I miss the old format where you would actually show the cards on the screen when you play them that was actually one of my favorite things about this show, other than the commentary and the sassiness you guys have built up with each other
I don't necessarily mind the change, but they certainly don't leave the cards up for long enough now. I had to pause the video almost every time a card was played just so I could read it.
I could see that being a guest spot, but I think he’s really reprioritised his life around family and I’m happy for him. If he wants to be a guest if someone is away I hope that works for him. These things take a lot of time to produce though even when you’re not doing the role he was filling before.
@@MrJuzam that kills me too. Love the social dynamic of these guys but damn, stuff like that and the adding colors to decks. My playgroup doesn't play like that. So those episodes don't do it for us. Just glad others like them
Quite sad about the same commander thing, I was hyped to see the Kamigawa legendaries and you picked the same one that is quite broken. Also I think you should show the commanders when talking about them on the opening, it feels the show is rushing itself and losing part of what made it cool.
I've wanted to do Shrines for a while and the moment i saw Go-Shintai of Life's Origin i immediately felt that compelling urge once again. I'm here for it! Love you guys, and GOOD game
Ever since SCG made changes to their video formats, these episodes feel a lot more soulless. Commander VS was always more a show about friends playing commander, but now it just feels like a thing everyone has to put out once a week whether they want to or not (see the episode where Jon could barely even play because he had to leave, so the game was super rushed) I love the guys, but the magic of these episodes feels lost as of late
Agreed. I miss how they don't showcase the commanders on the screen during the intros, they don't do deck techs anymore to the extent they did, and recently they have not posted deck lists. It's not a big deal to have to look the commanders up online, but why remove something that was a staple of your show for seasons? Why make your audience look something up when there is no need to. Just getting sloppy tbh. It used to feel like a sporting event that I was excited to watch every week. Tuning in to see if Team Green will keep the lead or if John will rack up enough points to make it to 2nd. Putting the score at the end feels cheap. They have created a fundamentally different show that operates based off of a point system making it a unique and a competitive experience, it helps explain some of their actions/antics in the game. Why would you cast that aside and put it at the end as an after thought? You established yourselves by making this a seasonal show following a ranking system and the points come as an after thought makes no sense. Just get rid of the points all together if you are not going to use the model you created to create competition and roll 2 D6 to see who goes first each week. The state of the show now feels like, hey we had some time this week and we found some cards, lets get into the game. It's uninspired. Hell even when they did virtual the quality of the show was better than what we are getting now. They would do funny intros of Green de-decorating his room to purposefully make it a blank space, he had his biggest "FAN" that cheered him on and they would talk about their decks in detail while showing us the cards on screen. Sure we have the bell now, but that doesn't make up for the lack of quality of life aspects they have removed from the show. @Jonah Coffman I love this game and the boys have done a great job overall, but the quality is slipping. It has very little to do with burn out and more to do with being frustrated at the quality of the show. They created a standard and more importantly an experience for players to come back and watch by creating rivalries using a point system and teaching about the cards/interactions. Currently it is not living up to their previous standards or experiences.
I disagree completely. This one specific episode might have been a bit different since the power level of the decks were a bit off, but other than this one these last few commander vs have been a blast and the energy felt higher than normal IMO. Might just be because of Corey lol, but if he's making the games more fun more power to him I'd say.
@@robertbauerle5592 I absolutely agree. Compared to the webcam era the group dynamic has become so much better again since they returned to the studio. Also Corey fits in very well. While this episode was a bit unfortunate in terms of deck composition, and I also do miss the deck techs in the beginning, I don't think the overall quality of the show is going down. Rather it does feel like they're genuinely enjoying themselves playing magic again, which I'm really happy about.
I'm always excited to watch a new episode, but after about 10 minutes it became unbearable to watch. I would have much rather watched a 1 v 1 game of Justin and Stephen, at least they were playing different decks. Really disappointed in this episode.
