    Little Nightmares II. A game where Mono, the boy with a bag over his head, attempts to escape the Signal Tower and the Thin Man with his buddy Six. In 2017, we got our first look into Little Nightmares through the eyes of Six, and since then we've also seen the world through the yes of the Runaway Kid. But today, we're stepping back from the runaway kid, the girl in the yellow raincoat, and the nomes to focus on Mono and why he couldn't be left alive! I know that the title has spoilers, but the game has been out for MONTHS now so it's time to breakdown Little Nightmares 2: The Story You Never Knew!

      @@Treesicle hey, amazing theory, but i am team Mono, the creators made the game to have a free interpretation, i want to share mine.
      1 - this is a distorcionated society, the ugly people is to show how damaged they are inside.
      2 - the real evil is not Mono, he is the vessel of the eye which in the game is a lovecraftian monster which uses the towar signal to slowly eat the citicens, the signal is so strong that it reach the island the nest in "very little nigthmares", the maw "Little Nigthmares 1" and the forest where "Little Nigthmares 2" begins. That monster is so strong that it can distortion reality, like make the thin man and Mono, coexist in the same time to make a Mono remplace the other, and the same happens with six and the lady, that lady in the maw is the grown up vertion of six, not another, the monster called "the flesh void" is an actual caracter in some images of the conceptual art which was ultimately not used in the game showed that flesh void with out a presentator went out of the tower and it was a giant baby monster made of flesh.
      3 - Six didn't kill Mono, she just broke his heart. Six is impulsive and not very strategic, she has the instict to figth to the top. But deep inside she is a psyco: (look how she enjoyed breaking maniquies fingers before she saw any evil hand, how killed the other child, how she ate the run away kid, how she never hesitate toforsake Mono lin many ocations. She let go Mono because he broke her music box that shows some kind of trauma created before Mono freed her. The one who killed Mono was himself, same with six and the lady, it is a symbolic way to say that both killed them selves. This happened due to the events in "very little nigthmares" like present, past and future are mixed because of Flesh Void. In the maw there are pictures of the lady with a small girl, that is six's daugther who seen the horrors of the maw escaped in a hot ballon to the nest, wich was the house of Mono there are pictures of his feet there. In the end the pretender and the other girl died together and that made Mono and six kill them selves, because both lost their daugthers.

    I read a lot of theorists saying the eye Monster rules over all others in the world and has a conscious of its own, it absorbs the viewers bodies and combines them with its own after draining their bodies of every last bit of their life force(souls). They said the eye was always watching mono and six through the TVs and had attempted to capture mono by using six as bait and a temporary host for the signal, it was always planning on getting to mono since his power allows its transmission to be broadcasted. They also said it felt threatened by mono and six working together because their teamwork would have allowed mono to end his loop, so it made plans to separate them by forcing them to fight each other. But that’s just what they believe, anything is valid at this point if you got the evidence to support it.

    • @penguin32700
      @penguin32700 2 ปีที่แล้ว +191

      when the little nightmares 2 twitter page was asked what happened in the little nightmares 2 ending, they said , "extracting someone from a fantasy can be deeply upsetting for everyone involved", a lot of other theorists are saying six dropped mono because she had become addicted to the transmission in the same way the viewers were. Once Mono broke the music box, he cut her from the perfect false world the eye had made everyone addicted to and because of this she was deeply angered towards mono for breaking her music box and tearing her out of the comfort and safety she became addicted to, so she dropped him. I dont know if you saw the secret ending to the game or read the little nightmare's 1 and 2 comics or the little nightmares 2 twitter page, but there has been a lot of crazy things being uncovered since the games release. A lot of the theorists are saying the whole "six knew mono was the thin man by looking at his face" was wrong because it was the most obvious choice to think of when the game was finished and how these observations mirror every other theory the fanbase first had when they played the previous games. For Little Nightmares a lot of people though six was the ladys daughter, and for very little nightmares a lot of people though they were playing as Six, but the developers said all these things were wrong because they were the most obvious and traditional choice seen in other story lines. Six was never the daughter of the lady and we were never playing as six in very little nightmares. The more the theorists looked into things, the more they realized six could not have known an old guy had the same face as a 9 year old kid and how despite Monos weird activity towards the televisions, six never once made the choice to leave mono even when she had multiple opportunities to do so.

