I didn't actually see one bike I would class as a "cafe racer", which is an American term. We never used it, to us our bikes were just our bikes. I bought a 1956 BSA Gold Flash in 1963, I was a 16 year old apprentice, earning the princely sum of 3 pounds 10 shillings a week, and had to pay my keep , clothes, and take my girlfriend out on that, so didn't have loads of cash to splash out on my bike. I saved hard and bought a pair of used swept back pipes, and a pair of GoldStar track silencers. I also bought a pair of Clip ons and head lamp brackets. I got rid of the original footrests and used the pillion footrests, turning the gear lever the other way round. I made my own foot brake pedal at work, and cut the original big heavy mud guards down, and painted them silver,..........and that is how 90% of my friends built their "cafe racers".
Do u think they could have forward controls..I kniw it's not traditional. But I was injured in a bike wreck .got hit by a truck so I cant bend my knee to shift on a bike that is scrunched up..
