The service time was the problem for the astros. Tucker was a rental. This was about as good as the astros were going to get. They got about the best they were going to get. At least they got something. Instead of letting him walk. They would have got less at the deadline. The astros were good enough to win the division that's it that's as far as they were going.
I felt Kyle Tucker was pretty offended by not getting that $2.5m in arbitration and not getting a good extension offer when Yordan got one. No way Tucker would give Astros a hometown discount. Regardless of Crane's dislike of longterm deals, Tucker would be gone in a year. Not saying I love the trade, just that there was no resigning Tucker.
I guess they felt like Kyle tucker wasn’t going to stay so they at least wanted something for it. When shohei left the angels they had nothing because they wouldn’t trade him. Will miss him though, he’s a great player.
Exactly. We know we won’t be able to re-sign him next year so it was get something for him now or get zip next year. Also hoping this means we may be able to keep Bregman. And we’re hearing Paredes at 1st.
He is good. Crawford seats will be perfect for him. I like the trade for the Cubs bc I didn’t expect them to move for a guy like Tucker but it seems pretty fair. Hopefully they offer him an extension
Paredes is a average to good defender and all his power is to LF. So, he'll hit way more HR in Houston than in Chicago. Wesneski (not Wesnooski 🙄) has great stuff but hasn't been able to put it together. Maybe new coaches can help him.
Not sure who won the trade, obviously short term is the Cubs. Long term, who knows. But who for sure lost are Houston Astros fans. Because this was the final confirmation that Jim Crane will NEVER give out that big contract that will draw that star power into staying or coming to Houston. Tucker is going to get big $$ come free agency, Houston knew it, and said NOPE. If not Kyle Tucker, then who?
Houston doing Houston`s things... People in Houston knows better... It is what it is.. and Maybe Breg is leaving for 1 hot dog and 1 taco. This is how they operate.
Another thing about the trade is the astros were holding out till wisneski was included. That means they saw something. If that's the case he will be good. The astros are the best at making pitching better. Look at what they did with Kikuchi
@jasontamras4623 no offense dude .I like the cubs always have. But the astros are a better organization at turning pitching around. If they were asking for him they saw something.
Reports are that Crane does not want to go over the next CBT threshold and signing Bregman would have nearly send them over that limit if they kept Tucker on the team. Trading Tucker frees up ~$20M for next year which can be spent to address the problems at 1B/OF. The ALW does not seem to be getting any better (Rangers owner said they wanted to reduce payroll, Angels and A's are not serious contenders, no one knows what Dipoto is thinking). The Astros can reasonably still win the division next year without having to go over that self-imposed salary cap. The team has $50M of dead money in Jose Abreu, Montero, and LMC Jr that comes off the books for 2026. This offseason is not over. Let's see how they allocate Tucker's salary (and possibly Bregman's), but I think Crane is ensuring they are under that threshold for 2025 and then going to shell out the money needed for a 2026 reload. I just thought it was going to be Framber being traded and not Tucker.
Astros did very well during Tucker’s injury last season. They don’t need him to win. And getting some value for him was the right move. I think it’s a weak return because Dana Brown constantly gets owned by other GMs, but it’s something.
Sounds like Peredes will play 1b if we resign Bregman. I don’t see why not. We do have money coming off the books after next year. Who knows…. Astros could go after Tucker in 2026
Guess this means the Cubs most likely move on from Cody Bellinger. The thing about Bellinger which gives you extra flexibility is that he can play first, as well as the OF.
Ben, you are missing the forest for the trees here. The Astros have tons of dead weight this season with the Abreu & Montero contract and he wasn’t going to sign with us next season since Crane won’t sign over 6 year contracts. In exchange we got good value for 2026 and beyond when we don’t have that deadweight to go get players. We made the best of an expiring contract unlike we did with Correa, Springer, Cole, Melton, and soon Bregman. I’m not happy with it, but I’m not going to be devastated next season when we lose him for nothing.
Astros aren't playing contract jackpot ball so traded Tucker for value so if that is their philosophy it's a smart move. Does it work out? How often does a trade like this pan out, less times usually. Tucker playing 81 games at Wrigley with his power is a smart play as it will boost his long-term contract after the rental.
I’m a die hard Houston Sports Fan, and I can say without a doubt the Cubs won this trade, even with Tucker being a rental. Now that being said, this trade is going to hurt even worse if we let Breggy walk………………….. As it sits we gotta have the worst outfield in baseball right now with Tucker gone………….. Hopefully the Astros go snag Teoscar Hernandez before he is gone 👀💯
Am I seeing this right? They got parades until 28 and Hayden until 30 Plus a blue chip prospect. I actually like that trade for Houston especially given that Astros seem to be like Tampa and squeeze juice out of pitchers.
