You can really sense the optimism of that era when you watch films like this.

    When Britain was great

What are we known for now.
I was inspired as a child growing up, Thunderbirds, Lightning, Vulcan, QE2, Concorde, SRN4, what else lay in the future.
Well as i started work in the forging industry (to provide the cash to train as a commercial pilot) i could see British industry starved of cash and slowly going down hill.
Now we are a warehouse country, Napoleon was right, shop keepers.

It seemingly wasn't a good idea to have a combe over in those days.

If only they had converted them to Diesel, they could still have been competitive today.

Or take the Stena Discovery but it sailed from Harwich to Hoek van Holland vice verca, but these too became too expensive due to fuel consumption, if you still want to enjoy a sea trip across the Channel, take the DFDS ferry from Dunkirk, 2.5 hours enjoy the view, huh what view? ha ha ha only water but I always thought it was a great crossing except to experience once with wind force 9 to 10 and is definitely not recommended, ha ha ha

£7 pounds return.. bring them back. I'm sure Sean Connery would agree when filming diamonds are forever.

Only because it was heavily subsidized by the taxpayer, both through development support and through British Rail's operation. Just like the Concorde.

He was never anywhere near the thing. There was just a single wildtrack of the hovercraft department which a second unit filmed without permission. There was no way Connery would have taken the risk of having his Vodka Martini shhaken, shturrred, and splaasshhhed all down his best Aushhhtin Reed.
