A lot of people hate Nunchaku's and criticise for poor form, and freestylers but I find it an awesome way to relax and I swear it sharpens you mentally (if only fleetingly)
No problem with free style nunchaku and using nunchaku to relax. The problem is when you think / pretend you're doing martial arts (using nunchaku as a weapon) when you're not. Lying to yourself is bad enough, but it's even worse when you pretend to teach nunchaku as a martial art to your students when in fact you're not (either because you're lying to them or you don't know better).
In fact: Everybody who believes that twirling is Nunchaku FIGHTING should strike against a hard target or against Tyres. Then you can start to explore what REALLY is Nuncchaku in a fight.
Don't listen to the comments they have no discipline this video is great and it shows that you can fight back unlike others who like to defend there self with the Word of mouth
If you dont know the difference between Nunchaku twirling like a Gymnatsic tool and Nunchaku as a powerful werapon please dont say a word against people who knows about.

To address the comments about hitting yourself, I started using Nunchaku 30 years ago when I was 8. Being young you have less fear, yet I still hit myself plenty. I would say no matter what age you start, you WILL hit yourself at first. I think the more concerned you are about it, the more likely you will hit yourself. Keep practicing and it will get better. as far as where they are legal, I live in California where they are not legal. Lets just say there are ways around that.;-) I've always had at least one pair. I have a pair of red oak ones right now. Very heavy. I hit myself for the first time in 25 years the other day because of trying new stuff from videos like this.

I started 2 years ago and after a few too many incidents of smashing my head, arms, wrists, fingers even ankles with oaks I heard some pro's mention and foams! now can spin double Nunchucks very well with oak or metal.. I'm 40 by the way, so never too old to learn more ay 👍
When I saw Bruce Lee use it I was amazed with the ease in which he wield it, then I bought it myself and I kept on hitting my back and my head. It takes a bit of practice I guess

lee uses the Nunchaku in his movies only for the dramatic effect and bec he said that it is unrealistic to fight with empty hands against multiple or aremd attackers. He never want to use or trains Nunchaku as a weapon and he never "mastered" it. For him it was a nice tool for the screen, not for the street.

+Martin Dekom how old is your son ? I started with wooden ones from 14. Now i am 16,5. In my opinion, even though if you are afraid that he may hit hiself, it is better to let him with wooden ones as he can feel the pain, be more carefull and focus more on the nunchucks. Have a nice day.

faustus29 I blame the nunchaku. I doubt they're his favourite ones. They sound too flimsy. I'm the same with the telescopic ones. No amount of practise makes you good with those delicate, rattling things. :)

The best part of nunchaku is that even the most basic of movement is very hard to read. Its hard to predict where the attack will coming from.
