I love turning on SAW2 on shuffle before I go to sleep because you never know which song you'll wake up to. Sometimes I woke up in a pure horror and man what an experience it is! That's my favourite album by Richard too and I kinda believe that stone in focus is the greatest piece of music EVER created because it never fails to amaze me how he packed so much emotion in such a simple melody. Just mindblowingly amazing
I Care Because You Do is an album that surprises me every time I come back to it. The tracks may seem quite simple at first listen, but the album is incredibly deep. There's so much more beneath the surface than I initially realized.
I have it on vinyl, and when Cow Cud Is A Twin came on and Richard yelled "alright!" My dad jumped and thought someone was yelling outside. It just shows aphex twins amazing sound design. And the album was made in the 90s!
WE'RE GONNA NEED A RADIOHEAD WORST TO BEST ASAP Hey Smags, during your reaction of Beach House's Bloom, you said at 9:00 you would do a Minecraft lets-play if the video got 300 likes. The video has 888 likes, yet for some reason I can't seem to find your Minecraft let's play (I would also accept a reaction/review of Hot Fuss from the Killers
The craziest part is how small of a fraction of his overall discography is the albums. You could include everything else and I bet this video would be at least an hour long, if not 2. AFX, Mike & Rich, The Tuss, the SoundCloud dump, the DJ sets. Man made so much music and made most of it completely inaccessible to the average fan. It’s ballsy but I sort of respect it.
i used to have mild short sleep paralysis pretty regularly, but the only time ive experienced it in the last few years was when i fell asleep high during my first listen of icbyd. when i ""woke up"" (yk, sleep paralysis) it was around 4 am, and ventolin was playing, which gave me the overwhelming feeling that i was being stabbed. i vividly remember gaining control of my neck and shaking my head back and fourth until i was just awake enough to open my eyes and desperately scramble out of bed to turn off the song. upon relistens, i actually like ventolin a lot if im honest edit: bucephalous bouncing ball is top 1 and probably my favorite song of all time, also funny little man is hillarious, both deserve better rankings imho
I did 7 backflips when I saw the title of this video. Also the reason for some of the song titles in ICBYD is that they are anagrams for “Aphex Twin” or “Richard D James”.
you are the man a few recommendations: songs - Adrianne Lenker (folk, singer-songwriter) Ghosts of the Great Highway - Sun Kil Moon (folk rock, singer-songwriter, alt-country) SMILE :D - Porter Robinson (pop-punk, pop, electronic) Process - Sampha (experimental r&b, great production) Hypochondriac - Brakence (very experimental emo rap, glitch pop) Reading Writing And Arithmetic - The Sundays (the smiths ish, with beautiful female vocals)
A new worst to best series AND it's on Aphex Twin? Hell yeah! Loved this. You should definitely peak into the rabbit hole that is his extended discography at some point.
Unexpected Windman in the wild! :) Btw maybe not the best place to ask but are you too planning on doing more worst to best videos after the extensive Aphex Twin one?
@wartortle5151 No way I'm being recognized in the wild. That's crazy! Anyway, maybe some time in the future. However, I wanna do those for artists/bands with big and interesting discographies, so it would be a very long video series like the Aphex Twin one. I'm trying to not pick up multi-hour long projects at the moment though so it won't be any time soon.
@@windman808 Thanks for the reply! Take your time for sure! I'd recommend Autechre or Four Tet for artists with huge discographies, but do what you wanna do! Btw just wanted to say that the Aphex Twin one is one of my favourite video series on this platform, I return to it pretty often because it's funny af and it was my main source of getting into Richard's more obscure stuff. And yeah, you've officially made it ;)
I agree with literally every take on this video. I bought the SAW II Expanded Edition Vinyl a couple months back. I still haven’t been able to experience it because I’ve been off at college and I didn’t bring my record player to campus. BUT… I leave to go home for winter break in a couple days and this video makes me want to leave sooner 😅 Keep making these types of ranking videos. I thoroughly enjoyed❤️
Loved this dive through the Aphex Twin disco. (Although you did't mention the Windolicker EP which was my gateway to his music) Would love to see more of these videos!
You’re missing my favorite Aphex Twin “album” the 2x12 Ventolin EP. Skip the title track and listen to the rest of an amazing record. Make sure you find the full album and not just the single 6 song version.
You NEED to check out the growlers! I think you’d absolutely love them. They’re my favorite band and they made their own genre called “beach goth” you should check out their album Chinese fountain.
The b-sides of come to daddy are among the most prettiest Aphex twin songs I’ve ever heard. It’s a shame that they didn’t end up on the record. 28 organ is still my favorite Aphex twin song
I'd love to see more of this. Also I'm thankful you actually like drukqs because it's a very personal album to me and i was kinda afraid you didnt like it in your reaction LOL
At least we still got more EPs and Albums by Aphex Twin, HE HASNT REACTED TO WINDOWLICKER YET! Have you reacted to the Come To Daddy Music Video Yet? If not then do that FOR DA TH-cam
Syro wasn't created on a DAW. The sequencer used is mostly a Cirklon, and he programs everything to the 10th millisecond. The kinds of thinks he is able to do, the subtlety and complexity, without a DAW is mind-blowing. The album is much deeper than its first impression.
Hey Smags, recent viewer of yours here. Knowing how much you seem to love electronic music, and idm/ambient in particular, please consider doing a reaction to The Ineffable Truth by G Jones. He takes inspiration from Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Flying Lotus, Eprom, etc. and warps that idm sound into modern rave bangers. If you have never heard experimental bass music before, I think this album surpasses anything within that label by leaps and bounds. Definitely a must hear for music production nerds. Hope you've been doing alright! Keep up the great content, man.
Watching this video just makes you realise that Aphex twin is one of the greatest artists of the past 30 years easily. His creativity is genuinely genius and irreplaceable.
the re- release of ambient works vol 2 finally sees th1 (evnslower) get an official release for the first time ever a mythical track that 30 years have passed since it was made.
Great ranking (i have never listened to aphex twin)! You'd really enjoy Just For A Day by Slowdive. It's the first record they and arguably sounds sadder than Souvlaki
Number 1, best album ever made! Aphex the goat!! You gotta check out The Tuss - Rushup Edge, an acid breaks album he dropped in 2007 under the twin moniker, Brian and Karen Tregaskin. Legit some of the most intricate song writing and has some of the most in depth, bustling progressions hes ever came up with. Syro on SWOLE mode! Give it a listen bro 😎😎

My second favourite after SAW 2

Have yall heard Analord? Its my favorite Aphex because its more Autechre-ish, the gold standard for IDM imo
Also The Tuss is amazing
icbyd is my fav aphex project. The unreleased bonus track Sekonda might be my fav aphex track

Don't think he's done TKOL or Pablo Honey yet. TKOL is actually one of my fav Radiohead albums
I'm sorry potato44_ but you're talking crazy rn
@@ZakTheGuyyourentalkin crazy tkol is PEAK try actually liking it instead of hating brah
