Everyone is different, at the club I train at there's a guy who's new to arm wrestling and he's tremendous in the hook with zero elbow trouble, whereas I've been training arm wrestling for about a year and I STILL can't handle any side pressure in my elbows and much prefer toproll. Some people just have bulletproof joints, whereas I think virtually all my joints are possibly below average strength from whatever genetics I have.
Hear you on that side pressure training blows my tendons out for some reason takes a few weeks to get them better it’s not as bad but back pressure I can do like every other day
Ah man I can't tell you how happy I am that Bob started posting vids on TH-cam. Finally we can get a BS free version of things and great advice from a guy who is a legend and an OG in the sport!!
It seems like back pressure is a safer route to pull. I prefer it myself and don't really like to train heavy side pressure outside of table time at this point. I've been Armwrestling almost 3 years now
Oleg Zhokh wasn't known for his side pressure. It's his absnornal wide hand and great back pressure that he was known for and made him the giant slayer
Bob i got a question do you think our table could be improved upon? Do you think the table is optimal for everyone? Personally i think the corners of the table could be rounded out or maybe a round table could be better. What are your thoughts on it?
Thankyou for the great content Bob, can you please explain in a video how a Posting style Toproller goes about beating a Hooker in the straps, I'm constantly advise to dump my wrist an opt for a low hand TR instead, can you please shed some light, cheers.
I’m pretty inexperienced but I would say cup > back pressure > pronation > side pressure > riser. That being said, there’s nothing you can do against someone who has a ton of side pressure
Bob, I know you predicted that Michael would 6-0 Levan. What is your opinion of the between them now, after Michael vs Devon match? Would be greatly interested in hearing your thoughts on this!
Devon is very familiar with the KM and knows very well how to pull against it. Levan is still inexperienced against it. I'd Michael still has the surprise factor in that match.
@@HyakuJuu01300 lol 3 years ago... i tought that levan was the best in the world since 4 years ago. but based on your comment seems like people wasnt aware of that
do you really need side pressure from internal rotation? Surely if you can keep your elbows tight and have enough to keep everything locked as your body goes to the side, that does the job?
Great videos. If you are answering questions can you talk about the typical timeline of improvement from starting to competitive pro or even beyond. I started arm wrestling October 2020 did my first tournament a few weeks ago and did pretty well in the amateur 220 lb class (bronze) but the pros in the 150 lb weight class could all smash me. I heard Devon or someone say something like 4 years or more but wanted to hear your thoughts.
In only two months of training, I finally went to professional armwtestling club and only 2 out of the 8 pullers actually we're a challenge, I'm 52 and my goal is to return to the club for my revenge!! I'm set on going back to prove it can be done in less than 2 years!! I train til I basically cry, so set on crushing the whole team next time,
Thanks for the video Bob. Would you say a pressing style armwrestler needs to focus on backpressure or is internal rotation their equivalent of backpressure?
Sasho Andreev,Bozhidar Simeonov and Todd are like number 1 or 2 in the world in their classes and can go to the side even without their hand. In the strength range above these classes the same thing is more dangerous and more close to break your arm.

How often does John come to Utah? I’ve become a big arm wrestling fan the last few years and would love to meet John some time if possible. I’m just a bit North of Salt Lake City. In fact my dad use to work at SLC Airport for Delta in the bag room and on the ramp. He told me he remembered seeing John out there sometimes but I was disappointed that my dad never actually talked to him..
@@bobbrownfun oh so it’s like if u try toprolling a hooker and his hand is strong than it’s either give up or have a inside game. Or if your in a hook but can’t beat him either give up or top roll him. Is that correct?
How is this the case if big strong dudes new to armwrestling who have massive back pressure get smashed? Larry wheels is a good example… his strength gave him immense back pressure but at the start he was getting smashed by much weaker opponents? I can only assume it was due to his lack of hand/wrist and side pressure…
Plus, I think training back pressure is not as taxing on your arms as training side pressure. Just my .02
Not for me. Backpressure gave me the worst brachioalis pain ever. I handle side pressure training way better.

You just don’t know how to arm wrestle
Also do JM press.
Training side pressure hurts SO fucking bad for my. The inside and outside of my elbow gets lit up. Back pressure is almost painless

Once u master sidepressure, strong tendons, u will almost feel zero pain if enemy hits hard

Side pressure for me

I would love to see a video about advanced offensive and defensive hook techniques
How do you manage to have amazing backpressure but not a strong hand and wrist? I’m curious as I haven’t seen this a lot
Because someone might train in the straps a lot. Not as much need for a stronger hand. Just pull back.

Good one. Consider a volume enhancer like a shotgun mic or lapel mic, there are several which work well and are reasonably priced.

My back is all I’ve got, doc.
😂
At least if I start arm wrestling I’ll know ahead of time what my strong suit is
My back pressure is my best ability, my hook and press suck.

Who is this Jason guy? Damn
What back stands for? Back as the body part or backwards?
backwards, but you are pulling with your lats (a back muscle) and your biceps simultaneously. Wow, why did it take a year for someone to answer you?
Back pressure hurts less...
Why does anyone go inside then if back pressure clearly a more efficient and most likely easier path to victory every time?
Thats like asking in football. Why run since pass is more efficient. sometimes you cant pass.
