Never have I made a bow from a blank of wood in the round. But I have built things relying a lot by eye, simple measurement & hand tools. It is most satisfying and most modern people will find it so because these procedures have become so rare
Bought book about week ago. Solid read with lots of information. So many things I realized I was doing wrong. I just started my bow making project about 2 months ago. So far I'm 0-4. Lol. Book will help a ton
I watched the entire thing, regretted nothing. When the "straightening required" moment happened I giggled and couldn't help thinking "mmmm..just a bit" and in seconds it was straight and looking incredible. This video was artistry.
One of the most intriguing and impressive things I've watched. Such a great video and a wonderful skill you'll seemingly mastered. Good on you, bro. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for making a sapling bow. Ive been working with maple saplings, its nice to see someone else make a twisty bow. Also, quite like how you used the natural curve of the tree for your recurve. Something ive been trying, but haven't followed thru. Very encouraging.
If you put some sand or maybe even some gravel in your tillering pulleys and salt up the internal mechanism of your tillering scale you can have a nice pleasant experience tillering while being driven to deafness by all the jarring screeching and grinding of your equipment. So nice, you'll want to do it twice.
Thank you! Can't explain excactly why I've built it this way. It was just my vision. Nevertheless there is a design called "Mollegabet" and it's basing on this style static but a bit longer tips
Once again a beautiful bow! Did you choose the light draw weight because of the snakyness of the Limbs or because of the overall small diameter of the stave? Thanks!
Thank you sir! I was aiming a bit higher - for 30-35 lb but due to overall stave character and my mistake (I removed too much wood at the single spot) it ended up 25 lb. Still happy with it!
I’ve said it before and I’m going say it again, that’s beutiful craftsmanship. You are truly a master of your craft. Also are you going to add a learher grip to it or something similiar to the bow?
how did you make the arrows and from what? Never made my own from scratch (just assembled from fletches, nock and head). Always thought that making decent arrow shafts would be more difficult than making a selfwood bow.
Here is my video from making these arrows: th-cam.com/video/lQNff8jD3cQ/w-d-xo.html I bought fletches and head. Well, I have little experience with arrows, currently making another hazel set. Love dog rose as a material for shafts
Nice snaky bow. Shoots well. I made a similar yew bow, shorter with recurved tips. It has a sinew back and pulls about 45#. Yours would increase if you shortened it and added sinew, should you want that. It would shoot much more harshly, though, and the draw length would decrease. Good seeing you wearing a mask, yew dust is toxic!
@@totallylegalshit7579 by the time you pound up those tendons, you will have a lot of thread like strands, maybe a paper grocery bag full. They should be 4 to 8 inches long. Then you need some hide glue, I used Mrs. Brown's Cold Hide Glue, from Lee Valley. It doesn't require heat. Then, starting at the grip, layer the strings of tendon across tbe back of the bow working your way up the length of the bow and overlapping each section. When you reach the tip, start on the other end of the bow, working up to it's tip. Once you're finished, allow it to dry/cure for several days. If you have more tendon, start over with another layer. Do as many as you have tendon for. Three or four layers will make very powerful and resilent bow. You can use a file, sandpaper and hot water to smooth and finish the backing. Once the glue has cured completely, maybe three or four weeks depending on the humidity, carefully begin stretching the backing, taking several days to condition it to full draw. You may have to re-tiller the bow depending on how much stronger it gets. I have even used sinew and hide glue as patches to reinforce weak spots/splinters in an otherwise unbacked bow. Have fun.
When you make a bow that ends up at only 25#, try shooting it with 2 fingers instead of 3. It will release much cleaner and shoot faster. Seriously, go try it right now!
Thank you! I was seasoning it for over a year, but I don't know how long was it seasoned before (I bought it). It definetely could be done much quicker

Thank you sir! I'm happy to hear that.
Excellent - and I am amazed that just gluing the horn overlays, or in some cases horn tips, actually lasts
Thank you! Yes, if well clamped works great
Interesting bow! Nice work as always!
Thank you sir!
wow nice work
that was a pleasure to watch :D
Glad you liked it! Thanks!
Nice job, it came out really nice.
Thank you!
Oh my, that is so beautiful! The stinker in me is thinking though, that is a bow asking to be sinew backed with three good layers.
Glad you like it sir! Have to get some sinew then!
That's a beauty
Appreciate it!
Well done brother, that is an impressive skill that is very much appreciated by me.

Idk that much about wood but that don't really look like a yew wood branch but still cool.
Thanks!
Nice and wiggly. 👍
Thanks!
This is a beautiful bow. I'm amazed.
Can I ask why you chose to go for the narrow static tips? Was it just an aesthetic choice?
Thank you! Can't explain excactly why I've built it this way. It was just my vision. Nevertheless there is a design called "Mollegabet" and it's basing on this style static but a bit longer tips

Hola muy bueno tu trabajo lindo arco bella madera saludos
Thank you! Greetings from Poland!
Very nice!
Sweet!!
Thank you!
@@DreamcraftBows very welcome 😀
Τι ξύλο είναι ? Ευχαριστώ πολύ
It is european yew (Taxus baccata)
Color contrast with yew looks so good also unique how the sap/heartwood work together. Do you cut the yew yourself?
Yes, it's very special! No, I've never cut yew wood. It's protected species here and can be bought only occasionally
Exelent bow its a beauty but Isnt yew toxic?
howlong did you dry this wood and how?
It was seasoned with the bark on at least 2 years. But the time needed to dry it is much shorter
Very nice work ! How long have you had left wood drying before shaping the bow ?
Thank you very much! A few years, but a few months would be enough
Great video My Brother! How long start to finish?
Thank you my friend! Approx 15 hours I guess
@@DreamcraftBows that's all! GOOD LORD! I thought maybe months. Ha ha ha
I was a bit unclear here. The wood was seasoned approx 2 years. But 15 hours is pure work time.

How much sinew to back a 65 inch bow?
I have four short cords from a blacktail doe, would i need a thick layer, or just strands?

Ótimo, o arco ficou muito bom.

Light....but ....nice!!!
Yes sir, it makes me sad too... Thank you!
Will a sapling only make a lower poundage bow or?…
Depends on the particular piece. If it's thicker sure it will make a more powerful bow
Nice
Thanks!
Cara eu sou muito fã seu eu gosto muito do seu trabalho como que eu faria que encomendar um arco
Thank you!! Appreciate it!
Super
Thank you!
Seems like this stave would have been better as an HLD. Have you tried this design before?
Yes, I've made a few hollow limb bows too (videos on my channel)
What kind of wood finish is that?
Water based varnish
Great job 👏 This is the exact video I was looking for. How long did you season the stave?
