    I’m officially hooked-thanks a lot! 😊 Your expertise in backyard railroading is truly impressive, and I’ve been catching up on all your videos, both old and new. I’ve hit the subscribe button too!
    I’ve been thinking about building a backyard railroad for a while, particularly now to enjoy with my 5-year-old daughter. It seems like a wonderful opportunity to create lasting memories, much like the ones you’ve been making with your son.
    I’m sure I’ll have plenty of questions for you, starting with this: Was your main reason for choosing hard plastic ties over Accu Ties mainly due to shipping costs and economic considerations, or was there another reason? Seems for ease of installation the Accu Ties would be a better choice for a beginner, but then again you seemed to have done quite well for your build using the solid plastic ties.

      Hey, thanks for the kind words and we’re glad you’re into it!
      Ties: We went with solid plastic because we could pick them up, no shipping, and they have somewhat of a benefit with their weight. But all said and done, you’re right! The molded Accu-tie ties are the way to go, no question.

      @@awtractor9924 My railroad is more like a garden tram, but it is 7-1/2 inch gauge. I have somewhere around 100-120 feet of track that runs from the alley behind the house through the edge of my garden and up to the greenhouse. I have 3 short videos on my youtube channel about it. I don't have an engine, just a short flatcar that I use for moving stuff. I built it over the last spring and summer.

    So, you didn't end up using Accu tie for your rails and ties??

    • @minnesotaeerailroad8471
      @minnesotaeerailroad8471  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@followinghim5194 I had purchased the solid sticks of plastic and cut those to length, first. Then I bought Accurate-tie ties later and used both products. So every other tie on our layout is technically different. But if I had to do it again, I’d just go with 7 5/8 Accu-tie ties.
      Rail: I purchased Midwest Scale Rail namely because they were close enough for just a couple hour ride round trip. So I saved on shipping. But between the 2 styles of rail, I’m not sold that either one makes any real big difference, at least for our application.

    Which is better aluminum rails or steel rails?
    N what's the prices on them?

    • @minnesotaeerailroad8471
      @minnesotaeerailroad8471  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think they both have their pros and cons. For us, especially with our tight turns, aluminum is easier to work with when bending. Another thing is that our rail will wear faster than our steel wheels. Yeah, there’s probably a book that could be written on this subject. So I’d say for you to keep asking around. Also, it’d be an easier question to answer if we knew your details for what kind of layout you were able to do. As far as pricing, I haven’t looked lately. You’ll have to check the links in the description and shop around.

      I personally prefer to use flat steel bar rail on my garden railway, because I struggle with adhesion if the track is wet and sanding will rapidly wear away the softer Aluminium rails.
