I'd appreciate an in depth video of how you got your AC system set up in the XJ. Just how you made it work with the passat bracket and what has to be don with the turbo and what not.
@@TDISwap Yeah I have to have it where I am at. Figuring out how to properly set up AC is the last thing I need to figure out before I begin the project.
Have you ever considered doing these swaps for a commission? I’m sure there’s plenty of people wanting to Tdi Swap their jeeps and forerunners that just don’t have the skill to do it themselves.
I have a very good friend that recently did a swap in a 4Runner with an OM617. He took his time, and it was roughly a year. He only charged $50 per hour for his time and kept impeccable records for time spent. When he was done, and he told me he only charged $50 per hour, we both agreed that it was too low for the custom work that he was doing (welding, machining, wiring, etc). His reply was that he wanted to get his name out there, but wouldn't do it again at that price point. I've thought about it. I'm retired, and have the time to do it, but taking into consideration the costs associated with the time it takes to do it right, most folks would want to shy away from it. Most folks that do these swaps are "frugal" with their money, and don't feel like paying for a product is in their best interest financially. As an example, my quote from Slow Backwards was for roughly $1,000 to send him my harness, for him to strip down. SO barely any consumables. I priced out all new connectors, wiring, and consumables for $175 from AliExpress (take it with a grain of salt that they come from China, but they do work). So he charges 140% increase to use your parts compared to what it would cost to make an all new custom harness. So say most folks spend 8-10K per swap for everything. Let's go with a 50% increase, that's a 12-15K price. Granted that's taking into account the TDI car, adapters, tune, etc. So for most, it's not worth it.
@@TDISwapyeah that makes sense. I’m planning on doing an MTDI build with an ALH and was curious what the costs would be. No wiring harness or tunes. Might try it in my garage
@@turnerables realize with MTDI you need to do rods. You can bend the ALH rods since you can't control torque down low with the eTDI "rod saver" tune. As far as costs, I have no clue. The mTDI pump will be costly to find.

It's totally worth it to have AC. The CJ isn't as big of a deal, but the XJ is much more important. I can freeze myself out of it, so that's a plus.
