    When you consider that most mattresses must be replaced every 8 to 10 years, and top quality costs a few thousand, there seems to be very good value here. For those that can afford it. And honestly, even a base level Hastens likely sleeps better than ANYTHING anyone else sleeps on!

  • @richardweyts8461

    Dear Goodbed, Great review, you got me convinced in getting one.
    I do have a question about the top mattress, I read many reviews that tell me that a topper is a trick of the industry to sell more products for beds. I also have seen on the price list of Hastens that it's possible to buy one without a topper.
    What is your recommendation?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi Richard -- Thanks for your question. I'm very glad to hear that this review was helpful for you! You are correct that you can certainly buy the Hastens mattress without the topper. And as we indicated in the video, it's actually surprisingly comfortable without it.
      That said, I think it's important to clarify that this bed is *intended* to be used with the topper -- which was the reason we were surprised that it would be at all comfortable without it. So while you can use it without the topper, you would be getting a very different feel from what we described in the video, and of course it would not have all of the same features and benefits. In short, the topper and the base unit are really designed to work together as a unit, which is why we showed it with the topper throughout the video.
      This is very different from the point you made in your comment about toppers being an unnecessary up-sell "trick." FWIW, our perspective on toppers is that in almost all cases (at least in the U.S.), a mattress *should* work perfectly for you without ever adding a topper. This means that for most mattresses, the only situations where you actually should buy a separate topper are: 1) you chose the wrong mattress for you and are just trying to make it work, or 2) you chose the right mattress but it has now worn down a bit and is no longer providing adequate pressure relief for you. So in that sense, we would normally agree with you that many people do get "tricked" into buying toppers for reasons other than these.
      The bottom line is that you certainly shouldn't be afraid of exploring the idea of getting a Hastens without the topper, and I'm sure you wouldn't be the first. It may turn out to work perfectly for you -- and if it doesn't, you can always add the topper later. I just wanted to you to understand that in this case the topper is really part of the mattress and IMHO it is not an example of a "trick" to sell you an unnecessary add-on.
      I hope that's helpful.

    You think is it good idea to buy hastens mattress topper by itself instead if buying the whole bed

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Darshil -- Thanks for your question. I'm afraid I don't have a well-informed answer to this since I have never tried or tested a Hastens topper in that fashion. That said, my instinct would be that it would depend a lot on what type of bed you were to put it on. I think if the Hastens topper were paired with a mattress that has very sturdy and firm pocketed coils with little to no foam padding on top, that would probably be the best way to approximate the feel of the full Hastens system.
      I hope that's helpful.

    I’ve heard that the parts of the bed need to be replaced, like the top mattress will wear out and Hastens recommends replacing it. So, if you can afford the mattress you shouldn’t mind spending a few thousand after a few years for a new top mattress. But, it’s something to think about if buying.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there -- Thanks for your comment. You are right that the "top mattress" would likely be replaced long before you'd ever consider replacing the base. That said, my understanding is that customers typically replace the "top mattress" after sometime between 10 and 25 years, so even this part of the mattress should last much longer than a typical mattress. Overall, the should last a long time, which is backed up with a 25 year warranty.
      Also, it's worth noting that even if the top mattress were to become a bit lumpy or settled in some areas, it can be brought back to life with a relatively simple "massage" process, which you can see performed here: th-cam.com/video/WoFUTzwOuY8/w-d-xo.html And before it even gets to that point, turning it one week and flipping it the next week (basically each time you change the sheets) should help a lot in avoiding the need for this.
      I hope that's helpful.

    Hello, There is nothing organic or natural about steel ? about the way it is processed, ( Virgin Steel ??? ) Coils are baked and coated in petro chemicals.. You are incorrect in many of your statements as far as this product is concerned.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi John -- Thanks for your comment. This was a nearly 40-minute review, and I am certainly not infallible, so I wouldn't put it past me to make a mistake. That said, I've gone back and listened to the parts of this video that I remember touching on this topic and don't see any information that appears incorrect. I certainly never said steel was natural or organic. In fact, when we discuss the lack of chemicals in this mattress, such as at 5:45, I explicitly exclude from that statement any chemicals that are used in making the steel: "Everything here is 100% natural, or at least doesn't involve chemicals to speak of, other than perhaps to the extent required to make steel, for example." Again at 25:33, in the natural materials section, I note that everything in this mattress is natural EXCEPT the steel.
      But more significantly, amongst our readers, the most common reason for buying a "natural" or "organic" mattress is health and safety, and avoiding harmful chemicals. To that end, it's important to note that the GOTS standard, the most respected international certification standard for certified numerous types of finished products as "organic" (including mattresses), does not believe that the presence of steel should be a cause for concern. They allow a finished product that includes steel to still be certified as an "organic" product overall. This is on account of the fact that steel is not considered to have substantial off-gassing or other safety concerns.
      Thanks again, and I hope that's helpful.