Aside from this, they also discovered how out of all the geisha statues seen in the ladys quarters, there are 8 statues of young girls in dresses, all of them have their heads chopped off.

    I'd really like for Six to have a redemption where to succeed in the game, she has no choice but to learn to trust, and this gives her an opportunity to reconnect with Mono and stop him becoming the Tall man, but the game is choice based, if you make too many "don't trust" options earlier in the game, you get the Bad ending, but if you do take the chance to trust (which doesn't necessarily lead to a positive experience every time), you get an eerie Friendship ending where you realise it's just a handful of children facing a fairly doomed future together, instead of alone, like a bleak hope.

      This sounds fun! Maybe at the end you cant choose, but instead Six chooses an option depending on your previous ones, if you don't choose enough of the "trust" option, Six betrays her companion and then she needs them to get through a monster or something, if you choose too much of the "trust" option, Six pulls them up, but then trusts others too much and gets killed, and if you balance it out, only then you can get the good ending.

    Spoilers for the LN mobile game
    ↓ ↓ ↓
    I feel like another contributor for Six to act on her more negative emotions would be because of the girl in the yellow raincoat’s death in the mobile game. There was a cliff at the end and, instead of saving herself and going straight for the raft in the water, she helped the girl by attempting to stop the pretender with the boulder. This is also in spite of the girl (unknowingly) locking Six out of the shed before this. But it didn’t work and the girl in the raincoat still died. Six also doesn’t attempt to save any of the children in the maw, even using a cage with a child in it to reach a rope. Saving others must have felt futile and the best course of action in her mind would be to not get close to anyone otherwise it could mean getting hurt again.
    How Six ended up at the Nest in the first place also intrigues me. I wonder if she had any previous interactions with the Pretender that started this cycle of cynicism.

      My theory is that the eye is an alien entity who came to earth thousand of years ago,started the maw, when the food source started decreasing,captured the pale city, made a thinman of their own, made a signal tower, then created a loop replacing the old thinman with new (mono), this might also explain why, in the concept art, there seems to be a thinman that isnt mono, the same story goes with six, then trapping both mono and six in a loop of mono becoming the thinman and six becoming the lady, then theres no need for new food source for the eye which is because the loop ot created provides the eye with infinite food source(souls of viewers and the guests).

      I wouldn't be so sure about it. We know, that physics and probably even time gets distorted/twisted in the signal tower and to some extend outside of it (look at the pale citys buildings). I am not even sure, if mono isn't actually trapped in a time loop (probably twisted in and out of itself anyway). So perhaps if thin man were able to kill its younger self, it would only end one string of of this loop. Because we also know, that the thin man once existed as some kind of police officer or privat inspector, looking at the buro found in LN2 and the artbook, where the thinman interviews a child. Perhaps he was searching for missing children, which were kidnapped by a distorted/manipulated thin man in the first place.
      Maybe the hunter was after him because like every citizen of the pale city (he lives out in the woods but clearly the thin man and signal hat some influence there too) he was also trapped within the signals distortion/timeloop. To be free of it, perhaps he wanted to kill the TM, who would come to him with help of the children the Hunter set out as lure.
      We know that mono is afraid to be left alone (a prophecy made true through Six's betrayal, who was afraid of Mono growing up to be her kidnapper). Perhaps in his distorted version of being the TM, he made sure to never be alone anymore. Kidnapping other children (because he probably didnt grew up right in his head. Can't blame him there) or even the adults, which get sucked up by the signal/tv to become this fleshy mass with one mind.
      Perhaps Mono was manipulated by the Eye to think everyone hated him and hence his only chance for any kind of friendship/companionship would be to do exactly what the Eye seemed to want. After looping, distorting and repeating events over and over (because by the time we plax LN2, everyone seems to come to hate the TM) he probably doesn't even know his own origin anymore or how his phobia came to be. This is his reality now.

