looks pretty tight given the age. ! ps.. i can recommend meguiars super degreaser 1:5 mix. in luke warm water and a nylon brush. figure 8 motion to agitate. and then blast off with a pressure washer!

Are you sticking with the 8V Engine or are you going to go 16v or 1.8T - Suprising how quickly costs rack up when it comes to buying gaskets and seals etc, having recently taken on a R53 Mini.
