Councilmember Kshama Sawant (District 3, Central Seattle), chair of the Seattle City Council’s Sustainability and Renters’ Rights Committee, proposes City legislation aimed at fighting caste discrimination. Caste is a system of rigid social stratification characterized by hereditary status, endogamy (completely closed categories), and social barriers based on birth and descent. Caste discrimination occurs in the form of social segregation, economic deprivation, physical and psychological abuse, and violence. Caste discrimination is also manifested in employment, education, and housing.
It is faced by South Asian American and other immigrant working people in their workplaces, including in the tech sector, in Seattle and in cities around the country. Sawant and other speakers will present the draft ordinance, which will be the first of its kind in the nation if passed by the City Council. Speakers will explain the caste discrimination that exists locally and nationally, and how the proposed ordinance will help fight caste discrimination.
    Speakers and attendees include:
Councilmember Kshama Sawant, Seattle City Council
Samir Khobragade, Tech worker & South Asian American community member
Raghav Kaushik, Tech worker & South Asian American community member
    Hassan Khan, Human rights activist
    Javed Sikandar, Technology leader
Lama Rangdrol, Seattle-based African American teacher of Buddhism
Alvin Muragori, Socialist & community organizer

Vijayarangan, May be yes. USA may one day collect caste and sect information besides how they collect religious information. Ignoring such a massive issue as castes and sects will create problems in communities because seperation of powers between religion and Government will reduce and finally may cease to exist. When religion, ethnicity and constitution start overlapping with each other, some castes, ethnicities and sects will enjoy undue political and business power while others will get suppressed repeating the history of Europe since last 500 years or so.

You don't know what you are talking about. Protestants, Catholics, Pentacostals aren't castes. They are religious denominations, which is to say sub-groups of Christianity. Similar to Sunni and Shia for Muslims. Discrimination or persecution between these denominations would be called "sectarianism".

  • @Servant_of_1111
    @Servant_of_1111 ปีที่แล้ว +7

One potential issue with the anti-caste law is that it may be difficult to determine an individual's caste. This is similar to issues in the US where proving discrimination based on race or other protected characteristics can be challenging. However, there are ways to gather evidence of discrimination, such as witness testimony or statistical analysis.
there are several reasons why the enforcement of an Indian anti-caste law would not work in the United States.
Firstly, the caste system is a unique and complex social hierarchy that exists in India and other South Asian countries, and it is not present in the United States. While discrimination based on race, ethnicity, religion, and other factors is a serious issue in the US, the notion of caste is not widely recognized or understood in American society. As a result, an anti-caste law would be difficult to enforce and may not effectively address the root causes of discrimination in the US context.
Secondly, as you mentioned, determining an individual's caste based on physical appearances or last names would be challenging and could lead to inaccuracies or abuses. Caste identity is not always visible or easily discernible, and there are many factors that can influence an individual's social status and opportunities. Additionally, the ability to change one's last name or other identifying information would make it difficult to accurately track and enforce any kind of caste-based policies or benefits.
Furthermore, an anti-caste law could potentially exacerbate tensions or conflicts between different communities in the US. The concept of caste is closely tied to religion and cultural traditions in South Asia, and applying these concepts to American society could create divisions and misunderstandings. There is also a risk that certain groups could feel unfairly targeted or marginalized by an anti-caste law.
In conclusion, while the idea of an anti-caste law may seem like a way to address discrimination, the unique context of the United States makes it difficult to apply such a law effectively. Instead, efforts should be focused on combating discrimination based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, and other factors that are more widely recognized and understood in American society.
Caste discrimination is a multifaceted problem that cannot be fully resolved through legal remedies alone. It requires a broader social and cultural shift in attitudes towards caste. For instance, in the United States, laws prohibiting racial discrimination have not fully eliminated systemic racism in society.
Furthermore, the implementation of the anti-caste law has been uneven across India, with some states showing more success in prosecuting cases of caste discrimination than others. This is similar to how certain US states have stronger records in enforcing civil rights laws than others.