    I think this is the one theory that I actually like the most about Mono's fate in LN 2.
    I reckon, if they were to make another game, there would be another child. But this time, a child with power over TIME. The Signal Tower would want that power to both use and ensure that no one else can use it against the signals. So, we would like see Thinman (Mono) again. Would we see Six? I don't know. She's the icon of Little Nightmares, but I don't think she would have as much screen time as she has in the past couple of games.
    But imagine that. A third game centred around a child who is learning to manipulate TIME. We have the child with power and strength (Six), the child who can bend and manipulate the desires and evil of others (Mono) and finally the child that has control over time itself...
    Next time you die in any Little Nightmares game ever, ask yourself this: Did you wake up from a dream? Or a distant memory of an alternate time...

    Great video!
    The thing I like about this ending are the different layers. From the most straight-forward, plot driven view, she dropped him because she realized he was the thin man. From a more character building lens, we can see how she comes to associate mono with being trapped (this came from another TH-camr, I can't remember who), and he keeps destroying her music box, her escape from reality. He also indirectly gets her captured by the bullies, taken by the thin man and even almost buried in rubble. In her head, mono destroys safety both physically and through the entanglement of having someone care about her. Then there's the sheer force of the trauma six has seen. The way the girl in the yellow raincoat died after saying her. The doubtless dozens of friends she's seen killed, kidnapped, and hurt. The shock of living through whatever made the world so horrible and knowing that children are literally killer and made into food.
    The moment before she drops him is a long one. It's a moment of realization, hesitation, and even malice. I see it as her realizing Mono is the Thin Man, having the initial urge to drop him, contemplating and doubting her decision, and then making the decision and letting him stew in that moment of uncertainty for all the pain he caused.
    I've always thought of Little Monsters as a metaphor for the ways society uses people, literally grinds people up, to keep the system going forward. In real life, lots of children end up as calloteral damage in this cruel world. It's the same for the Pale City and the Maw.
    The name Little Monsters has always meant four things to me. One, it signifies children. People call children "monsters," sometimes when they're out of control. But generally, when a child does something awful, whether from a moral standpoint or a societal one, it's because of what's going on in their life and not the same adult wish to cause harm. People are often afraid of children because there's a kind of undeveloped wildness to them. (Which, of course, is just part of growing up and healthy adults recognize that and meet children where they're at developmentally.) Two, Little Monsters refers to how the world changes us and shapes us and it's hard to escape unharmed. We have to do monstrous things to survive, but they're not the same kind of systemic crimes at the core of our society. It's just a little bit of evil.
    Third, Little Monsters delves into the complex moral question of a child who does something truly bad or cruel. Again, Six is a product of her evironment. I don't blame her for things the way I would an adult. But there are things you do as a child that define you as an adult. And Six has certainly does those. She bears responsibility for that and has to figure out how to live with it and maybe one day confront it when she's older. Which, for me, comes at the end of Little Nightmares 1 where she kills the guests on the Maw and, exhausted, just sits on the beach and stares.
    Last, Little Monsters is about intergenerational trauma. The way children can be an echo of the adults in their life. How the mistakes of one parent can be passed down in a toxic cycle with a, "This is how I was raised and I'm fine," kind of mentality. How you can go from being the victim your youth to being a perpetrator as an adult. How abuse, neglect, and societal collapses creates these, "Little Nightmares." Children who have to do awful things to survive. Who make adults uneasy because they reflect all their personal misgivings and mistakes right back at a parent. And, as this TH-cam video points out, the only way out is to break the chain of violence with love and trust.
    The name Six is intruiging because it implies a One, Two, Three, Four and Five. It could be a callous way of naming children. It could be a name indicating generation. My favorite theory is that it refers to the time loop. This is the sixth rendition. In this one, Six dropped Mono and continued the cycle with the Thin Man. It could even apply to the Lady. Could the Lady be Five? Did her methods end in bloodshed too?
    This begs the question, will there be a seventh cycle? In a perfect world I'd love to see a Little Nightmares 3 where Seven walks a new path. Maybe you play as Six and Seven. Six with her new powers, jumping into other dimensions and worlds and defeating the big monsters, as with the Lady and the Thin Man. Meanwhile Seven walks through some familiar paths, maybe on the heels of Six, making similar decisions, but having a more open and trusting relationship. The two finally meet at the moment when Six/Seven drops Mono and together decide to pull him up. Then Six and Seven merge, or Seven disappears because Six has changed the timeline, and Six and Mono walk off into a world freed from the signal, finally ready for a fresh start.
    I can dream, can't I?

