In person deals, I want to be under comps. If I was just going to pay comps I might as well sit at home and wait for a card to go on auction

U talked about shill bidding…. question… I was in an auction recently where it was near the end around 5.5k… i wanted to bid 6k.. but accidently entered 60k putting in an extra zero… then the timer was going down and was at like 5 minutes andI was like wow.. i may win…. i thought card would go for 10k and 6k was my highest bid I’d pay… 30 seconds before the end of auction I saw the mistake and quickly changed 60k to 6k… and I won… I think I got a great deal.. but was that a shill bid or an accident.. to me a total accident but it could have taken some bidders out… not sure.. what is ur thoughts ?

Chris, if you think it's fraud and illegal, what level of justice should be installed with the level of infraction? For example, crossing the line with a misdemeanor versus a felony fraud (say, $10 versus 10K, 100K level of shill bid)? Seeing that you are looking at and judging and authenticating what are legitimate card sales for a living, your opinion is more important than most everyone in the hobby. So, there's 2 elements here: hobby justice and legal justice. Can u comment on both in regards to shill bidding? Personally, i don't know the legal consequences of shill bidding, but it'd be good for all of us in the hobby to be aware of the legal consequences, if there are any (and, specifically, at what line is it a felony? How much jail time? Is it a federal or state crime, etc.) Personally, on the hobby justice front, i think someone should be blackballed and treated like Bill Mastro. Life is too short to hobby with people who are clearly scamming people out of money in regards to little pieces of cardboard; this hobby is sacred to many of us, which is why we spend so much time in it. Shill bidding doesn't just effect the one person and specific card, it effects the entire buying ecosystem, and hence, all of us. It should be taken way more seriously, i feel, akin to pro-athletes betting on their own teams. Thank you, and keep up the great work, gang...

There is a card I’ve been trying to buy that exceeds 20k and there is typically only one for sale each month. I can clearly see its being shilled so I don’t win the auction. This then impacts comps. Since this was a 6 figure card during COVID guessing there is the defensive bidding. Just destroys the market. I want to buy but cant logically buy.

There is a typo on the date. It says 8/29/23... made me almost skip this one! May want to change it just in case.

Is an analogy to the damage caused by shill bidding on your own cards for sale the NY business fraud case against the Trump organization and how they artificially inflated the values of their properties in order to secure more favorable loans and borrowing terms?

I’m seeing a lot of eBay buyers purchasing a card and then immediately vaulting it for an egregious buy it now price. I feel like this is essentially a form of bragging rather than an intent to sell. No solution just annoying.