I usually don't comment about game play, but the fact that there were so many generals to choose from in this set, you guys chose 2 of the same deck, one of the most powerful I might add, and just ran away with the game. 30 minutes? Come on. There could have been at least another game. 😮💨
Not only that, they both picked the one that I would very much not like to watch. It’s just dumb. It’s not good when wotc designs a card to fill a space, especially 5 color, and they inevitably push it to the moon. This one’s particularly, ridiculously obnoxious.
Even tho they made more shrine tokens then they were supposed from thinking it was any enchantment it really wouldn’t have changed much only cause John made I believe 1 extra token so it really wouldn’t have slowed him down at all so even tho a mistake I don’t think it would have changed who would have one
15 minutes in and Jon and Corey are just playing the same stuff -_-. Ive been a big defender of the show since Corey came on even though things seem different. However, this honestly just seems low effort. Guys please try and find a way to enjoy the show and go back to the roots of fun and enjoyment of playing together with cool and thoughtful decks.
He did get them body bags. But he did also read his commander wrong and broke the rules almost every turn of the game. He made a Shrine creature token for each enchantment that he played. The commander states you only make a Shrine creature when you play a Shrine.
Yep. I’ve seen two games with him and both have had the player get knocked out first and never really get to use Her because she just gets killed right away.
At first they played it correctly, then corey plays 2 land-enchantment and jon goes: "you get 2 more bears(shrines) from these" and since then they made shrines for every enchantment.
This was extremely painful to watch... I feel so bad for Jeremy and Steven for having to sit through that and watch Corey and Jon go off while they couldn't do anything
Ah yes, the real win-con of enchantress decks: destroy your opponents will to play the game. Even though this was mostly a 2 player game, everyone had good energy which made it pretty fun to watch.
I feel like this episode is getting too much hate. Making mistakes is part of commander, or really just magic in general. Taking this format too seriously is what makes it not work. We're all here to have fun!
This wasn't just making mistakes, this was completely playing your COMMANDER incorrectly. They had to copies of the same commander yet no one actually decided to read the card? Yes mistakes happen, but when an entire game is based on two people having no idea what they are doing AND playing such a strong commander it makes for a very poor presentation. I feel bad for Jeremy and Stephen as they are the only reasons I watch this show.
@@kellystoller7225 It stemmed from one simple mistake that was not corrected. They misunderstood the card and thought it counted all enchantments and not just shrines. They just didn't correct themselves. This is a lot more common to happen with new cards since there was no one in the game that was familiar with the card to correct them.
Corey is a light-hearted person by nature, and commander is a free spirited and completely casual format. Easy dislike. This episode was completely botched. The same two uninteractive decks, giant misplay with the token generation, don't have the tokens to represent the correct boardstate.
I know they could’ve created they’re own tokens to accurately represent shrines, but to be fair the Shrine tokens are notoriously difficult to acquire and expensive due to a print run error from Wizards.
@@ZachtheUnbowed The tokens were the least bothersome, but if they can afford to play with dual lands and have their own custom tokens then not having some that would vaguely match their needs is not acceptable.
@@DarthTUK Most owners of dual lands (my guess would be SCG falls into this category considering how long they've been around) picked them up before they got crazy expensive. Already owning something expensive and being able to purchase multiple of a 25-30$ token (that will go down in price since in other regions there wasn't a print run error) is different, especially when it's just a token and being able to use anything to represent a token is literally in the rules of magic.
@@ZachtheUnbowed my main problem is the token misplays. Their commander does not state, whenever you play an enchantment make a Shrine creature token. However that is how they played it. It only makes a Shrine creature if you play a shrine.

bit of a shame. i love the content ussually but making shrines off non-shrines (yes its a new card, mistakes happen) but all in all i felt this episode was a let down. 2 of the same commander and while the decks did have varying things they still felt very samey because at the core its built around the commander. i hope they find their groove again because i really do love their content

Corey was probably remembering that you can foretell at instant speed during your turn, not the companion.
Go-shintai only makes shrines off of other shrines. Not all enchantments. Card says what it does on the card
