It took me some time to find a video that provided as much instruction and detail as yours has! I have two of the Xikar Trezo and both have the exact same issue. I think I will be able to repair them now that I have seen your video. Thank you and I hope you are still repairing lighters. Great job!
I just watched many videos on this topic, butane lighter maintenance for soft and jet flame styles, and I must say THIS VIDEO IS THE BEST ONE due to it's organization, delivery, and comprehensiveness of information. Very helpful indeed! Thank you!
I have been fighting with this lighter for months, and followed all the standard troubleshooting, but this is the video that finally had the information I needed!
Great how-to video! I was able to fix my butane lighter. After I filled it, it wouldn't ignite so I bled it a few times. Still no dice. Your video showed me how to take my lighter apart and make a slight adjustment to the flame adjuster and VOILA! It works! Thanks again!
I know you posted this vid a while ago but i just wanna say a great thanks to you! after a year of my lighter not working and every solution tested, in only 10min i figured out what was wrong and i fixed it! thanks a lot!
Thank you so much! By removing the rubber and metal rings from the flame adjuster, I was able to completely repair a lighter that is very precious to me!
the lighter lid on my jet line will not stay closed. The little nub the the top snaps down over to shut seems does not have enough tension to hold the top down. The opener works but there is not enough tension to keep it closed-any ideas how to fix this?
I have watched about 12 videos or more on the subject of lighter problems and I have to say that yours is by far the most all inclusive and helpful of the bunch (I don't think "bunch" is the proper word for a dozen...but I think it is better than "bushel":D)!! Thank you so much for such an informative video. Before I refined my search I got videos on igniting after shave or cologne!!...but I don't have a fuel issue. :D
Thanks for the video very helpful I bought a torch for 25 bucks and I use the cheapest butane so it got clogged so thanks to ur video I got it going again thank you
At 3:57 when that piece can blow off the lighter…this happened to me. How do I fix it? Or do I have purchase a part. Any assistance would be amazing. My torch is 8 years old and very dear to me.
I managed to get fuel to flow. I removed the valve where the fuel usually comes out, basically stripped it to just the tank, the fill valve and the fuel adjustment brass float and screw. I fill the tank and still no fuel was coming out. Figured what the hell and lit near the output hole missing the valve and must have burned something off. Jet of flame after that. Put the valve back on, refilled, but now it doesn't turn the fuel off. I think the valve/nozzle where the fuel comes out is either stuck open or has quit functioning. I can send vids or pics if you are willing to help.
Out of all the videos I've watched I still haven't come across anyone showing soft flames coming out when the lighter used to blast out jet flames . I've read through so many comments sections trying to find anyone else who's had this problem and nothing! I've bled the lighter several times , I've taken the whole thing apart all except for stripping the fuel value from the plastic tank.. its an Ignyte 4 jet lighter (not sure if i spelled that correct) and the only part that I think might be an issue is the hose connecting the tank to the torch head is very skinny compared to all my other lighters hoses and all 4 burners are built into the torch head to run off of that one single narrow hose.. I would like any thoughts or suggestions and anyone has about this .
Enjoyed your video. I wonder if you can tell me how to get the case off of a scripto "social lights" lighter. I have removed the cover screw from the bottom of the lighter as well as the flint assembly from the top. I am at a loss on how to proceed. I do not see any additional screws holder the internals in place. There is, what appears to be a brass colored tube leading to what I assume is the inlet for the butane. it appears to be threaded and has small notches on the edges of this tube. I do not want to attempt any further dis-assembly. I do not know how, or if, youtube allows photo attachments or I would have posted some photos of the lighter. Thanks for any help you may be able to give me.
I'm so glad that I came across your channel. It blows my mind that there's almost no worthwhile information on more in depth understanding of towards construction and repairs… I've come to be fascinated by them and do enjoy repairing them and also keep pretty good care of my torch lighters. I have an Eagle pencil torch that I favorite quite a lot. It's cheap karma only about $10 but high performance level for the cost. Anyway this it stop sparking and I open the doc to replace the piezo and all the components pop out. I've got it rebuilt but cannot figure out the function of the magnesium strip in where it goes. Would you be willing to make a video on it or at least contact me?
I’ve got a couple lighters that don’t work and most are over $100-200. About 20 years old. Colibri and Prometheus. Sent em in. They sent back saying colibri doesn’t exist anymore or something. It’s a nice lighter but been problematic. Opened it up but afraid to mess with it. Not really a lighter repair place here and don’t want to spend lots on it. Hoping I can figure out how to fix it. No gas coming out. Seems one flint of the dual flame isn’t working either. Fills with gas ok... just not working. The other one I’ve not yet checked. Just realized to search on TH-cam. I can’t even find the model I have based on some google searches. This particular one was about $150 or so back in about 2000-2003 ish. It’s silver with a dual bay door opening on top and a large switch on the center of the lighter that opens the bay doors and ignites it. Been wanting to fix these lighters for years. Now I am going to try to figure it out after sending it in and getting a return to sender :-/
Pedantic Pete if you really want it fixed by a pro, try a small jewler. My father had a collection of WW2 lighters that he would have fixed by one or two jewelers. His collection of 50 lighters sold in 1991 for $25k at auction!
Thank you @Regency Cigar for the good information. You solved most of the problems I've ever had with a butane lighter except one! I've had more than one lighter stop "clicking" when the lever is pressed down. It is just a kind of soft mush feel as it comes back/goes down (whatever it does) and then nothing. No click no spark Can you tell me what the issue is and how to repair it? Thank you so much!
My lighter just won't spark anymore. Gas is coming out fine, just no spark. It is just a $5 to $10 one at a truck stop, but it's been through hard times with me. Do hope to hear of a fix instead of no more use.
Sounds like your ignitor is broken. They wear out and once that happens there really isn't a way to get a replacement. Sry man many sounds like time for a new lighter. Thanks, Tyler Www.regencycigar.com
What if you can't hear the gas coming out but the hose is connected... This is a brand new lighter and I'm using zippos lighter fluid. And I also have a spark.
I don't encounter this problem much, the adjustment inside the lighter that controls the flame height is probably at fault. I don't have a fix for this sorry, I would return a lighter to the manufacture when I have a problem like this.
Hi I bought a Bugatti lighter and recently when I try to refill it, the refilling valve lets out the butane in a matter of seconds I thought maybe the butane valve is broken and remains opened but I'm not sure any advise ?
I have a colibri vortex that the jet head feel off. can I fix that? please help me cause the lighter used to belong to my brother so it is a sentimental piece.
Hi I got a new butane flint lighter. I can hear a hissing sound (the gas is coming out) but I got no flame. I wasn't able to lit it with another lighter either. however by adjusting the valve too low, I managed to get it work but the flame is not of any use in this state. please note that I've emptied/refilled the tank twice. any suggestions ? thanks in advance.
+Regency Cigar just too low. any attempt to adjust the flame higher results in flame out. after that the butane can't be lit with other heat source until the adjustment valve is turned back to very low.
+Ramtin Haddadzadeh What do you mean by flame out? One thing that I find happens on older lighters when you turn the adjuster to bring the flame higher or lower nothing happens and the flame is always too small. This is one problem I do not have a fix for :(. Is that's what is happening?
+Regency Cigar No. after turning the adjuster counter clockwise, the hissing sound increases. so it's evident that the valve is still operating somehow. however turning the valve slightly higher will extinguish the flame. in this situation the exiting butane can't be even lit with the help of another lighter.
+Ramtin Haddadzadeh The flame shape is solid right when you light it with another lighter, it's not distorted in anyway? If it's not a perfect flame they don't alway like to run right...
RickyP033 That’s your igniter you would need to replace it somehow trying to find part is always easy you can always take one out of another later and put it in that one if it’s fits

