I’m sure I can’t be the only person who’s noticed this but I’ve never seen it mentioned anywhere. We all know that the night Ambrose cashed in, every member of the SHIELD held the title in the same night. But another cool thing is that Roman’s first ever title win was after pinning Dean (final of that tournament for the vacant title), Dean’s first ever title win was after pinning Seth (MITB cash in), and Seth’s first ever title win was after pinning Roman (heist of the century). Best faction ever
I'm confused... I looked up the results of that night. From what I read, Lashley beat down Seth and then Theory attempted the cash in. I'm not seeing anything about an open challenge. Am I missing something?
Knowing that the first Money in the Bank was nearly 20 years ago, really makes me feel old. In my opinion though, in those early matches, Shelton Benjamin really put that match on the map.
Shelton was incredible. I became a fan of him while he was in OVW around 2000, and got to meet and talk to him several times. Dude was really nice and humble. I remember telling him once he was name dropped in an issue of WWE magazine (in a piece on Lesnar while he was also still in OVW), and told him that’s a good sign, and eventually he’d be there. But he seemed like he wasn’t good enough to make it. No man, you’re going to be there, you are way better than anyone they currently have. 😂 But it’s a shame WWE never did more with him. I get he wasn’t the greatest on the mic or with character work, but they worked around all that for Lesnar, they could have done the same for him. Could have had Shelton be a Paul Heyman guy and have Heyman do all the talking for him. Could have had an incredible fued with him and Brock, but who’s to say that wasn’t in the plans before Lesnar decided he wanted to play football. They say Scott Hall is the best to never win a world title, I disagree. Sheltons in ring work far exceeded any short comings he had, to the point I would rank him above Hall. With all due respect to the bad guy 🤘
Having the ad break placed directly between the two "Kennedy"'s was absolutely perfect... One of the very few rare moments where I actually enjoyed a commercial break
Crazy how many careers Brock has burried and done nothing to push younger talent. So happy that's he's gone from wwe, definitely not missing him as he wasn't on weekly shows anyways.
Gable winning the men's MITB match and cashing-in on Gunther after he wins the World Heavyweight Championship from Priest with the help of the new Alpha Academy (Creed Brothers and Ivy Nile) would be amazing
I really think we as a wrestling community should replace the term "stripped" because now I can only think of Mr Kennedy doing an in-ring strip-tease after winning the briefcase
Another tidbit from the 2020 one that I was a tiny bit surprised didn't get mentioned was Corbin trying to stop Asuka from getting the Women's briefcase
I like how Corbin's wasn't exactly 'cursed' and was more so him being punished by the soulless higher ups of WWE because he called out a crooked doctor about concussions.
There's also another unmentioned curse: winners who won their first world title via a cash-in and would go on to win the other world title would eventually get cashed in on for the other title. Edge and Del Rio cashed in for the WWE title but got cashed in on holding the WHC. Punk and Bryan cashed in for the WHC, got cashed in on holding the WWE title. Even Rollins technically won both titles when they were unified as a single title and was cashed in on when he won it a second time.
Baron didn't fail, he just got involved in a small backstage heat which took his whole career down. Since then people backstage always love him due to change in attitude maybe, but now WWE has Damian Priest in place of Baron Corbin, while Corbin is wasting his time on SmackDown 😢😢
I love all of the research and details that go into these "mini-documentaries", but it's the running gags that make these great for me. It's clearly a team of writers/producers/editors/creators who all know each other's comedic strengths/roles and how to lean into them.
Great opening. You have to have the look of shock and bewilderment on your face while climbing. Almost like you didn't know you where in an advertised, PLE, main event, ladder match.
I've seen the last two men's MITB cash-ins in person. Damian Priest's was an awesome moment in that crowd . Theory's felt like a fever dream. The best part was seeing my friend's confused as to what was actually going on.
Funny thing Oli doesn't note here, according to Edge, the original plans by the writers were to have him cash it in like RVD later would. To just guarantee a title shot at a PPV, but then he went to Vince said "Well I'm a heel. I should cash this in when someone is beaten up so bad they can't fight back. That's what the character would do." and somehow, bafflingly, Vince was the only person to agree with him. What Vince says goes, so he steamrolls that through and declares the cash in personally. When Edge hands him the briefcase, you can see Vince say something to him. According to Edge, he told him "Prove me right." Hilarious to think that the briefcase is only used in the way it is because Edge was a villain.
