific species for sure. Hope this info helps, and sorry again for the delayed response. Have a great one!
I just ordered the Perch trap (cloverleaf) 24”x24”x12”. This guy obviously knows what he is doing! I’m pretty handy at making things but don’t mind paying the man for a good trap that will last a lifetime I’m sure!
M Orleski - thanks for the question. all entry points are 1 in x 3 in... which is legal for most public lakes. Turtles, unless they’re very very small, should not be able to get inside the trap. Let me know of you have any other questions. Thanks again.
Thanks for the comment. I use the same vertical entrance for all bait fish traps... but if a person is wanting to use it for crawfish then I would recommend the horizontal doors. Hope this helps some.. have a great one.
Man I have built these traps, and it takes me 5 hours minimum!! That's why I buy mine from you guys now. After what it cost me to buy the supplies and materials, I really can't save much money anyway. It's just a way better deal! Y'all make the best traps I've ever used. ALMOST better than my Grandads old trap, ALMOST! :) :) :) P.S.- To anybody else considering making one, do yourself a favor, and just order one. It's not much more money to buy it from the pro's and it's going to catch more fish/last longer. Plus if you make your own, I guarantee you will get cut up from the wire, spend a full day gathering supplies and building it, PLUS you're not going to save much money building it. I don't know about you, but I use traps to save time, so I can fish more! Let the Professionals do this. It's just not a good DIY project. Just my opinion after 30 years of fishing big catfish and using these traps.
Hi Michael... thank you so much for the kind words. It means a lot that you took the time to write this great comment. I have long said that there's just no way I would personally build these traps without the set up and tools I have. Doing it by hand is just ridiculously slow and painful (as you mentioned, haha). Again, thank you for the kind words. I sincerely appreciate it.
Hi David, yes sir... we sell and ship them all over the US. You can find more info at www.reeltexasoutdoors.com, and shoot me an email if you have any questions. Thank you, sir.
Hi Joe... thanks for the comment. This mesh would not work well in salt water. It's just regular galvanized hardware cloth in this video, and I think it uses around 14 feet. Thanks.
I put hotel on mine an it catches 2 times better but some states may not allow them on the trap Texas only has a size requirement that it can’t be bigger than no regulations on design that I know of
It’s s square trap with a divider so I make my trap with 3 entries in an the the 4 entry hole is inverted an there’s a full width 8 inch wide room that they can go into so the can go into trap an then into the other part also usually if trap is in good spot both spots fill up
@@leodoronila7784 Im not 100% sure for tilapia... but I would start with some dry dog food or some white bread. I bet you can catch them with that. Best of luck!
what is the air tool you are using to fasten the wire together? Thanks in advance

What are you’re outer perimeter measurements for where you make your bends?
What tool is that brotha and what size clips for a trap like that? Last one I made I used zip ties was a pain in the a** lol.
hey man, yeah... zip ties are a ton of work. This was a pneumatic hog ringer in the video that uses 1/2 inch rings. Good luck
What clipping gun are you using?
I see you use a nematic hog ringer. What brand, model is it and what size hog rings do you use to build the traps.
What tool do you use?
what size roll of wire are you using?
What size are the entrances? I want to make sure I'm not going to get turtles in there.

What tool are u using to clip that like that ?
What is that pneumatic gun called?
Hello, what is the tool your using ? to conect the wire? some kind of a staple gun ?

What kind gun is that your using
I watched some of your old videos wondering if u changed the entrance if it was vertical or horizontal
