Fair play to you for putting this one up. I remember this game very well. Bit of a disastrous season for Celtic that one. If I remember correctly Celtic won their first two games of the season and Rangers lost theirs (2-1 to Hibs, 3-2 to Dundee Utd). The next game for both teams was an OF encounter at CP. If we won that we'd have been 9pts ahead. As it turned out, it finished 1-1 and Celtic fell away badly after that. Rangers won the League fairly easily in spite of this 3-1 victory.

Thanks much for uploading this, I was too young at the time to remember this match and it's a treat to see such clear footage from almost 30 years ago

Only Celtic v Rangers game I ever went to. After award of 2nd Celtic penalty quite a few irate Rangers fans tried to invade the pitch. All were stopped by the cops apart from one, who made it beyond the goal line. He then slowed to a walk as he approached McClair who was standing on spot with ball in his hand. Obviously he had second thoughts and either saw sense or lost his bottle depending on your POV. He ended just having a word with a very cool McClair then made his own way back off the pitch before he was escorted from ground.

Also have to say fair play also for putting this one up despite Rangers losing this one. :)

I have the advantage of my video library to refresh my memory :-)
I used to love going to Parkhead back in the 80s, a few beers in the Prince Charlie @ parkhead cross then up the back inside celtic park (to avoid getting squashed), happy days :-)
Never did manage to get along to the seated Parkhead before I left Scotland.

Thanks for the comments. The first OF game this season was @ ibrox (1-0 Durrant), crucial win for us! Think the turning point was the New Year OF game also @ ibrox, up till then I think Celtic had a decent lead.

Really enjoyed a classic Old Firm game. Great to see Arthur Montford @ the end there. Another 1980s Old Firm derby classic. :)

There are mixed crowds in all Aussie sporting events, very refreshing, although some of the more vocal away fans can get on your nerves a bit :-)
I went to see the Gers down in Sydney a couple of years back, think there were about 3,000 of us there.....Blackburn Rovers had about a dozen :-)
Celtic played in Brisbane the previous year, think there was a decent crowd at that one. This year Liverpool and Man U were over and the crowds were massive....we are well behind the epl teams these days :-(

I stand corrected Drew, you are right. I was at that 2-0 game on New Year's Day. My one and only ever visit to Ibrox. It was not a pleasant experience for the obvious reason. Bonner had a shocker that day.
I was thinking of another season when Rangers lost their first two games and Celtic won their's. Season 1989/90. I remember big fat Derek Johnstone saying on Clyde that if Rangers lost the OF game at CP then it was game's a bogey. Rangers fans were furious at that. It finished 1-1.

I stopped going to away games when standing was phased out, it got too expensive to go to home and away games!
The next old firm game is going to be huge, not sure when it is going to happen, but it will be massive when it does come around!
The money certainly has taken it's toll on football in general, the 'champions' league isn't a patch on the old European cup. It's the only show in town all the same so better to be in it than not, but the big nations/teams are going to dominate for years!

Here mate, I did a stint in Sydney as well for about a year in 1996. So I am well aware of the pull our respective teams have. I understand that the EPL is more high profile and more glory hunters are gravitating towards those teams. However, you can guarantee that once you have Celtic or Rangers in your blood, it's something you pass down to your weans. I take my 7 y/o daughter to CP. Look at the crowds that followed our teams to their UEFA Cup Finals. It never leaves us! :)

Aside from this one, you got the games from August '89 and March '93 both @ Parkhead? :)

Drew Gill Did Phillips replace Nicholl as well?

adriangoals I think Nicholl replaced McPherson, and Philips came on for Cooper.

The "new" CP is OK, I suppose, but doesn't nearly generate as much atmosphere as the old days when it was all standing.
I left Scotland too, in 1994, just in time to miss Rangers really turn the screw in their march towards the dreaded 9 in a row. I missed the old place though so came back in 2000 and Scottish football has obviously changed a lot since then. I'm not the only Celtic fan who thinks it's boring without Rangers about .. I hate the way that money has near on killed the game up here.

I went to the Glasgow Cup Final a few months back at Firhill. It was just the boys playing and there were about 7,000 fans there but it was still funny. Smoke bombs going off the lot. The media hoo-haa about "crowd trouble" was embarrassing. Seriously, I was walking up Maryhill Road with my colours on, Celtic and Rangers fans walking up next to each other and not a word said. I guess it might not be like that when the big boys play each other but we don't need the press mixing it up.