This law is a waste of time & money! Nothing will come out of it.

@@Clickonsridhar Discussions, Debate and Dissent forms of communication are duplex communications. When someone is imposing certain ideologies and thought processes top down like the caste hierarchy then it is a matter of concern. Though many of Rajiv Malhotra’s views are eye-opening, some of his ideas are extremely patriarchal. He wants to preserve the old archaic feedback-less top-down dictat like brahmanical governance systems which failed to ensure freedom and sovereignty for Indians for like 1450 years until 1947AD. His actions of controlling his TH-cam channel’s comment section is a burning remnant of such failed brahmanical schools of thought.
Transition methods, schemes and strategies used by political parties to transition from modern politics to ancient politics is called revivalism. Usually countries governed by revivalist politics go through dark-ages. For instance, Hitler’s revivalism of ancient Nazism/Aryanism proved to be a debacle for Germany for decades. Revival politics of North Korea under the garb of modern communism has sunk the nation in despair. Revival politics of religion in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Myanmar has back-tracked those civilizations. Revival politics of Middle-East and some parts of Africa since the end of World War II or their colonial independence has resulted in either stagnation of their standard-of-living or destroying the lives of common citizens.
In patriarchal hierarchical systems where elders always need to be respected, geriatric mental disorders devastate families due to incompetent decisions made by elders (with geriatric mental disorders). Similarly, elderly politicians with geriatric illnesses (mental/physical) may also devastate a nation’s well-being, thus putting lives at risk. I apologize for saying the same goes with any profession too including politics or media. For ages, entire world learned what was from India and assimilated into their lives but Indians fell behind by wallowing in self-pride. May be you encountered such prunes who are so common around the world due to caste politics of India. Please note that even Mahatma Gandhiji never meant don’t learn from a Developed nation! He only encouraged Indians to use whatever within their means to deny using products that generate income which was being used for Colonial Wars…That’s an arrow in the Quiver of Non-Violence.
In nations where revivalism is happening, a human service is regarded as having greater value than a modern invention or its inventors. At the height of Chinese empire, Indian empire, Ottoman empire etc., inventors and intellectuals got sidelined because the rulers took inventions and their inventors for granted. Thus there were no new innovations either in sciences or humanities and those empires collapsed. Even USSR faced with similar problem where military and politicians were put on pedestal and intellectuals under-paid or assassinated. Not only revivalism disintegrates a country but also results in isolation of that country among the comity of nations. Once upon a time, the gulf region of Middle-East used Indian rupee for their currency. When Kuwait struck so much oil, they went the route of traditional politics. However UAE went the route of blending both traditional and modern politics. Thus Kuwait is suffering in dark ages as a net consumer though they are huge exporters of oil, while UAE is seen as beacon of modernization of Middle-East and has acceptance of almost all nations including USA, China, Japan, Korea, UK, Germany, France, India etc. Not only in middle-east, even in South Asian countries like India, Pakistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka, the religion and family name gets you to highest positions regardless of your skill and what you could produce while in developed countries of East or West, though they consider pedigree, an individual’s skill and what he can produce is given higher importance than pedigree.
Late PM of Pakistan, Muhammad Ali Jinnah tried to champion women’s rights saying women must be given equal rights as men. He said
“No nation can ever be worthy of its existence that cannot take its women along with the men. No struggle can ever succeed without women participating side by side with men. There are two powers in the world; one is the sword and the other is the pen. There is great competition and rivalry between the two. There is a third power stronger than both, that of the women."
Due to revival politics in Pakistan, as you are suggesting for India with your sarcastic comment based on Rajiv Malhotra’s book, now Pakistan’s women’s freedom of expression is curtailed so much so that many of them are wrapped in burqa and treated like property. Such liberal Islamic countries as Turkey and Malaysia also are facing sporadic resistance to the modern political ideologies and some political parties there are reveling in revivalism.