    • @naturelleorganicbeds2253
      @naturelleorganicbeds2253 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@goodbed Hi, Thank you for your promo reply, I just wanted to say that the Hastens Mattress itself is NOT certified GOTS, The cotton and wool maybe although there website doesn't list the GOTS certification, I know hastens isn't a truly organic product and they don't market it as such, But the use of word play can give the consumer a false measurement of organics. FYI: GOTS certifies the company or the cotton and wool content.
      When an organization or material the company is using the GOTS certification the actual certificate will display what GOTS is certifying. for example: Organic cotton or wool can be GOTS certified along with any natural Fibre as long as it passes testing, Foam or coils are Not GOTS Certifiable. And for there tufting are they using a certified organic cotton thread or a polyester thread ? again without the certification this is an unknown. I must also add your comment about Swedish Pine being more hard than North American pine isn't correct. as in the 1970's Swedish Forestry Group SCA started importing pine trees from North America, the reason for this was the high demand in the Swedish forestry sector they decided to import & plant North American Pine trees (Lodgepole pine) which grew faster than the Swedish Scots pine. there are comparable as far as hardness is concerned. there are softer pines but these 2 species fall in the hard category for pine trees.
      in closing you reply "Everything here is 100% natural, or at least doesn't involve chemicals to speak of, other than perhaps to the extent required to make steel, for example." Can not be verified other than thru certification's, which again are not displayed for confirmation on there web site. once can not make the statement 100% natural with out clear testing and certifications. So I would recommend re visiting this video and possibly updating certain information that is incorrect. All the best. John

      @@naturelleorganicbeds2253 Thanks for your follow-up John. Respectfully, I do have to wonder though whether you watched the entire video, as you seem to have missed where we explicitly make the point that this is *not* an organic mattress. We go on to explain that there is such a thing as an organic mattress, but that this requires additional certifications that this mattress does not have. We specifically point this out at 26:15 in the video, in the natural materials section, in order to make sure that there would be no confusion on this point amongst anyone for whom natural materials are an important consideration.
      As for my stating that the remainder of the mattress (besides the steel) is "natural," it seems patently obvious that horsetail, wool, cotton, flax, and wood are 100% natural materials -- not synthetic. Of course, I am always careful how I use the word "organic," because this is certainly a higher standard, for which I completely agree that a certification is required. But to call these particular materials "natural" is simply factual.
      Just to be clear, I am not trying to sell Hastens beds -- in fact, if you watch any of our other reviews, you will see that we are probably the only independent source of mattress information that is NOT trying to sell those mattresses. We have no stake in this product, and in fact we have no advertising relationship with Hastens at all.
      That said, I do take our trustworthiness and credibility very, very seriously. So while I wholeheartedly welcome any corrections that feel like a valuable service to our readers, I hope you'll pardon me if I'm a bit defensive when it comes to any attacks on our veracity that do not appear to be justified.

      @@goodbed Hi Yes I Did watch the entire video. and I am aware you are not selling hastens mattresses, I Think they have a great product, and I'm sorry I don't understand why you are getting defensive? I am trying to help you As I find so much misinformation which causes confusion amongst consumers. Im not sure if you understand the difference between 100% Natural; and the word natural? you claim wool cotton and flax is 100% Natural, again that is not necessarily true. there can be chemicals in the processing that makes the cotton harmful, again without the proper certifications you can not make that statement of 100% natural . Thats all ! I hope you finally realize what I am trying to say. If you ask Hastens for a copy of there GOTS and chemical testing certificates you will see the percentages and Certifications I'm certain you will realize what I am talking about. thanks again no hard feelings all the best to you. John ;)

      @@naturelleorganicbeds2253 Thanks John. No hard feelings at all, and again I do appreciate and welcome constructive feedback on our reviews.
      I think we need to agree to disagree on your point about certifications though. The GOTS standard is to determine whether a product can be called "organic" -- NOT whether it can be called "natural." The percent natural is only one (of many) criteria that goes into meeting the GOTS standard to be called "organic," which is one reason why so few mattress brands can or do obtain the GOTS certification. AFAIK there is no lower tier of the GOTS certification that can be used by products that are mostly natural, but not organic, like this one.
      That said, I do think we're in full agreement on the most important point here, which is that as we stated in our review, although this mattress uses mostly natural materials, it is NOT an organic mattress.
      Thanks again for your comments.

    Just do to the reminder of comments says You're Expecting many people to wonder where is $40,000 coming from? Goat hair and horse hair are not that expensive I guess unless you're getting it from a unicorn those prices are just absurd! I spent a few nights on one of the lower end ridiculously expensive mattresses and I must say yes they are comfortable but not worth a high-end sports car that's for sure

      Hi Dave -- Thanks for your comment. I would certainly not question the importance and value that you or others may place on a high-end sports car. In the same way though, I would never question the value that someone puts on a high-end mattress -- or a good night's sleep, for that matter. In other words, to each his/her own...
      Regarding the cost of the materials, just to clarify, it's horse *tail*, not horse hair.

      That’s the price of a sporty car. Nowhere near a real sports car. I think sleeping is way more important as you do that 6-8 hours per day. And even on a busy day you won’t be more then 4-6 hours in your car for probably only 2 days of the week. The rest of the week you only use your car 2-3 hours per day max.

      What hign-end sports car can be passed down to your grandchildren?

      Something like the Hastens is just a whole different league. It's as much about the hand-craftsmanship and legacy as it is about sleeping. So from our perspective, it's just not an apples to apples comparison. It's a little like having a suit custom made to perfectly fit your body compared to buying one off the rack. With a Hastens, it's made just for you.

      Hi Jacob -- Thanks for your feedback. FYI, for those people who would prefer a brief overview, we do provide a concise summary at the end of every video review. You can use the chapter headings we provide in the description to skip directly to that summary, or to any other sections that are of particular interest or importance to you.
      More generally, we have experimented with shorter formats, however in most cases have found that we are short-changing those viewers who are giving their purchase serious consideration and want to see the characteristics and features of the mattress evaluated fairly and comprehensively. This actually tends to be particularly true for more expensive mattresses such as Hästens. Nonetheless, I would offer my most sincere congratulations to you for being amongst the fewest of the few who can afford to buy a $35-40K mattress on a whim!!
      I hope that's helpful, and thanks again for your feedback.
