    The shock blew up last time because the pressure in the negative chamber wasn’t released, it was “sucked down”. You can see that the condition exists in the previous video when you release the air pressure and the shock contracted, it sucked the eyelet end in. You need to cycle the shock after, or while, letting the air out.

    I'm impressed how Macky can do the same face every time at the beginning when saying "Macky is on the camera".

    I'll help you with why you may need volume spacers. Like me, you've gotten older and enjoy maybe more beers than miles than you use to; A six pack is good, 12 pack, well....and a full keg? you probably, maybe, need some volume spacers. Or...maybe your just the ROCK.....Thanks for the VIDS.

    This video just proved very handy on 10/11/22! Thank you two very much for the quick and easy to understand tutorials! I've always ridden the Float X2, but have recently discovered how much more supportive the Float X is for me as a heavy (260lbs) rider! The ability to air up to 350psi and fine tune the progression makes this a great option for me!

    I really enjoy your videos on both channels. Two things to add for this process. I would clean the bike before you take your shock apart. You don’t want any dust or dirt to fall in as you’re opening it. I can see your bike was already clean. Also when pumping up the shock at the end of the process you should be cycling the shock every once in a while to equalize the air chambers.

      I believe Fox recommends cycling the suspension 10 times or so every 50psi you add.

    If you're a constant tuner. Fox do an ava shock. Let out the pressure. Twist the external screw adjuster. Re pump.
    Less than a minute tune...handy, if you want to change the bike for specific trails regularly. (And while on the trail too)

    Is this process different if you have a piggyback with IFP? I’ve been hesitant to do anything with my shock myself as I know the piggyback adds complexity.

    • @chrispemberton4931
      @chrispemberton4931 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s the same. Just make sure the gap in the plastic spacer lines up with the air valve. It will make sense when u look in the shock.

      Sorry that’s for rockshox. I don’t think u need to line the gaps up with the air valve for fox. Plenty of vids on you tube. The piggyback part doesn’t add any complexity for the volume spacer.

  • @geemail369

    The easiest way i found to get a grasp of token physics myself is compressing a plastic bottle - the more air within _(empty bottle)_ is replaced with water the harder it is to compress FURTHER.

    hey guys! great content as usual, one question: i'm a big boi (190cm x 95kg), my bike is a 29" hardcore hardtail with 160 yari ultimate (RC2 damper) and I ride pretty aggressively, alpine trails mostly, since I live next to the western Alps. with 1 token and 25% sag I can only ever use 75% of the fork travel, and my hands are not that happy on our rougher trails. with zero token and same sag I bottom out while bunny hopping. to prevent that I'm now using 25psi more than recommended for my weight, sag is around 15-17%, so I can reach almost full travel on bigger drops (say huck to flat) and the overall ride quality has improved. is this ok, or should I try half token and 20% sag? is linear better or worse than progressive?

    • @sydfixesbikes
      @sydfixesbikes  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's personal preference. If you're happy with how it feels, no reason to change it. The benefit of progressive is that you can have better small bump compliance and still avoid bottoming out.

    So it's like preload on a coil shock?

  • @AGKRex
    @AGKRex 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Okay, so I am not a small dude but I love riding (On a fitness "journey"). So say you and Macky are on the same bike. Do you think that a coil would be better for the ride and my bike?

    • @sydfixesbikes
      @sydfixesbikes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not necessarily. Coil tends to be more consistent throughout the stroke, but most suspension designs nowadays are designed for air shocks so they have a falling curve near the end of the travel (where an air shock would start ramping up) to give the feel of consistent movement throughout the travel. So it won't make any difference for the bike.
      Coil shocks also tend to have better small bump compliance (less stiction) so feel better on small bumps, but are more prone to pedal bob. And they weigh more. So really depends what you like and what your goals are.

    • @AGKRex
      @AGKRex 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sydfixesbikes thanks! One of my concerns about the coil shocks and being a big dude is turning my bike into a pogo stick. Not that I could find one to buy this year!

    • @sydfixesbikes
      @sydfixesbikes  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Coil shocks still have the same damping as air shocks (rebound and compression) so you should be able to see it up to rebound similarly and avoid any pogo-ing!

    He might be bothering out but you're getting a smooth ride.... To put in a spacer makes the travel shorter but it also stiffens your ride... So you're getting away from the whole idea why you have a shock in the 1st place... The true real answer is a more lengthy shock But that is not practical. So in my mind the answer to this problem is a problem in and of itself Just saying

    • @sydfixesbikes

      Adding a spacer does not change the travel.