Back to India, when Mughals were ruling India during colonial period, there was revival politics in India due to a dynasty called Marathas. You see her last name Sawant is due those revival politics by aristocratic brahmanical families of Maratha empire who were treasure keepers and war funders of foreign weapons. They depended heavily on Europeans for their weaponry. Their empire disintegrated by 1857AD because lower-caste Hindus, Sikhs and even South Indian upper castes felt it is wise to fight for British than Marathas or Mughals. Thus the revivalism you are asking for also failed many times since the times of Alexander’s invasion of India. A human civilization is different from that of a canines’ civilization or an apes’ civilization or a bovines’ civilization or a lions’ civilization. And Indians, their governments, NGOs etc. must contemplate on what’s best for them from time to time and accordingly set their goals in line with the rest of humanity in USA, Japan, Korea, China, Singapore, UK or other Developed nations. Therefore Indians must be educated from the time they are born until they reach certain maturity in rational, logical and critical thinking besides domain expertise in STEM fields through tertiary education.
With internet, entire world knows about issues of India not just intelligence of Developed countries. Due to the current central government’s revival politics of Aryanism dividing communities based on caste, India has recently lost a huge contract of semiconductor manufacturing plant with TSMC to Japan and Samsung’s semiconductor manufacturing plant to USA. Brahmins and other upper Hindu castes consider Buddhists and Christians as lower castes which is not palatable for East Asians or even West Europeans.
Ever wonder why Taiwan, Korea, Japan, France, Singapore and USA can do such wonders in technologies and India with its vast population cannot do the same even with so called literacy and great religions? Because Indian Governments only concentrated on basic literacy for so long and have not been paying as much attention to the tertiary studies at Universities of sciences, technologies, engineering, medicine etc. Due to inadequate number of universities with world standards, the number of South Asian startups, innovation and patent filings are way too less compared to East Asia let alone Europe or Nations of European Settlers. According to 2023 US News report of Best Global Universities Rankings, here is how South Asia compares to East Asia with respect to the number of world ranked universities in Sciences, Technologies, Engineering, Mathematics, Medical sciences etc.
      China(351)+Japan(118)+S.Korea(60)+Taiwan(37)+Thailand(14)+Vietnam(6)+Singapur(4)=590
      India(99)+Pakistan(21)+BanglaDesh(2)+Sri Lanka(3)+Nepal(1)+Bhutan(0)+Afghanistan(0)=126
Now who are we kidding saying India is ‘Vishwaguru’ straddled by nations with no regards for a secular democracy. South Asia with a population of around 200 crore people has only 126 world ranked universities while the European Union with just over 75 crore people has around 663 world ranked universities as per 2023 US News report of Best Global Universities Rankings.
Thus in order to improve mind-set, India’s human capital must be skilled which in turn builds social, diplomatic/political and cultural credit besides generating financial revenues. The NGOs and the Governments may come up with a ranking for all universities based on diversity and tolerance. With such ranking, the aspiring students may opt for those more diverse universities where they can study without distractions or discriminations of any kind thus becoming the light of their own communities, states and the countries. In other words, increasing the number of universities and their global rankings must be the focus of all intellectuals and NGOs now so that South Asia will also have choicest man-power to work on not only latest sciences and technologies but also social and political reforms ultimately improving the overall standard of living of all and their families. When the overall standard of living of all communities is improved, then they will have time to discuss, debate, research and become more aware of their voting power inside universities and also outside in communities.
Therefore, however harsh it may sound, India must move away from being a herd of agrarian, mercenary and slave-trading hierarchical societies of castes and religions strengthened/formed by Colonial powers for nearly 1450 years to a cohesive, disciplined, qualified and healthy communities of intellectuals, post-graduates, high-tech businesses, armed forces and manufacturing workers keeping at home all discriminatory ideologies practiced at home like religion, caste, tribe, sect, language, region, gender, direction of region etc.

