- In the intricate and oppressive world of Apple TV plus' "Silo," the tragic demise of Hanna Nichols, mother to protagonist Juliette Nichols, has been a focal point of both the narrative and fan speculation. While the series portrays Hanna's death as a suicide following the destruction of her unauthorized magnifying device, a compelling theory suggests that Judge Mary Meadows, the head of Judicial, played a pivotal role in orchestrating events leading to Hanna's untimely end. Hanna Nichols was a skilled surgeon residing in Silo 18. Born to Frank and Joyce Haslam on October 25, Year 83 AR, she pursued a medical career, eventually marrying pediatrician Pete Nichols. The couple had two children: Juliette and Jacob. Tragically, Jacob was born with a congenital heart defect, leading to his death at the age of eleven.
Devastated by her son's passing, Hanna channeled her grief into a quest to prevent similar tragedies. She clandestinely constructed a high-powered magnifying device, aiming to perform intricate surgical procedures that were otherwise impossible within the Silo's technological constraints. However, such devices were deemed illegal under the Pact, the governing set of rules within the Silo.
Judge Mary Meadows serves as the authoritative figurehead of Judicial, the body responsible for upholding the Pact and maintaining order within the Silo. Initially a member of the IT Department and Bernard Holland's shadow, Meadows transitioned to Judicial, eventually rising to the position of Judge. Her tenure is marked by strict adherence to the Pact and a zero-tolerance approach toward dissent and unauthorized technological advancements.

Are you innocent of a crime just because you "merely followed orders?"
I think you misread Meadows. When she was shadow to Bernard she found the Quinn hd. Decoded the message. (didn't tell Bernard) Checked out the tunnel and talked to the Algorithm. It confirmed what Quinn wrote about there being 50 silos, only one would be chosen. So she quit. Went to work in Judicial, made her way to Judge and ended up where that safeguard pipe is.
That's what we know. She's brilliant. IT said she had the brightest mind. It's how she got to be Bernard's shadow. Access to the vault and legacy.
Now we have Jules mom. Brilliant. She has knowledge others don't. And kids she wasn't supposed to have. I think that she was one of the flamekeepers. all those relics under glass will be used by Jules to build something I believe. A drone. hot air balloons , some fans for propulsion and guidance, a camera to see , a radio to send signals, an etch a sketch for a remote, (wonder if there's actually a legacy tablet in there or something similar they built from scrap?) and that pez dispenser will be the joystick with the drop payload button under the duck's head like a safety on a missile launch stick. Jules will assemble and fly a drone to drop a bomb on Silo 1 :) Using the map in Silo 17 painting to find it. How cool would that be to see her flick the duck head up and press down a button to free them all?
Thanks for this
Meadows made no decisions…she just paperwork that Bernard wanted her to sign…
