  • What is the degree of a vertex? We go over it in this math lesson! In a graph, vertices are often connected to other vertices. Let's say we have a vertex called V. Then, the degree of V, denoted deg(V) or deg V, is the number of edges incident with V. This is equal to the number of vertices adjacent to V. So let's say V is joined by 3 edges to 3 other vertices. Then deg V = 3 because V is incident with 3 edges, or equivalently, V is adjacent to 3 vertices.

I understand degree of a graph, what do they mean when we are asked to find δG(v) meaning the minimum degree of G in v? I don't understand, I saw it in a textbook and it's giving me troubles

I would imagine that the term "minimum degree" refers to the smallest number of edges a vertex has out of all of the vertices in a graph. For instance, imagine a graph has three vertices with degrees 4, 7 and 5, respectively. The minimum degree of that graph would be 4.

can you tell about degree for a directed graph. that would be very helpful.

Thanks for watching and sure thing! I'll record a lesson on indegree and outdegree soon, and I believe I explain them briefly in this lesson: th-cam.com/video/mXoiHgH4mEE/w-d-xo.html