@@kalgandikota7075 Well its a long story you wrote, however the basic premise itself is completely wrong. So dont want to go point by point in response and would suggest you to read "Snakes in Ganga" with open mind.
Anyways, the premise you set of hierarchies is incorrect in Bharat's civilization and explained beautifully in the book. Bharat's Varna system is not hierarchical. All the castes had a equal role to play in the society.
In the history there were kings of all the castes ruling at some point in time. Major scriptures & texts are not all written by Brahmans only.
Rajiv's efforts is make yourself and other realize this as opposed to looking at it from western and middle-eastern lens who created and trying to keep the hierarchy alive based on their limited understanding of Bharat's culture.
Bharat would like to retain this civilizational strength, innovation and acceptance and protecting these core values would help it become the once upon a time prosperous nation in the world.
Reckon you know the invasions, depredation, destruction and loot by the western and middle-eastern from 14 century onwards. We preserved the culture during those times and we will continue to do so. Its a great example to the world and thus a Vishwaguru. You know some countries dont even know their roots anymore.
You got the TMSC contract thing wrong and would suggest first fix the premise itself. Maybe you picked up this garbage from some cheap agenda driven news publications/articles. Also not sure how you assumed Central Govt of Bharat is dividing communities. They operate with the motto of "Vasudhaiva kutumbakam", so I recommended again to read the book first.

Putting Modi responsible for the castism rise is wrong. The radical left must name and shame the castes like specific higher castes instead of umbrella terms like Brahmins, khatriyas etc.
Once again Modi as a representative of a party is playing within the system and he is trying to fight the discrimination in his own way.

I am not affiliated with any political party. You seem to take the side of lesser of two evils which controlled the Central Government of India for the last 75 years and that’s fine. Hon’ble PM of India Sri Narendra Modi is one of a kind for India until now and his service for the development of country and improving the standard of living of all citizens is well appreciated. However if BJP is so good, why don't they make no-caste and no-religion certificates easier for people seeking to become caste-less at the central government level and also in their states where BJP is elected?
I am born into a backward caste and I’ve been a victim of such caste and regional discrimination at an MNC in India and also in USA. If you worked in big corporations and government offices in the metros of India, you'd know the dynamics of caste discrimination in office politics. Many thanks to Sri Kshama Sawant for introducing this legislation to ban caste discrimination in USA which will definitely make aware USA’s politicians and may be other developed world politicians the extent of caste discrimination in India even in 21st century so that they propose international solutions to mitigate the same.
Instead of bickering, let’s try to dig into the problems of casteism and propose solutions for the same. In my view, the best way to mitigate South Asian castes of all religions like Hindu, Muslim, Christian and Sikh is by increasing the number of multi-disciplinary universities in sciences, technologies, business and politics in South Asia. Instead of increasing the number of Universities, Indian political leaders are putting fight between various castes and religions of India with systems of reservations. Instead they must increase the number of universities so that everyone of all castes and religions have highest degrees in their hands. For those who can’t pursue studies at Universities, there must be vocational colleges teaching them 21st century job skills so they either provide their services or start their own trades. Therefore one way to get over this caste based reservation systems, cased-based discrimination and age-old self-imploding customs of South Asia is by active participation of lower castes and atheists in media, politics, government and businesses without the fear of getting killed.
The oppressed staying in villages working traditional jobs and demanding equal rights is just futile. How can one expect Governments filled with upper castes and their nepotistic families to know about the problems of oppressed? Also the NGOs in villages only engaged in religious conversions results in an additional bigotry crisis instead of uplifting lower castes and native tribes. Therefore there must be NGO programs to help tribals, dalits, and other lower castes to find work in cities. You see there are hostels for Brahmins, Baniyas, Reddys, Kammas, Jats, Jains, Pharsis, Catholics, Muslims etc. in major cities for workers or students. Similarly there must be hostels for lower castes also who are working or studying either for fee or free. That will help marginalized communities get closer to the seats of political and business power to influence Government decisions.
