The islander logo is a deal breaker for me. Looks out of place in my opinion. I also do not get along with the handset.
It would be a hard pass from me, but I see they have sold out already which is great. I wish them all the best and love to see them succeed!

I ordered mine even before I finished TGV’s premier video yesterday. I looked at the Long Island Watch website again, later in the evening, and they’ve already sold out. I’m not sure if I’m more excited for the watch, or just excited that for once I didn’t miss out on something like this. I’m sure I won’t be disappointed when it arrives.

Saw TGV and Marc’s videos first - gotta say I was really glad to hear you were gonna be one of the reviewers- trouble is by the time I had watched them all they had sold out 😢
Once upon a time I was put off by the Islander logo, but now I just associate it with Marc himself. And when I look at it now, I'm reminded of him and the warm feels I get throwing on his content. Seems appropriate particularly on a watch like this!
Marc at LIW goes SO HARD! I just got one of the LIW + Spinnaker Croft LE collabs - it is OUTSTANDING. Mine is 012 of 150, stamped on the caseback, which gives it a nice "this is actually collectible" touch.

I love your channel and 100% agree with your dial thoughts. Until Mark gets rid of the painted sub dial logo its a hard no, but I must say the Urban Gentry logo and the self winding print looks awesome. I love your honest review and haven’t completely drank the Islander cool aid

I have 4 Islanders and just bought this new Rangemaster.
To be fair, whatever your into Islander has the watch for you. I can't fault them to be fair.
What I would say is that there are other Brands that are also really good. Islanders are good solid affordable watches from a trustworthy company. CWC, Farer, Spinnaker, Squale, Dan Henry and others are also decent Brands. 👌
Gotta agree..that urban gentry logo is nice especially if on 12 position...is it me but the indices and numbers if applied with the silver borders would look stunningly spectacular...
@@slumking112 it would give a more current Rolex vibe for sure but I’m a huge fan of the Rolex 1016 model.

I'm glad you pointed out some negatives and made great suggestions especially the dial stuff. I'm wondering if you think the smooth bezel is a tad thick encroaching on the dial? Quite frankly, I applaud this collab but it seem's forced as far as combining all the recognizable borrowed features.
Christian! Thank you! I honestly see this watch as a love letter to all the watches TGV loves! He’s not trying to remake the wheel. I applaud them both for that. In the hands and on the wrist it’s a bloody good watch. If I thought it was a clone I’d mention it. It’s a Dan Henry, NTH homage, a homage done right. Personally I love a thick bezel! Reminds me of the old Hamilton’s and a brand Serica !

I ordered the Rangemaster on a whim yesterday and I am glad I did as they sold out really quickly. I've been wanting a watch this size for a while, so this was great timing!

Nicely done but the best affordable Explorer alternative I've seen is Timefactors Everest. Since the rise of Ali Express everyone seems to have forgotten about Tisell from South Korea with their clomage of the discontinued 214270, very reasonably priced. The Royal Navy Precista diver only issued in 1981/2 had a similar handset known as d--khead hands by the troops. 😉 The wife is always on point. Onwards and upwards. OK Ciao!!

I think it's a great looking watch. They did a great job of mixing elements. The watch sold out very quickly. I did have a shot at picking one up and I did debate it, but I just recently picked up another watch with Ranger/Explorer type inspirations felt like too soon to buy such a similar watch and the thought of flipping the one I just purchased so soon kinda felt unnecessary. I checked in later in the day pretty much convinced to purchase and with both in hand and then decide which I liked most but by then it was sold out.
Congrats to Marc and TGV on a great looking watch that sold very well, I'm sure they could have built three times as many easily and sold them out as well. And to TMWC on always entertaining yet fair review.
Love watching your videos I never comment but I have to say the style and directions are unquie and original very entertaining!
There are two Rangemasters listed for auction on ebay and the bidding is at $600 for one and $610 for the other! The lowest buy it now price for a Rangemaster is $875! Glad I ordered mine early!

Unlike my friend from The Great White North, I'm not going to be dissuaded from purchasing this lovely beauty because of Marc's logo. I could think of a lot worse logos for a watch then the Islander brand. I ordered one and cannot wait to show it off on IG. Great work TGV and nice review Russ.

I like this watch! (similar to the ISL-54 I LOVE and have been trying to get you to take a look at, though this one at 38mm is probably a better fit for your wrist). Always love your wife's thoughts on a watch! Another great review! Thanks Russell!

While it's not for everyone it was definitely for me. Good price and limited pieces. Not a fan of the logo under the 12 but its not terrible... I was going to get a Ranger but it was kinda plain for a couple grand. So a nice do it all watch from the actual guys who got me into watches is a win.
Nice design cues. Although I would have written Islander instead of the logo at the top. And at the bottom (in that order):
Urban
Gentry (instead of the logo)
Self winding (Keeping the Tudor style smile)
Keep the islander logo on the crown. And only have the big lion on the case back.
Then again, that’s just my personal take.

Just not sure about this, the numerals and hands feel like a copy of the explorer and ranger rather than a homage. Maybe it’s not going for an original feel which I get they are both great watches.

