    Hey all. I had many messages saying the data link wasn't working. I've since fixed that, so enjoy! Thanks for letting me know!

    Wow! The first 7 minutes was the most useful info about levels, curves and setting the black and white points than I've found anywhere....thanks so much!!🙏🙏

    Thanks for the video! One big thing you may know by now (since this video was uploaded in 2019) is when you apply a curves adjustment layer you really really REALLY need to set the type to "Luminosity". This way it will not affect color balance whatsoever. It will only affect the light. Also, for cropping, just press "c" and use the crop tool. You can even set it to not actually delete the pixels it crops in case you need to recover them and redo.

  • @AstroFarsography
    @AstroFarsography  5 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    It was noted that I should have cropped at the beginning as the black borders affect the histogram and black point. For this image I felt it unnecessary but it is definitely best practice to crop near the beginning before the first balance :)

    This is the tutorial I always wanted. As a PS user myself it's confirmed some aspects I know already and do well. More importantly it has shown me what I can do better. This has also added understanding to what I was doing but lacked the knowledge why...it just did it so was fine with it.
    Loving these videos you are producing....thank you

    Thank you so much for this. I used my own photo but followed your work flow and it turned out waaaayyyyy better than if I had ever tried it on my own. As others have said, and coming from someone who taught for 30 years, you are a terrific teacher. Lots of explanations as to WHY you are doing something rather than just "Do it this way". Well done and I'm looking forward to more of your tutorials.

    Hello Ruzeen, thank you very much for this tutorial, it was very useful! Thank you also for sharing your picture and for giving me the opportunity to work on really good data to test post-processing on it. Very beautiful picture, by the way! I would like to share with you a tip about minimizing the stars: when you do the "Minimum" filter, choose "Preserve - Roundness", on the drop down menu, instead of "Squareness". This will give you the opportunity to select a radius with decimals. Also, I noticed the "Preserve - Roundness" allows for more round shaped stars (the "Squareness" option turns the stars into diamonds, expecially if overdone). Thanks again and clear skies!

    Ruzeen, hey bud., Twitter Follower here. Just a shout out that within 2 minutes you already taught me more about processing Astro than many other prominent videos. Thanks for explaining the histogram and what the "white mid and blackpoint" mean, and why you can squish in the sliders (since theres no data there anyway.) Just these subtle tips are great for Novices like me because it doesn't assume we know what this stuff means. Looking forward to processing my OWN DSO subs today with this new info !

    Hey Ruzeen. This is without doubt the most helpful editing / processing video I’ve come across on TH-cam. Really well described and easy to follow. I for one will be giving this a go as processing is my biggest weakness at the minute and I can see why as I wasn’t doing most of what you’ve shown 😂
    Great tutorial 👍🏻

    Many thanks, very well explained and a comprehensive tutorial. I only started taking astro shots back in August. I am happy that I am capturing good detailed images but had no idea as to how to get the magnificent nebulae cloud effects I see in images such as the one you have worked on here. I feel like I have just put my little toe on the first rung of a very long ladder!!

    Anyone having issues with the trying to create a threshold layer with their own photo; the photo needs to be 16 bit otherwise PS will not let you create that particular layer. Only took me 45 mins to figure that out.

  • @jmseldon
    @jmseldon 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great tutorial. You have a good way of explaining things. I just followed along and got it looking pretty reasonable. My only issue is I use an unmodded DSLR and I am in a fairly light -polluted area. So whenever I try the first level adjustments, I pull out loads of vignetting and gradients. By the time I have got rid of these in APP (or PI or whatever) the image is really noisy, and after a couple of stretches the histogram is ruined. Any tips for getting better data?

    I'm rather new to Astrophotography but not in photography itself. I use Photoshop for over 10 years now and the question is why people in this kind of tutorials always use a stamp visible layer and do some adjustments on that layer. Isn't it better to do all the adjustments (destructive or not) and play with opacity? When exporting for the Web, you can save a nice JPEG, crop it a bit more without loosing all changes..

    I want to start using photoshop but am not sure if I should buy it up front or pay a monthly leasing fee. What version are you using? Is Photo Shop Elements ok to use? It is much cheaper, but I’m not if it is ok with astrophotography. Thanks.

    • @AstroFarsography
      @AstroFarsography  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use the monthly subscription model, Photoshop CC and that's fine with Astrophotography. I've not looked into elements but I can foresee it having much of the needed tools. If you're after a free software or something else then have you looked at GIMP? I did this same tutorial but using GIMP also.

    • @AstroFarsography
      @AstroFarsography  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, the nice thing about editing is how we see our images differently :) so whilst I liked it at 50, you'd do it at 33 and that's absolutely fine