    Here's another idea as to why six let go of mono: since he was saying Six knew the face of the Thin Man and that is the same as mono just younger so I guess she knew what the Thin Man could do and so to prevent this she let go of him so that he couldn't become the Thin Man later on but in so doing he did become the Thin Man and he had a thirst for Revenge after she did that. It's like Revenge begets revenge. He broke her music box she dropped him. he then goes and grows up and waits for six to come around and then capture her again to prevent that future event. In addition, Mono's fate somewhat stem from his own actions, going after Six, ripping a part of her soul out, putting her in the realm of the tower that deformed her, they turned out to be even. I'm late to this but I think you excellently explain Six's character development. It's one of my favorite character developments in any media ever, and usually I see people do a disservice to it by acting as if she was always secretly evil. I don't think she even is evil, and I think you perfectly explained what I've felt this whole time. She's just a child in a horrible, horrible world, and it messes her up. We WATCH it mess her up over the course of the game. The note about revolution fits perfectly, as does the note about her being more fueled by hate at hateful people. Children only know what they see. Everyone I talk to seems to miss that a) she's a child and b) when taking into consideration what she's going through, all of her actions make sense. I think to say that she was evil all along does a huge disservice to one of the most subversive character development plotlines I've ever seen, because it's not often you see a character develop into something WORSE, and if you do it's usually done poorly. Six to me makes perfect sense as a product of her world, and I can't wait to see where Bandai takes her in the next game.

    Six had to let go of Mono, because her main goal at this point is self preservation. She was kidnapped and detained during Very Little Nightmares. She probably didn't bother to develop some close relationships with her fellow inmates in the Nest since they'll die when the Pretender takes them. Perhaps she did have some friends, but over time as the Pretender takes them one by one, she started to not care at all.
    I'd wager that the last straw was when Six saw Raincoat Girl and Pretender fall to their deaths. She tried to save Raincoat Girl, but she fails, and the Pretender manages to lunge towards the Girl and they both die. It was the time where Six cared again, but it ends in vain.
    Maybe this was why she was weary towards Mono at first. She saw him before being captured by the Hunter, but she was afraid that she'll get too attached and lose another one again. When she realizes that Mono was Thin Man, she got terribly frustrated that she trusted again, so she lets him go.

    • @IhateIsrahell
      @IhateIsrahell 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      That’s the stupidest reason to dropping a child to their death. She lives in a world where she can get killed or corrupted easily. You cannot kill somebody because of your “thoughts” or “feelings”. It takes serious courage, leaving the only answer to why she dropped him because she betrayed him and left him for dead. She didn’t know he was the thin man at all, since the thin man is literally an old man and mono is 10, which means their faces look nothing alike. Nobody ever thinks of this, but she could’ve been using him to get somewhere in the pale city. She needed his help, and when she didn’t need him, she dropped him.
      “Too attached”
      So what? You’re gonna kill somebody just because you think you’re gonna fail at saving them? That doesn’t even make any sense at all, it’s like going to court and saying “I dropped them off a building because I thought they were gonna die”. No offense, but these theories aren’t even close to being realistic.