The most notable thing about Jack Swagger winning MITB was he was suppose to Cash in on John Cena the Raw after WM26, win and then hold the WWE Championship until SummerSlam but Cena flat out refused to drop the belt to Swagger so it was pivoted to him holding the World Title till SummerSlam...then his fued with Big Show was so bad Vince pulled the plug on Swagger's push months before SummerSlam...
I think WWE should make MITB an occasional PLE that they should do once in a while when they have a solid plan to follow. Because even though it's a cool concept, it takes a lot of planning beforehand to make a cash-in successful in long-term. Following questions should already have answers before doing a MITB event :- -Who's winning (preferably a mid-carder who's on the cusp of breakthrough). -When will the cash-in take place and on whom. -How will the subsequent title reign look like? Will it be a short reign or a longer one? -Will the cash-in be just a moment or if it will have an impact in big picture leading to a storyline. Also not doing it every year would make it less oversaturated and would bring back it's prestige.
Brilliantly done. Very interesting. Would have loved it if you had mentioned a bit more of Otis's MITB run and its terrible ending with the JBL court case. Truly shocking, and Otis has until yet never recovered from this shameful act.
People who hated Carmella's MitB run clearly have no idea how a heel holder should be portrayed. She made the briefcase her gimmick and always made it about her and her future cash-in. She was one of the better holders in the recent 10+ years and her cash-in was still really good because it not only pushed her but also gave Peyton and Billie more hype and credibility. The ONLY thing that was bad about it was their use of James (first winning the briefcase for her AND then being her pet... weird) but overall the best MitB holder on the women side side high up in general.
Her overall run with MITB wasn't bad, but her reign as Champ was. That didn't have much to do with her, though. The mistake of Charlotte beating Auska at that year's WM, then having Carmella cash-in after the IIconics laid Charlotte out, only to have Carmella beat Asuka mostly clean (other than Ellsworth wearing Auska's outfit to somehow confuse Auska to the point of being frozen in place) put a sour taste in fans mouths. Then she dropped it back to Charlotte when Becky Lynch got super over, which made her into an afterthought. Oli is really conflating the post-cash-in with the pre-cash-in.
@alexbessolo3328 her reign was terrible... but they really can't book scaredy vat evasive champions right. She was not really a threat, just lucky and had her minions. She's supposed to be the smart champion but she just looked too dependant on James.
I honestly didn't think about this. "Money in the Bank" in the long term either led to mediocre then bad reigns, or led to unfortunate events. Events that were such big deals, we wonder what could've been.
I've been waiting for a group to "invade" a MitB ladder match and take everyone out and just leave with the briefcase. There's been a couple of groups that I thought could/should have done this in the past, this year it could be the Bloodline. They could lose the tag match with Rhodes, Orton, and Owens, then come in after 20 minutes of the ladder match to take out the last few people and take the briefcase for Solo
I heard that Mr. Kennedy got fired for almost breaking Randy's neck and Randy Orton went into Vince's office and said he goes where I go. That's what I heard about him dropping the briefcase
Imagine if Swagger and Miz had had the briefcase concurrently though, like in retrospect that seems like a missed opportunity. Granted the chosen winners would have limited it greatly but like if you didn't book Morrison in a random tag match at Mania could we have seen a Miz and Morrison briefcase unification ladder match at the 2010 Summerslam?
I was there at summerslam and watched sky cash in and was talking to a friend and was like watch a cash in is about to happen. Not 2 seconds later her music hit.
I would suggest looking closer at some of these win loss 15:31 percentages just because I don’t feel like Ziggler got beat via being pinned himself often feel like I remember him winning a lot in the buildup
Surprised no one has said when miz brags about beating john cena , no one has said yeah well you dont even remember it, ya know cause he had a concussion
Corbin didn't trip over the rope, Cena tripped him as Baron cashed in after a John & Jinder snoozefest and was "jawjacking" with Cena all the way to the ring, I remember bc Cena Heel Turn Confrimdod IWC went feral. Means up until Brock stopped Braun, Cena was involved in every failed MITB cash-in, and if you count Miz's 2020 "oh but Morrison cashed in not me!" shenanigans as a failed cash in despite him getting the case back, Cena is in half of all MITB fails
"These documentaries cost a lot of money to make." I can imagine, all the ladders and lightbulbs that must have been broken during filming really add up.
0:18 CLIMB THAT LADDER, KID! MAKE YOURSELF FAMOUS
Hearing with Jim Ross voice
Hearing with Lord Alfred Hayes voice
Hearing with Frank Sinatra’s voice.
The accuracy of that opening skit 😂
“Mr Kennedy”
*goes to ad*
*comes back from ad*
“Kennedy”
Well played
That opening bit is something else man 😂
"No, don't go down..."
So hilariously accurate 😂
@@michaeld1889I mean that is how you climb for later after all.

