Hello PLA, as we aren't a Devialet dealer, we can't make a comparison. But at Fall Classic, we were playing a bass heavy track on Horizon, and a consumer asked us to play that song on the Model 10 / 801's system. While it sounded much better on the big rig, we were impressed at how good Horizon was for so much less. We look forward to when you can hear it yourself
I think the combination of lifestyle and audio does certainly have a crowd, but in these price ranges it's a small percentage. B&O is mostly tackling that crowd as well with established dealerships and recognizable brand identity in that category. I do applaud the boldness of Marantz and it will be interesting to see if they can pull this of. I'll keep the popcorn close by.
Thanks Matthias for your thoughts. Yes, it's a bold move. We see others also offering more lifestyle gear, and with Marantz and Bowers being part of the same family, they have the audio chops to make these sound really good. Consumers listened and gave them a big thumbs up the last 2 nights at our Fall Classic
Nice system, a bit pricey, about not out of reach for sure. Like HEOS, but the absence of Qobuz keeps me from using it, and products like the Horizon and Grand Horizon. Thanks for the info, always informative.
Amazing design. What are the prices per speaker and pair? It’s rare that you see a product that matches or outshines B&O. Last product I saw that surprised me as much visually was the Naim Mu-so 2nd gen light wood edition.
Hi Tech Samurai, these are remarkable products, and a surprise - we did not expect them! Pricing in USD we're told is $5,500 for Grand Horizon, $3,500 for Horizon. A single creates a very convincing soundstage, but you can add a second for a stereo pair. Reach out to us if you like: ask@gramophone.com
I still personally think the B&O A9 would be better, this could be better than a balance though. This gives off a devialet mixed with B&O feeling or is it just me 😅
Hello RXonmymind - yes, you can pair two of them for a stereo pair. As it is a HEOS enabled product, you can also combine it with more Horizons, or any of the other HEOS enabled devices, allowing you to control multiple rooms - essentially a whole house audio system without needing to run wires.
Design cues an engineering from high-end companies like this also go into what the typical buyer likes also go into concepts for the things that they don't like but when it's not what they want all of a sudden it's all negative

Thanks Chris, yes - it's the most interesting audio product design to come along in some time. With the Marantz and Bowers & Wilkins tech and engineering background on board, Marantz created a product that sounds really impressive to us
$3500 for the Horizon, $5500 for the Grand Horizon.........I think Marantz is stepping deep into the "more money than sense" crowd. I'm all for upgraded all in one's, but are you really saying it sounds that much better than the McIntosh RS-250 or the new Cambridge Audio Eco One?
Hello Sakio, while we haven't a / b demo'd them against those two, we can share that the consumers at our event last night agree - both sound great, and look really cool. We were especially impressed with Horizon. For it's size and price, it sounds amazing
Hi Joe, good question. Marantz and Denon have invested quite a bit in the Heos app, which is quite good and allows you to control all functions from across the room. So many folks have smart devices these days - for many, a remote is redundant.
I do like omnidirectional speakers which is s point in it's favour but I still need two for stereo. Last I checked music is still recorded in at least two channels. Two Grand Horizons... that's mighty expensive. There's just too much astonishingly good lifelike sounding competition some of which sells very moderately (eg., Elac). That's going to be a tough sell for Marantz. I hope the good looks help.
Hello Sock, agreed - Horizon is not for everyone. Between the Marantz, Denon, and Bowers / Definitive / Polk etc. brands, they have plenty of conventional products for audio video consumers. They wanted to also appeal to lifestyle conscious consumers who they had not been appealing to - a reasonable choice
Hi Thevikingcam, it doesn't have full surround capabilities, but there are plenty of products that do, so feel free to reach out to us: ask@gramophone.com
Agreed. Tops Grand Horizon $3500 and go down from there. Especially if you can't daisy chain them. Meaning one speaker to play multiple speakers throughout the home. So let's say you have a mansion and want one throughout your 10,000 ft home then one can have 8 of them playing wherever you go seamlessly. Maybe it's just a simple software update they could do that.
Hello Sugar, yes, you can pair twin Horizon or Grand Horizon for a stereo pair. Also, as they are Marantz products, they can be part of a whole home wireless system (a virtual chain) by using the HEOS app: skybygramophone.com/search?q=HEOS
They were talking about their multi room integration. Say you have some people over and people are moving around room to room, Heos allows you to play the same music, perfectly synced in every room. Not likely to be used often, but is a nice party trick, quite literally. When a manufacturer is hyping a product, but leave out the price, be very worried. Now that I have seen pricing in this thread, hard no on these products.
@@jaredhylton6591 I understand the flexibility offered as part of an ecosystem, but that still does not explain his specific mention of the AMP 10 or AVR. Playing different tunes in different zones has nothing to do with the aforementioned equipment.
@gregitingen again, whole home audio with Heos is about being able to play audio in whatever room you are in straight from your phone. This includes being able to play the same audio, perfectly synced throughout your house, or everywhere that you choose. By bringing up what he did, he showed their hand a little that one of their primary targets here are wealthy customers that have a full theater, and are adding this in a 2nd room. Maybe they even also already have a dedicated stereo system in a 2nd room, and now may add this for a 3rd room where a larger system makes little sense, especially since they already have that covered. I don't see a large market of people buying this as their only, or top system.
Another product with the single speaker line of demarcation. Is this the way young well-heeled folks prefer to listen? I grew up during the burgeoning years of stereo. If it wasn't two speakers with two discrete channels it was AM radio. I do like surround sound for the envelope that only it can create. I realize DSP can sculpt both wide frequency reproduction and a sense of surround. That said, nothing eclipses a good two speaker setup that is stereo at its best IMHO. So, this likely remarkable speaker isn't of interest to me. At the prices quoted even more so if that is possible. I do like groundbreaking audio products, even so I quickly lose interest when at prices like this so many other less costly options offer so much more bang for the buck. If this was reasonable in cost I could see it for more of a mainstream product, as it is, however, it is, likely, destined for a quite small niche market. In other words, Saul would, likely, not approve of his name on this speaker. I'm actually not a grumpy old cheapskate audiophile because the Cabasse Rialto 2-speaker set up would be my choice over this.
Thanks AudioFile, your comments make total sense. Marantz realized that they have plenty of products for both the traditional 2 channel audio buyer, and the HT enthusiast. Their research pointed them to a market that they were not serving. The good news is that these products sound really good