    • @Gallade400
      @Gallade400 2 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      @@IhateIsrahell Here's why, and I hope you read it:
      Six was a nice girl kidnapped and taken to the Nest. She helped Raincoat Girl by guiding her to where the raft is. We know this because she tipped the boulder to kill the Pretender, and save Raincoat Girl much like the girl saved her moments prior. "Six could've missed on purpose!" It would've been a lot easier for her to let the Pretender take the Raincoat Girl, but Six saved her, tried at least.
      Then comes the events in Little Nightmares 2. This is the moment Six dons the Yellow Raincoat, presumably because it reminded her of an old friend. Throughout the game, we see Six helping out Mono. We saw Six murdering one boy with a hammer, but it's most likely due to frustration or revenge for what they did to her. Remember, Six had been through A LOT at this point. The only thing that matters is their survival, and everyone else is an enemy, especially if they hurt Six and Mono. Realistically, we know that there are children who are capable of violent acts when pushed to a certain point. A child is still a human being after all. Mental maturity isn't solely defined by your age, but also by the things you experienced, such as trauma.
      Six helped Mono out of the TV, but was later captured by the Thin Man. Now, it's highly possible that the Thin Man confronted Six after all these years, but Six couldn't understand where his hate is coming from. After being saved by Mono, Six reached out her hand to save him so they could escape together. However, there was a pause. It is probably the first time Six saw Mono's face up close. I don't know about you, but my face isn't all that different from when I was a kid fifteen years ago. Same thing for my sisters, my brothers, and my friends. So, given that she's fresh from 'monsterization' and the time she spent captured by Thin Man, Six realizes that Mono is Thin Man. Remember, Mono didn't transform into Thin Man. He wasn't exposed to some mirror-altering magic. He grew into him, as he was trapped in the Tower for years.
      Going back to Six, we know she's been through so, so much at this point. This is why she was so frustrated at that kid she bashed with a hammer. This is why Six was so mad at Mono at first, presumably because if he didn't save her from the Hunter, she wouldn't turn into a monster like the rest of the people in the world. Now, you are holding on to the boy who is the reason you became a monster. If you travel together, there is a chance that he'll lose control and betray you. Remember, you've been captured so many times and this boy failed to stop those from happening, only to save you when you've already experienced the horrors of your kidnappers. Now, he turns out to be the most dangerous kidnapper you ever met. Will you risk it? At any point, he could lose control and kill you, you know?
      Six lets go of Mono, to save herself. When I said "too attached", I meant that she was hesitant to approach Mono in the Hunter Shack because of what happened to the Raincoat Girl, and presumably to all the children who were killed in the Nest. It's not a dumb reason, and I can tell you as a professional teacher myself, there are children who refuse to socialize because of their traumatic experiences. She didn't 'kill' Mono because she doesn't want to get too attached, she 'killed' him because she knew Mono was Thin Man. If Six really wanted to kill Mono, she wouldn't extend her hand to save him.
      Bonus: in the comics, we see Six hiding in an unnamed city, which is most likely to be the Pale City, surrounded by the ugly people whose only semblance of beauty had been taken away (the Signal Tower and the Doctor). She's already wearing the Raincoat, so this was after LN2. Further in the comis, we see Six saved by some children in the Maw, but she refused to tell her past to them. Again, traumatic experience. Even further in, a boy sees her looking at a TV in static and asks her WHAT SHE HAS SEEN, and guess what? She REFUSES to answer again.
      So to you, why did Six betrayed Mono? You said she used her to look for something in the Pale City, but evidence tells you that she spent her next few days or months in hiding. Later on, she was found by the Ferryman and taken to the Maw. She had nowhere else to go. Then, was Six an evil person who betrayed Mono because she felt like doing so? Six could've done that in many, many occassions before meeting the Thin Man, but she even extended her hand to save Mono in the end. So, she wasn't evil, she wasn't looking for something in the Pale...so why did she betray him then?

      @paendabear (this is a really bad theory and it's still in the workings, I might end up scrapping it completely) if six was to steal his power couldn't six just did that before? In the pale city six had to reach out a hand so mono could jump, six could have let go knowing the possibility that mono is the thinman but six pulled mono up. Six had seen mono go through the tv multiple times and if I were her I would definitely connect the dots with that. I also have a theory that six sees when mono dies and respawns and can move about when it happens. At the wilderness when they are trying to get away from the hunter, six is running before the player can get up to start running. She's halfway across the screen when mono can move. So six clearly knows something's up. Six is running before the player can move because her life is in danger, but mono can respawn when he dies, that's why six is running before mono can. But like the video said, the hunter is trying to protect six. Six realizes this inside the tower and let's go of mono. As mono falls, he likely saw his life flash before his eyes and he also commits murder with six in the wilderness and in the school, which likely means he was mentally broken along with six. All these times mono experienced near death moments, he likely had Terminal Lucidity, which if it happens and you don't die after, it could mess you up. This is likely what happens to six and along with the fact that she knows who mono is, could be the reason she killed mono.

    So I had a thought. IDK if it applies or not--but once you said "the hunter was trying to protect six"--it hit me. The start of the game, the tv goes out. We see several other TVs and traps placed specifically in Monos path. Perhaps the other tvs at the start were past attempts by the thin man? Perhaps the traps were placed there to catch mono and end the cycle? Maybe the sack over the hunters head was to help him not see the transmissions? Maybe thats why he lived so far out in the wilderness?