Kyle tucker is my all time favorite player. This is undoubtedly the saddest day of my Astros fandom, even worse than 2019 game 7. Worse than 2005 World Series. He better get like $700 million, because we just gave away a HOFer for some okay players
KT is going for a big, long-term deal and Astros won’t pay per company policy, so getting some immediate needs in exchange for him makes sense. Given the likely scenario KT gets his big contract it most likely won’t be with the Cubs, if that does occur, Astros win on this trade.
SOOOO STUPID!! LET BREG WALK. AT 27, THIS IS THE CHEAPEST 10 YEAR DEAL ANYONE WILL EVER GET TUCKER FOR. DANA BROWN LOST US EVERYTHING. ISSAC PAREDES IS A GOOD PULL 3B. .235 AVG? THIS TRADE WAS A FREAK OFF. DANA BROWN: You and Bagwell need to be fired.
The Astros got fleeced again just like the Mets Verlander deal. James Click was a better GM. Cubs gave up nothing. I don't plan on watching them going forward. Jim Crane ruined this team by bringing in Jeff Bagwell.
Why not just keep kyle tucker this feels like a package you'd expect had tucker been traded at the deadline instead of 1 full year before free agency gotta pray cam Smith is elite otherwise this gonna be on those worst trades of the last 10 years lists TH-camrs & bloggers make 😂😂😂
Astros will only win 75-78 games next year. Book it. The Rangers will win the Division and another World Series. Astros will be in 3rd place in the division.
WHO WON THE TRADE?
Cubs got away with highway robbery
The service time was the problem for the astros. Tucker was a rental. This was about as good as the astros were going to get. They got about the best they were going to get. At least they got something. Instead of letting him walk. They would have got less at the deadline. The astros were good enough to win the division that's it that's as far as they were going.
I really wanted Suzuki included in this deal along with the 3 players. Otherwise, the astros got fleeced.
Astros easily. They got 3 players for a guy they couldn't re-sign. The Cubs got a one year rental. Terrible trade for the Cubs.
Tucker is one of the best in the league. Package definitely was not enough
I felt Kyle Tucker was pretty offended by not getting that $2.5m in arbitration and not getting a good extension offer when Yordan got one. No way Tucker would give Astros a hometown discount. @ I’m hoping so! They aren’t stupid.
I wanted Luis Gil so bad…..
Good pickup for the Cubs. Wow. Good stuff Ben!
The Cubs are getting a great baseball player and person. Thanks for the memories, Kyle.
Paredes can play 3B and 1B. I think Paredes is an upgrade over Singleton at 1B. Paredes will probably hit 25HR in Houston. Crawford box!
32 homeruns easily.
He'll play 3rd as Bregman is going to leave.
Maybe new coaches can help him.
houston wasn’t gonna pay kyle tucker 300-350M in FA.
The Tucker trade may allow the Astros to resign Bregman & possibly go after Santander on a 3 year deal.
It is disappointing to see Houston trade Tucker away. He is a cornerstone franchise player.
FACTS
Ben the win here and now ended last season its rebuild time
Cubs need Trade Bellinger. Seiya DH, Matt Shaw 3rd base, Nico 2nd. Busch 1st base. King Tucker RF, PCA center Field, Happ LF, Swanson SS
As much as I would love to hold onto Belly, it seems like the right thing to do is to trade him. Hopefully get a nice arm in return.
Good luck with trading Bellinger. His $27.5 million contract is much too big to trade, unless Chicago is willing to pay about 50% of $27.5 million.
They could move Busch to 3rd, and Bellinger to 1st full time.
Not sure who won the trade, obviously short term is the Cubs. Long term, who knows. But who for sure lost are Houston Astros fans. Tucker is going get $300 to $500 million. Astros won't give that deal.
Until baseball fixes its economics and revenues get shared equally, this will be the case. The NFL and NBA have figured it out.
Houston doing Houston`s things... People in Houston knows better... It is what it is.. and Maybe Breg is leaving for 1 hot dog and 1 taco. This is how they operate.
Houston has a better hitter in Alvarez
Another thing about the trade is the astros were holding out till wisneski was included. That means they saw something. If that's the case he will be good. The astros are the best at making pitching better. Look at what they did with Kikuchi
Cubs fan here. Wisneski is solid, but not great. He can probably get you between a 3.3-3.6 era next year which is good.
@jasontamras4623 no offense dude .I like the cubs always have. But the astros are a better organization at turning pitching around. If they were asking for him they saw something.
@ oh 100 percent Houston is a better organization at just pretty much everything. Yeah he could turn out to be really solid who knows?
Now it makes sense why the Astros were saying Tucker was hurt for 3 months! He was unhappy with the arbitration!
Wish the package was better. But we couldn’t keep him there was no way we were resigning him .cam smith better damn good
Tucker only had 1 year on his contract, so the Cubs weren’t giving up too much.
Reports are that Crane does not want to go over the next CBT threshold and signing Bregman would have nearly send them over that limit if they kept Tucker on the team. Great move by Houston.
They did this because we are FOR SURE out on Bregman.