I never noticed that but you’re right. Man their story was so poetic.
Luke climbing a ladder just the way a wrestler should😂😂
27:30 you forgot the most important part: he cashed in on an open challenge 😂
I'm confused...
I looked up the results of that night. From what I read, Lashley beat down Seth and then Theory attempted the cash in. I'm not seeing anything about an open challenge. Am I missing something?
@@Nintendofan4000 Yeah, Seth, before Lashley's beatdown, issued an open challenge for the night for anyone to accept
The accuracy of that opening skit god bless You Luke😂😂😂

Remember cm punk won it 2 times
When Luke started climbing, I knew he wasn’t the one that could actually pull the lightbulb down
The loss percentage prior to the briefcase was a great touch
“No don’t go back down”
sometimes you go high, sometimes you go low, sometimes you reach the top... and then brock lesnar's music hits and you suddenly freeze.
According to Ace Attorney, that's a stepladder.
The opening is Too Funny 😂😂
"Dammit, Luke-stop reading Oli's teleprompter!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Some say Luke is still climbing the ladder to this day. Climb high my son.
Perfect way to start a Saturday…WrestleTalk Essay…now just to figure out how Luke got so damn good at climbing a ladder
The Sandow loss still hurts. You're telling me he couldnt have a week long reign!
That opening alone got my like. Great work!
That opening ladder spot had me tears. 😂
The match where edge got his nickname, "ultimate opportunist".
The ad placement between the two "Kennedy"s was really great
Having the ad break placed directly between the two "Kennedy"'s was absolutely perfect... One of the very few rare moments where I actually enjoyed a commercial break
Bro i DID NOT get an ad during that part so i was sooo confused 😭😭
0:52 *TODAY LUKE, TODAY!!*
Not gonna lie, I thought Tempest was going to give Luke a Canadian Destroyer off the ladder.
10/10 ladder joke, I do that everytime I climb a ladder at work.
I forgot how bad they did Big E man. He deserved so much more.
How did he deserve anything?
Do it, Luke!!! make yourself famous kid!!
-J.R probably

I remember being so deflated after Theory won MitB 2022, and then he cashed it in for the US title… and LOST! Felt like a waste of a winner tbh
Crazy how many careers Brock has burried and done nothing to push younger talent. So happy that's he's gone from wwe, definitely not missing him as he wasn't on weekly shows anyways.
Looking the US Presidential Debate memes is crazy how money in the bank has become a mainstream concept
Im still pissed that Kennedy didnt reach his full potential in wwe
One of the best ones yet from this channel, which is indeed saying a lot. Great gag’s throughout too!
“Damnit Luke stop reading my teleprompter!”

Ahh mr.kennedy and edge 2 mitb winners who have been stripped one way or another
A 69 day reign. Nice!
I don't know about curses but Kennedy had terrible injury luck, Rob liked weed, and Swagger just... bad Swagger.
Tiffany Stratton wins the MITB briefcase and cashes in at Wrestlemania in Las Vegas on, I assume, Charlotte Flair.
Been really enjoying these videos lately, good job lads! 👏
Excellent sketch at the start.
Another tidbit from the 2020 one that I was a tiny bit surprised didn't get mentioned was Corbin trying to stop Asuka from getting the Women's briefcase
LOL!! THE FIRST 30 SECONDS IS MONEY! 😂😂😂
Luke “climbing” the ladder had me dead 😂
MITB has slowly gotten worse. Same with the Rumble. So many people winning these matches and then losing the cash in / mania match
Another great video! I love these documentary videos!
Hearing Oli yelling “god damn it Luke” always pops me
That opening bit was perfect XD
the opening about "life is like a ladder match" made me bust out laughing
The opening genuinely made me laugh out loud
I like how Corbin's wasn't exactly 'cursed' and was more so him being punished by the soulless higher ups of WWE because he called out a crooked doctor about concussions.
You guys are hilarious lol thanks for the laughs. Everybody climbing the ladder doing the slow motion grab
Great video, guys! I love these chronicle videos that walk through all the history aspects that don’t always get talked about!
The opening bit is just so perfect! 😂 "no don't go back down" made me DIE
This may be the best acting from Oli in the channel history. Pete, Luke and El Fakidor have trained Him well 😂💪🏻

Great opening. You have to have the look of shock and bewilderment on your face while climbing. Almost like you didn't know you where in an advertised, PLE, main event, ladder match.
Fun as this video was, I was more distracted by Luke wearing that John Carpenter t-shirt. Classy man
This was brilliant!! Having the WT hosts taking the entire video to climb the ladder was hilarious and great commentary about the match itself 🤣

Brilliantly done. Very interesting. Would have loved it if you had mentioned a bit more of Otis's MITB run and its terrible ending with the JBL court case. Truly shocking, and Otis has until yet never recovered from this shameful act.