Also finding Government employment or making temple entries cannot be the only success in the life of graduates & post-graduates from marginalized communities. This problem arose due to the license-raj capitalism under the garb of socialism. We must all ask which is better, unemployed-uneducated youth or unemployed-educated youth in South Asia? As many in a nation as possible must be educated in graduate and post-graduate degrees. Unemployed post-graduates are least worry to a country and majority may ultimately strive to be entrepreneurs, join civil services, armed forces, start NGOs, become politicians, go to foreign countries etc. ensuring South Asia will also develop on par with East Asia if not Western Europe.
For instance, for a Taiwanese population of 24 million if there are 37 world ranked universities as per US News Report on Best Global Universities, then for an Indian population of around 1400 millions, there must be more than 1800 world ranked universities in India. How many are there now? Right now there are only 99 world ranked universities in India as per 2023 US News Report of Best Global universities rankings. More statistics, the population of Germany is 85 millions. The population of Switzerland is 8.5 millions. According to 2023 US News report of Best Global Universities Rankings, there are 74 world ranked universities in Germany and there are 12 world ranked universities in Switzerland. India’s population of 1390 millions is more than 15 times of Germany and more than 150 times of Switzerland. It is time for Indian consumers to introspect about what’s the use of India’s population that is 15 times of Germany and more than 150 times of Switzerland?
Such small countries like Taiwan, Korea, Japan or Singapore doing such wonders in technologies and Nepal, India, Sri Lanka or Pakistan with their vast populations cannot do the same even with so called literacy and great religions. South Asian Governments only concentrated on basic literacy for so long and have not been paying as much attention to the tertiary studies at Universities of sciences, technologies, engineering, medicine etc. According to 2023 US News report of Best Global Universities Rankings, here is how South Asia compares to East Asia with respect to the number of world ranked universities in Sciences, Technologies, Engineering, Mathematics, Medical sciences etc.
      China(351)+Japan(118)+S.Korea(60)+Taiwan(37)+Thailand(14)+Vietnam(6)+Singapur(4)=590
      India(99)+Pakistan(21)+BanglaDesh(2)+Sri Lanka(3)+Nepal(1)+Bhutan(0)+Afghanistan(0)=126
Now who are we kidding saying India is ‘Vishwaguru’ straddled by countries with no regards for a secular democracy. South Asia with a population of around 2000 million people has only 126 world ranked universities while the European Union with just over 750 million people has around 663 world ranked universities as per 2023 US News report of Best Global Universities Rankings.
A sovereign democracy works only when a critical mass of the population of a nation is well versed in national, international politics and economics. With as much education as possible including higher education, South Asia's future can be improved. People are not born leaders, they are made. With best post-graduate education, the leaders will have ability to read documents, control impulses and make decisions rationally, be logical in their speaking etc. For the size of population in South Asia, the number of thinkers has to be on par with developed countries. These educated will have ability to help others also understand the importance of standard-of-living over fighting foolishly over religion, caste, tribe, sect, race, language, region etc. As those leaders perish, a new generation of leaders better than them must arise. Without a critical mass of educated intellectuals in India, there won't be much democracy in South Asia how much ever one may try. Look what’s happening to Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Myanmar & Afghanistan next door.
Like what this council member is doing, there must be many more tangible ideas for the betterment of marginalized communities like Dalits, Adivasis, LGBT, marginalized OBCs and even the low-level labor like construction workers, domestic workers etc., who constitute one-sixth the world’s population. In other words, voicing problems to make everyone aware is only like setting direction for an ideological journey. However one must also think about what all steps/tasks/vehicles required for that journey to reach the successive mile-stones on that ideological journey. For instance, the NGOs must nudge their political parties in India to allow no-caste-no-religion certificates in their Indian states. The politicians in power and in opposition must discuss tangible policies for caste-less societies inside Indian legislatures and the parliament also besides news media. One must Plan, Organize, Execute and check the progress of that ideology or strategy among the masses. Without proper institutionalization, planning, execution and then quantification of the results, any activism is just another brute-force gathering which may succeed or fail due to random causes nobody ever preconceived.