unfortunately we do not have replacement parts. you would have to contact the manufacturer for that.
I am having similar problems as that first lighter. No fuel coming out. Do you have a video going through the fix on that lighter? Thanks!
I have no fix for that....
I managed to get fuel to flow. I removed the valve where the fuel usually comes out, basically stripped it to just the tank, the fill valve and the fuel adjustment brass float and screw. @@marcusgallegos2624 i dont go that deep into lighters. sorry I cant help
you might goto a weilding shop...get orifice needle files...
Clean those orifices and the jet holes...
it really helps..
I have a minijet dupond and ignites always with the second press...any suggestions?
open the lighter a little slower maybe... that will allow it more time to get the proper fuel mixture going
Thank you, just fixed my lighter.
Can a leaking tank be fixed?

This just brought my barbecue lighter back to life. Here I was thinking I was going to be stuck cooking hair off my knuckles getting things lit.
I fixed this exact torch!
This looks like a fun job.
i dont mind it you get good at it!
Thank you for this I had no idea to spray air duster into the head
your welcome :)

haven't tried to fix that yet i just replace it with a spare piezo from a broken lighter that still works...

most of the time it is an easy fix, good luck!

your welcome!
really helpful video, finally fixed my lighter :)
Fixed papa's Colibri 8800. Thank you :)
What did do to fix the first lighter in the video? I have the exact same lighter, been the shelf for years. Curious if there is a way to recovery.
I dont have a fix yet for a lighter that the gas wont flow out of.

Its probably the Igniter, it would need to be replaced, but not sure where you would get the parts...
Replace the piezo igniter found in any click lighter.
Dude! Thanks, Great vid, lighter works great now!
Where to get fuel lines for a zico zd38 torch mine keep blowing off
good question not sure :/
Cheers for that just fixed a lighter after removing the little safety washer thing.

hi. i have a maruman ic502 lighter that has stopped sparking! any idea what i can do
igniter is probably gone... you would need a new one
sorry for the delay

U might of pushed valve in to far poke around see if it drops back in place
I have a colibri vortex that the jet head feel off. can I fix that? please help me cause the lighter used to belong to my brother so it is a sentimental piece.
It is possible to replace the jet but there is a some what special tool you need, they normally unscrew

So the flame is just to low to use or to high?
+Regency Cigar
just too low. any attempt to adjust the flame higher results in flame out. after that the butane can't be lit with other heat source until the adjustment valve is turned back to very low.

if I do not have never dull what else could I use?
Sorry for the delay I would use a little bit of rubbing alcohol on the end of a qtip
Rubbing alcohol on a Q-tip just shake off the excess so it doesn't drip into the lighter
O wow awesome OK thx I'll try that out
great vid. great info.
great video!
Thanks Anne-Marie!
Ok so you didn't fix the first one. And that took 5 minutes. Just great
So are you a licensed lighter technician
NOPE
Turn down for what
have a Gun Shaped fancy lighter and it has a few wires in it. somehow it isn't working now . sad
Where do I sean lighter to repair 1985?colibrii won’t hold gas.
ty easy fix for me
You check if it has butane by the bottom. not your ear. That's later on.
It's funny watching how over time, your cigar aficionado friends give up buying and using expensive lighters b/c of these issues.
doesn't matter how safe you are.