Great review as always, almost as good as the wife’s first impressions😉. Nice watch, if I didn’t have an explorer style homage already I’d probably get one. But 500 other lucky people can get that honor.
I think that's a fair comment, I don't see this as a direct homage to any watch London as its as I'm looking at it on my wrist right now! Just a collection of parts and brands that TGV loves tbh! Im down with it!:]
i really like it.. modern and classic all rolled into a noice likkle package.. I'm not usually into the explorer style homages tbh.. but.. this isn't just a homagey type watch.. hmm.. yep.. like it.

I expected it to be nicer particularly the bottom heavy dial and case back, giving TGVs experience and passion. I much prefer my Seiko SRPG29. Thanks for the review, excellent as always :-)

I think they'll sell well. I do think Marc has to come up with a better logo. My impression is that it's well made and will provide it's owner with many years of enjoyment.

They can also create a logo, the TGV LionIs maybe inside the Islander round logo.

Rangemaster is also brand of cooker / stove in the UK.
I agree the TGV logo would of been lovely at the top,no need for both makes it to cluttered,but everything else is perfect
I just wish they made more of them or did not make it a one time release. Would love them to do a pre order of another round so they could control manufacturing and meet demand.
Thanks for a great review! looks liek a nice watch - may try to get one to see. Agree on the logos - maybe TGV and long Island flipped a coin to see who'se logo went at 12'o;clock, and TGV lost....maybe in v2.0....Good value at $349 +tax, but mayeb a little close to Seiko pricing....

%100 agreed with your dial assessment. The Dial should be the creators canvas signature, the islander logo is already on the crown and back case.

Really like this watch, only two nitpicks:
1. Would have liked to see minute markers instead of the 24 hour markers
2. That Islander logo needs a redesign. I don't like the circular logo on a circular object, and even worse it's basically a clock on a watch.. Mark has some amazing watches but every single one of them becomes a 'no' for me once I see that flippin logo on it lol

Completely agree with what you said regarding the dial, unfortunately it's a dealbreaker for me.
I'm not a huge fan of the Islander logo. It's a circle within a circle case. Otherwise, I like everything Mark does. HOWEVER, I do think his logo works well with this particular watch because it's not as white as the logo on his other watches and it matches the whole color scheme. TGV, again, has done a great job designing. Can't wait for his next!

If they delete the Islander logo and do as you rightly suggested with the dial, I'd be online ordering one (although... its a little expensive, but its a limited first run so that might improve). The Urban Gentry / TGV logo really suits the look of the watch. The Islander logo looks cheap. Just my opinion. Great review !

Thanks for sharing. Marc has launched some beautiful watches recently, but for me, this is not one of them. Neither the hands, the proximity of logo and 12:00 index, the busy print above the 6:00, the font of the 3 - 6 - 9 , the very different logos on the caseback, nor the white on the signed crown are for me. All together, they make the watch look "cheap". But that is just my humble opinion.
Oh man your suggestion with the lion up top would have looked AWESOME. Still really like the watch though. And I like Marcs logo unlike most people.
No I like it Jared just not sure on this dial. We already have the word Islander on the dial to so it’s just for the look I’d remove it on this one

I quite like the watch but must say, in my opinion the dial is a bit confused. Indices and numerals are too bold, at 12 the oversized triangle is trimmed and looks like it's in a fight with the islander logo and with this in mind use a '12' at 12 and with the islander logo present there's no need to state islander at 6 which clutters the 6 position also. And everything printed on the dial is just bright white and flat print it seems, just adding to the overload appearance. Quite a stressful dial but a good watch I'm sure. And great value for sure.
Agreed on the dial could have been better. For me, Lion on top with ISLANDER beneath it, then usual ROTOR SELF-WINDING smiley at the bottom. I didn't jump at this watch simply because of this. Amazing watch overall but I just know that would have bugged the hell out of me. I also would have preferred 5 minute intervals on the dial edge instead of 24 hr time, but that's not a deal breaker.
The Logo under the 12 🥺. I'd prefer the Islander text under the 12 instead. I have the same problem with that block on San Martin.

Always like your videos, the watch on the other hand doesn't do it for me. A lot of watch for the money but too small for a big guy like myself and it is just a bit bland I'm afraid, sorry. Most reviewers of watches like to see four instead of three micro adjustments (just saying) I am not a fan of the flip clasp (they wear out and quickly lose firmness/tightness, not sure if I use the right description here when often used), I prefer the push buttons on a bracelet. Any way, good luck I am sure that they will sell and be liked by many.
Smashing watch as expected, but, as I prefer something subtle, I’m holding on for the new Deepsea Challenge from Rolex. The AD assured me it should ‘slip under any cuff.

It is teriffic value, no question. I like facets. The bezel is thick. Nothing wrong with that. Makes it more tooly.
I really like Marc's Sarb alternatives dressy and fab specs and value again.
Can't go wrong with this watch.

Your wife’s thoughts, and your views on the dial are spot on!
The overall effect reminds me of the Daoist Philosophy - “too many colours blind the eye!”
As you say, the Islander logo should go. It is too contemporary for the style. It is too polarising, and totally at odds with the classic Urban logo - too many colours!
The dial is simply not harmonious in its detail.
Sadly the egos of the logos, has spoilt what otherwise would have been a reasonable attempt.

I do NOT appreciate this watch, however. Too small. Poor lume. Boring. It fits TGV’s dainty wrist, I understand. The push for smaller watch cases is maddening. This watch is a big NO for me.