Thus in order to improve mind-set, India’s human capital must be skilled which in turn builds social, diplomatic/political and cultural credit besides generating financial revenues. The NGOs and the Governments may come up with a ranking for all universities based on diversity and tolerance. With such ranking, the aspiring students may opt for those more diverse universities where they can study without distractions or discrimination of any kind thus becoming the light of their own communities, states and the countries. That said I am not affiliated with any political party, religion, caste, language, tribe, sect, food habits, dress habits etc.

Brahmins have been named and shamed for decades now. You've done almost nothing to alleviate the system because you, like this fool talking, think that caste is the same as caste discrimination. Just bc someone chooses to eat vegetarian food doesn't make them or their community oppressors. If they legitimately are nasty based on caste, then that makes them descriminatory. I've heard Brahmins are evil for decades but I've only ever found them to be accepting, especially the younger gen.
Moreover, in my state of Tamil Nadu there are less than 1% and yet are the upheld bogeyman. Brahmins have faced violence and continue to face violence yet this is completely ignored by the media. Instead of shaming, we should try to create a consolidation, and eradicate prejudice and bias.

    • @kalgandikota7075
      @kalgandikota7075 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Aish Siva, There are good Brahmins of course like they are good Christians, Muslims and Jews. However, lower castes will remember not just the oppression of few in those upper castes(of religions) but the silent blunt apathy of the remaining good majority in those Upper castes. When Aryans arrived in India, locals had the land and Aryans had Brahmanism. They taught how to pray with our eyes closed. When we opened our eyes, they had the land, the mansions and our women while we had Spades & tools to clean their mansion gutters, make clothes, mine gold, polish diamonds, milk cows, grow grain & catch fish to feed the masters’ babies and their foreign allies supplying weapons and mercenaries. That’s the ancient history of India for thousands of years since the times of Hercules, Alexander, Islamic Jihadists and even European crusaders! And the exploitation continues into 21st Century.
Recently in Feb 2023, a dalit student was thrown down IIT Mumbai's building and framed as suicide. It is all over the news. Brahmins are the brain-power centers of caste discrimination maintaining status quo by their religious scriptures known as Manusmriti, Mahabharat, Vedas etc. and therefore they are not actively educating Indians or even Nepalis even after 75 years of independence as I wrote above giving an evidence of the state of tertiary education in South Asia. Are Good Brahmins agitating for equality, making amendments and building more universities in South Asia to accommodate the lower-castes in India who cannot afford a plane ticket let alone full tuition fee in foreign countries?
Also it is not what Brahmins or Mullahs eat or do not eat, it is what they do NOT let others eat by proselytizing oppression and killing of those who eat such meats. Children of lower caste families living in one room huts, city slums and rentals doing menial jobs in your houses and businesses do not have the luxury of stashing varied varieties of millets and vegetables in their little dwellings. So they eat meats and why can’t they be must be respected by Brahmins as they would respect any American or European. Is that respect being given duly now at least in 21st century?
Right now in India and around the world, the tribals, the lower-caste Indian Hindus and Indian Buddhists are shot dead for just trying to come up in their own communities or trying to raise awareness among masses by means of Non-violence. Also, for just asserting their rights from The Constitution of India, the lower-caste Indian Hindus and Indian Buddhists are taken out of villages/cities, Shot dead and framed as "Mao terrorists"(Mao Vadi) by Indian media. You see how in USA some politician is framed socialist or communist to make their lives miserable, it’s the same recipe with different ingredients in India. If the person is well-known in communities like myself, they frame us as "mentally diseased", destroy our careers, finances, social life and torture us so that we react adversely. Almost all Upper Caste Hindus from North India think their Patriarchs are White people from Germany called Aryans....thus, they don't help South Indians even if they are from Upper Hindu castes and can you imagine how worse the lives of lower Hindu caste South Indians would be? This is also the reason why almost all employees at the departments of India’s Ministry of External Affairs are filled with North Indians and mostly Upper-Caste Hindus with few from upper-caste Sikhs, Muslims, Christians etc. One must note, Mahatma Gandhi was threatened not to practice law in North India due to bane/plague of casteism and that’s the reason he runs away to South Africa like we South Indians run away from India now to USA. Though not me, for that reason many South Indians excel here and many even become CEOs/CPOs/CFOs of billion dollar American corporations.
