Those replacement PSUs work but they are electronically noisy and you may notice the red LED flickering as it struggles to keep the voltages at the proper level. You may also see random visual artifacts or static in the video because of this. Also, when you use these with an ODE, such as the X-Station, you'll notice they tend to randomly crash. It also has trouble with a Memcard PRO.
I eventually gave up on mine and put the original PSU back into my the console because I prefer my X-Station be stable.. Yes, it puts out more heat, but it's been very stable in comparison

interestingly, I've found the exact opposite to be true, the OEM PSU generates a lot more noise and causes crashes (in addition to more heat!). Haven't had a single issue with the RePSX PSU I've put in a 5501.

Actually good first video that YT suggested, good edition, clear voice audio, and kinda funny too! Subscribing!

You forgot to mention that this mod is half external power. This means that you have to conecct a 12 volts power supply to your console.

Another update to my update: In the end, I swapped the new replacement power supply with the old one. The LED light was flickering like crazy (even with actual PS1 memory cards). I thought it was a fault with the PS1 motherboard but I removed the cable between the PSU and motherboard and the flickering continued. Also I turned the PSU off, unplugged it from the actual AC power-bar, then turned on the PSU and it STILL had power for at least 15 seconds. Be careful with that PSU.

I really appreciate the video, but I've got an idea: what if in the extra space of the brand new power supply you put a fan to lower the temperature? That will be amazing! 😁

No point this psu already lowers the amount of heat in the console by a significant margin

    6 kilo Watts? Just 6 Watts... :)

What stands are you using to prop up your consoles in your collection display? That setup looks sweet, and I've been looking for a good solution like that.

Great video! After a few months use, how is the power supply doing? I have a PS1 and thinking of getting one.

It's worked great for me since I got it

@@BodyslamGaming Thanks for letting me know. I put it in a Japanese SCPH-7000 model I refurbished myself and it works great. However, the power supply chinese instructions said the PISO card (I don't have one) in quick boot is not compatible but PISO regular boot works fine.

UPDATE to my other message on here. I bought one (the same white v2.0 as in the video) It still works BUT the RED LED started to flicker big time when I put in an older 3rd party memory card. That card was really drawing power on that power supply. I thought It was going to blow a fuse on the PS1. I've had to replace the fuses before on a PS1 and 3rd party memory cards or controllers have been known to be the cause of blown PS1 fuses. As for the power supply I'm going to continue to use it but not sure if this version is good quality because of the LED flicker.

I don't have any third party stuff since they're usually not that great to use so I can't verify for myself but if that is the case, thanks for bringing that up! 👍

@@BodyslamGaming Yep I was trying to get an old save off that card and my PS2 doesn't read the card but my PS1 did. I think the power supply is ok now. I'll be very careful with what memory cards I use on my PS1 in the future. Also I'm thinking of putting new caps on the board as the machine is over 25 years old now and they may start to leak.

Be careful with this bitfunx. It has wrong cap values. Fake regulators and incorrect reset logic. I wonder if your machine is still working properly

Before this you should ALWAYS unplug it for a day so the capacitor is discharged or check if it has still charge. If it's charged and you touch it it can kill you, because of the remaining current.

Shutup, you don't know what you're talking about. This is a PS1 power supply, not a TV. Google it, the Schematics for the PS1 power supply are online. The 120 VAC section of the PSU doesn't hold a charge once it's unplugged. The highest DC voltage that comes out of it is 8v and it's filter caps are discharged by the LED as soon as you turn it off. You don't need to wait a a day.

I actually found someone has done this 1 YEAR ago youtube is BS I searched for PSU videos so many times, people have done testing in BEST consoles its 30% interference just in the audio alone... the temperature are you kiding me the original PSU gets HOT HOT even when the dam thing is OFF. The only thing I fear is the wall wort that comes with this power supply it looks like trash I plan on getting a tri like retro RGB uses

Metric means NOTHING to me. How about using a real temperature (Fahrenheit)?
How about giving the make, model for that power supply kit?

in the time it took you to type that up, you could've easily Googled it and gotten the conversion. I don't use metric either, but I'm also not a douche about people that do.

Japan uses metric. If you're American why not design your own console/electronics using inches ? good luck 😆
