It is worth mentioning the Bless-ton deck type. Using the survivor Covenant to stop Blesses from rolling over means that Preston can draw a Bless and just pass a difficulty 3 test. Do this often enough and Preston effectively becomes a very rich 3/3/3/3 investigator.
I can't believe I watched this video and there was NO mention of hunting jacket. My hand is now forces RI I now banish you into the hunting jacket. For your transgressions you will remain in the jacket for 1000 years gaining me a 1 resource every turn. A card effect so powerful that it costs 2 exp.
One of my favorite cards to tech in for Preston is elaborate distraction. If you have a lot of acolytes in a campaign, you can often times snipe them, and the 3 cost, while difficult for some investigators, is nothing to Preston.
Why do your Dark Horse decks never seem to actually include Dark Horse? Both this guy and I think Darrel were shown off without it. Was that you recognizing that Dark Horse doesn’t actually lend that much value as a card, or forgetting the obvious card in the deck?
Dark Horse was what started the archetype, and when other cards that benefitted from having no money were introduced, the archetype grew to where it was still considered Dark Horse even without the card.
@cool, I understand that. Is it not worth having a copy in here even if it mostly just comes down to being +1 book on mariner’s compass tests? Sure it costs 3, but for Preston, it kind of doesn’t.
@@hammerdall William pretty much explained my take perfectly. Dark Horse as a slotless book boost isn't terrible and could fit into the deck. For most characters the economy cost of actually playing Dark Horse is a bit prohibitive for what it offers, but Preston can get past that. I'd be looking harder at it if I were flex since the 2nd axe swing being at 6 instead of 5 is fairly major imo.
the last campaign i played (web of dreams) was a dark horse flex preston on a skeleton key in 2p, and ... yeah, the action tax is gnarly, especially in 2p, but it sure wasn't shitty. in no turning back i spent a lot a lot of actions carrying the key over to almost every location, but it still payed out. you kinda are forced into LdL to handle the actions needed, but it felt like a viable include, especially if youre (as opposed to RI here) run backpacks.
@Fogshaper I see. I was thinking of combing it with pilfer, double double, lola santiago and other cards to offset the action costs. Although that will mean the deck would need good drawing power which Preston seems to be okay but not great at.
@@Paintpenetrator The 1-2-Punch with Lola and the Key was the main reason that sold me on it. I had Lola in the deck anyways, I had Backpack (2) in the deck anyways, and the line they provided was very good. I think that Pilfer is a cool idea, but I'm not so sure if it's best in Preston. Needing to get down the key and then probably still needing to invest some resources from your Streetwise or having to fire your Well Connected is a pretty long line of stuff that comes together. I do think that the selling point of Lola + Skeleton Key is sick enough to put it into your deck without needing much more to midigate the action cost. I think a Leo de Luca helps tremendously with the Key. I don't hate Pifler at all, if you have the slots in your deck for them I'm sure you can make the Pilfer work.
Oooo yiis my guy! Great video i loved it very much. I got 2 questions, i dont play taboo so what do you think about adding drawing thin in a level 0 deck? And do you think preston can carry his cluver game in a 2 person game if the other investigator is pure fighter?
@@moonce1237 Preston can absolutely main clue. I've seen it done twice now in 3 player with a flex or secondary cluever that felt largely unnecessary. Drawing Thin is very good in Preston and I've run it before. Without taboo, I'd almost certainly run it.
It's not 100% reliable with the nerfs to it since you can no longer Double Double it. The gist is that once you get most of your assets into play, you'll be left with a ~24 card deck + hand. With an 8 card hand, that leaves a rotating 16 cards. Black Markets cover 10/16 cards in that cycle, and the rest needs to be drawn manually with actions / Easy Marks / Rabbit's Feet. Before taboo it was very easy to do 100% of the time. Now it's just a much higher rate of play than it should be, but it's not actually 100% of turns anymore.

I am really missing Eye of the Djinn. It really negates your bad mythosphase. You can also try blessed Preston while you're on it, it's fun.
@@sevento7 Eye of Djinn can't be used during mythos phase :(
@@RatherIncoherent well oops, still good

wonder Preston's skeleton key can become viable with 4 player counter or it just takes too many actions to be viable.

I'm having trouble understanding how you say you are able to play Black Market every turn. Can you clarify how you do that?

@RatherIncoherent Ah, I see. More of an endgame pattern instead of the "Black Market from turn 1 to get set up" thing I thought. Thanks!