    Some people think the reason Six dropped Mono in the out was because either A. She knew his secret, which I believe may be true. B. She knew she would get hungry to the point she would eat Mono and spared his life, and C. She’s just evil. Now the thing is I keep going back to C considering that we’ve seen her bad side when attacking one of the glass kids so harshly, she chewed and broke mannequin fingers for fun, and when the Giant Medic monster was burning in the furnace Six just sat there for warmth unfazed with what had happened. Now what confirms this completely is right when she drops you, you get an achievement called “Your true colors” with a caption saying “I see right through you.” There is no doubt that she was bad or just made bad choices unintentionally🤣.

      Why should six have to be kind to people who are trying to kill them? The doctor tried to harvest them, the bullies hanged her my her feet for hours, enacting revenge doesn't make you evil and frankly. It makes people who use these points look like idiots.

    • @Sanimatez7865
      @Sanimatez7865 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@goose7215 Although you have a point despite calling people idiots for accusations that have proven her character trait, it is very dark for anybody to rest by the fire that was used to burn a man alive. Not to mention aggressive toward the student, yes revenge doesn't make you evil, but it definitely doesn't make you any better than them. As well as the breaking mannequin fingers which even those who played the game admit is strange for a kid to do. I also never said she had to be kind, kind is letting the students live rather than smashing there heads which Mono does throughout the game. I get where you are coming from but don't randomly call strangers idiots just for making points that have occur throughout the game.

    • @IhateIsrahell
      @IhateIsrahell 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The C theory is really close to being a fact, and it actually could be. I’ve gathered a LOT of proof (if you wanna hear about it, because I’m too lazy to type it. If you wanna hear the proof, ask).
      Answer A is 100% false. The thin man is an old man and mono is a 10 year old child. The thin man went through puberty, wrinkles, and deformities since he was in the signal tower. There was no way six could’ve known that mono is the thin man.
      Answer B is 100% false. If six was hungry, she would’ve shown it, and she’d be slowed down a lot. Even if she was hungry, she literally dropped mono into oblivion, meaning he would’ve literally died either way, or fell into an even worse fate. If she really wanted to let him live, she would’ve sacrificed herself by dropping herself into the abyss. So the answer is C. She could’ve also been “controlled” by her shadow form, but that isn’t little nightmares style. The developers love adding the most powerful plot twists, like this one.

    I find it fascinating how your reading implies that as horrifying as their world is, as logical as a cynical attitude seems, the answer was still mercy and kindness.
    This is defintiively a lot, lot more deep than I expected. Not just because I didn't realize the scope of the depiction of society (on my first viewing all these things seemed disjointed), but also mainly because of the angle Six's actions bring. I found myself thinking this extremely dystopian (if not slightly caricatural) society, while highly discomforting and thought-provoking, is a bit tired and cliché. But then Six's response to it all as you read it, is what really elevates it and puts a truly interesting spin on, because it deals with how we should respond to such a cruel world. How giving into the understandable anger may paradoxically only let the world spin the same way. And the general idea that ultimately, humans will always rebel eventually against an attempt to pin them down. I'm believer in that the human spirit can never be completely boxed in.

    There's something super majestic about you saying "I am Grant of Treesicle."
    This is my first time seeing the new intro, it's glorious. Wonderful job, Team Treesicle!
    Edit: Perhaps the tally marks are made by Six or Mono, counting the days they've been surviving in this world, or how many kids the Thin Man has taken?
    I see Six going from the right of the game world and going into hiding all the way to the left, where Mono finds her. Perhaps she asked the Hunter to keep her hidden in his house, away from the TVs so neither of them would turn into Viewers? I have twice as many questions as I do theories!
    I don't want to make a Seven Deadly Sins comparison, but we've got Gluttony, Vanity and Wrath so far... maybe Sloth too, 'cause a lot of people are sitting around watching TV and forgetting their everyday lives.
    Since Mono is the Thin Man, could Six and the Geisha be the same person? There might be a recurring Kill Your Older Self thing happening!