Astros can't win WS in 2025 now, they had a shot with Tucker.
@@MojoJM Tucker has been terrible in the playoffs for half a decade with lots of opportunities. He's not the cornerstone of a November run.
@@CaffyPvP I do agree because he was absolutely horrible against my Rangers last year in the ALCS. But still, it hurts the team overall.
I think since tucker underperforms in the postseason compared to the regular season played a part in them trading him honestly
Sounds like Peredes will play 1b if we resign Bregman. I don’t see why not. We do have money coming off the books after next year. Who knows…. Astros could go after Tucker in 2026

6:35, defense and arm have started to become suspect Ben

Pretty sure the Astros have been shopping him since the Soto signing
Might as well trade Framber also.
I don’t believe Tucker was going to sign. So we get what we can get.
Cam Smith 1.174 OPS at A ball last year. Hit .316.
He was promoted from A to A+ to AA and each time his numbers declined. He has done absolutely nothing to suggest he is even close to being MLB ready.
We don’t give a fuck how you feel for Houston! We happy asf in Chicago 🔥🔥🔥🔥
HAHA AMEN
Enjoy the rental, he will sign for 500mil elsewhere in 2026

I don't think Soto is Soto. I think he's way over rated. Just compare stats. Average, Hits, HR, RBI, SB etc...
Love seeing my team get good value for one year of Tuck. We love him, but he will want 500mil.
i'm with you.
Wowwwww. Can't believe it

Watch him slump next year in Chirack
It sucks. We got screwed.
Cubs gave up Perades an all star, a good pitcher and a stud in the minors for a 1 year rental
Paredes is not an All-Star, Wesneski is a very average pitcher and Smith has done nothing yet. Cubs won this trade easily.
westnooski?
Astros were gonna lose him anyway. So how is this bad for Houston?
Because they don't have a chance of winning the WS this year without Tucker.
@@MojoJM You seem to forget he goes missing in post season.
@@akitas8165 Sure but who do they have at RF now? The Astros need to match A. Garcia in TX. Good luck!

The Astros are no longer inevitable
It’s called welcome to the rebuild lol no way in Hell Crane was paying 3-400 milli or more than 6 years
You're not wrong. Rebuild time!
I promise Astros won this because our scouting are second to none. If they wanted these players there all going to contribute
This is the worse news to get on my birthday
Hate to lose Tucker but he will be owed money that the Astros can't afford. Better get something than nothing.
You're 100% right, Astros blew this one
Yeah Dana could have gotten more closer to the season.
Cubs are renting a player. He will go to the dodgers or Mets. Injury prone player. When he is healthy very
good.
"Injury prone" ?? What absolute nonsense.
ugh.
Great, it makes the Astros worse!
Cam Smith might be the future first baseman for Astros. Not 3b, but 1b
Astros will only win 75-78 games next year. Book it. The Rangers will win the Division and another World Series. Astros will be in 3rd place in the division.
Hahhaa you def outta ur effinnn mind 😂😅😅
😊
Disagree it’s a great trade Cam smith is a stud
No, he is a prospect who has done nothing except hit well in Low A and A+. He has a long way to go.