Majority of Indians cannot be living like cattle in a cattle-shed and when someone wants to rent a few, the cattle-herders are happy to give them away. Also India cannot be content being an amusement park of stone-age for the rich travelers from developed countries and their kids. Neither India is a cattle ranch owned by the historically-privileged castes nor the lower castes in India are their properties like one owns bovines on their cattle ranch to be branded based on their birth and put into different stalls in the name of caste-based reservations which happen to be just 2 percent of jobs in the public sector given the population of lower castes of all religions is nearly 70 percent. Only sanctions by the United Nations against Foreign weapon traders cutting deals in South Asia will really bring forth the bane of caste discrimination in South Asia where the freedom of press ranking is somewhere down the gutters.
Only in a marital relationship, a couple may consider compatibility of their food, financial prudence, residential settings, holiday activities and their daily lives. That said neither couple should be forced into endogamy against his or her will. Nobody has the right to stop or worse kill an adult single who he or she should or should not mate with because it is a private matter. However, in all the relationships of that couple or the family with the societies, the cities and the countries, there cannot be any concession for any type of discrimination including caste, religion, sect, race, region(N, S, E, W), gender(women, LGBT), dress habits, food habits etc. Are South Asian political systems and their spin-offs in the diaspora ensuring such equality, fraternity, life, liberty and pursuit of happiness for all? Brahmins happen to be the largest caste of India & Nepal and they are taking away the resources, the positions of power, the media, the sports, the top-tier universities etc., by dubious means exuding their blunt apathy towards anyone crying justice. Why India is still struggling by NOT having enough number of Judges in the Supreme Court and High Courts of the largest Democracy in the world and why there are so many cases in the back-log is a testament of Brahmins’ intellectual generosity or spiritual apathy, yeah? At least they should aim for enough number of professors on temporary contracts at the Indian universities if India is short of funds after giving easy loans to whoever scamming the country, living in luxurious mansions around the world with their slaves and stashing cash in secret tax-havens.
Since last 75 years of India's Independence, the upper castes including Brahmans least cared about improving the mental health hospital system in India also due to the fear of loosing tithes in their temples and revenues from astrology, vaseekaran, dosham annihilation, gurukuls, ashrams, meditation & Yoga revenues, social media revenues, festival revenues, pilgrimage revenues and other such religious ceremonial activities. Also if Brahmins and Sikhs are so inclusive, why can’t they accept jobless lower castes who would like to study to become priests in their temples and Gurudwaras in South Asia and also in at least USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand & UK?
South Asia must have at least as many Indian Medical Council approved mental health institutions as there are Babas, Mullahs and Fatheries doing Spiritual Therapies. Otherwise South Asia will remain a breeding ground for caste discrimination which is finding way into developed countries of Europe and countries of European Settlers like USA and Australia.
There is difference being poor and being able to empathize with the poor. Some may be rich yet their thinking may be poor. At UN, when someone speaks about “Development”, one thinks only about “economic development”. Thus, the nations of the world are divided based on their economic development as Developed nations, Developing nations, and third-world. If you analyze and observe, the nations that are transitioning from the status of third-world to developing to developed nations have similar ways of life and they do not follow their religions verbatim though they strive to defend the same for political and economic gains. Just upgrading economic reforms and relaxing FDI laws won’t help achieve development. Besides Economic reforms, any nation needs waves of social and cultural reforms in parallel to catch up with China, USA, Japan or other developed nations. Colored Asia carrying the weight of their bygone colonial history, had waves of social and cultural reforms pre-independence to unite their peoples against colonial rule. However after Independence, the social and cultural change has been rather slow still struggling to shake off the colonial mindset being passed on from generation to generation. For instance, if Brahmins are such intellectuals yet victims of caste oppression as you are claiming while already controlling all four arms of Indian and Nepali Government like legislature, judiciary, executive and media, then why aren’t Brahmins, being the largest South Asian caste, effecting rapid social changes to dismantle casteism for which they have been blaming European colonization since last 75 years or so even after India gained independence in 1947AD?

Why am I joining the fight to ban caste-based discrimination in Seattle? Because I wish to see Seattle become the torch-bearer for championing such an issue as Caste Discrimination plaguing not just Indian-American communities but also almost one-fifth the world population in South Asia. United States ignoring such an issue as caste discrimination will have adverse consequences in future International relations with South Asia as the obvious evident consequences in 21st century due to the ignorance of bygone American politicians about the ground realities in the bygone century of the massive oppressed populations in those countries like Japan, Vietnam, Iran, China, Ethiopia, Kenya, Philippines and many other African & South American countries. In simple words, USA supporting regimes, religions and cultures who are only oppressing massive majority in their countries will obviously back-fire. So is going to be case with India and Pakistan if USA supports the religious hegemonies in those countries of South Asia instead of Democracy as President Abraham Lincoln envisioned; Democracy is of the people, for the people and by the people. Therefore I admonish the contemporary elected representatives of USA to make no deluded mistakes conjuring up that Democracies in other countries is of the rulers, for the rulers and by the rulers thus affecting the reputation of USA as the beacon of Democracy for the world before the majority population of India which is nearly 70 percent of 1400 million Indian citizens. I request all esteemed American politicians to humbly ask themselves, What would the majority Indian citizens, nearly 70 percent of 1400 million Indians of all religions(Hindu, Sikh, Muslim, Christian etc.) think of American Democracy if this legislation against caste discrimination does not go through which was enacted in the Indian Democracy 75 years ago or so?
That said, I am not affiliated with any political party, any religion, sect, caste, tribe, last name, zip code, region, direction of region(N/W/S/E), language, gender (women, LGBTQ), media, NGO, business, Government institution, dress habits, food habits, exercise habits etc. In 21st century, humans must resolve to only concentrate on the common interests so we all have happy and prosperous lives, communities, cities, states and countries by the power of modern sciences and technologies. Let us wish for a day when humans on this planet get noticed only for their thoughts, deeds and degrees but NOT for their religion, caste, sect, language, region, race, gender, skin-color or even what they wear or what they eat.

The land-locked areas like the heartland and rust belt especially suffer from a lack of exposure to international diversity, meanwhile our coastal areas tend to be liberally welcoming, because politicians that use fear mongering tactics have less success pitting us against people who we know are our trusted friends, coworkers and neighbors. We're all just people trying to make this life work. We're stronger together; teamwork makes the dream work; e pluribus unum.
Also, I'm guessing it's a style choice, like pronouncing 1,400 as fourteen-hundred, but 1,400 million is also 1.4 billion. Have you ever seen that thing where a line is drawn across a map to show that half the world's population lives on either side? The line basically starts at the Asian continent, includes Australia and everything in the Pacific, and then there's the rest of the world.
It's a big deal to plan our international ethical signaling carefully while they still think the USA should be imitated. Back in the 30's our country inspired Germany with our Jim Crow laws. That ended badly. More kindness in problem solving is a good thing.
Now we just have to figure out how to make wealth be a product of self betterment, instead of the other way around.

Are you going to police people in social situations now rather than working with the community to oppose this discrimination? You will open the ENTIRE south asian population - INCLUDING yourself to dangerous preceidents. Do you think Americans will want to employ Indians now?
