I'm brazilian and really love beat 'em up games, I was play in mid 1990s into amusement arcade called "Playland".

@@Seiko180 Vendetta has small sprites though. Violent Storm is like the apex that Konami was building towards.
I just love this game and it's post apocalyptic but positive atmosphere. Nails 90s pretty well!

I know this game came out in 1993. But sadly, this is a game I didn't know about until MANY YEARS LATER. I first heard of this game in 2008. But it wasn't until JUST NOW when I finally got to play this game! And its fantastic! I enjoyed every moment of it! I'm SO GLAD I finally got to play this game!

LOL, that part with the exotic dancer and a cat up on the stage while the guys are fighting enemies, that was totally random, hahaha!

I have played this on MAME many times in 2 Player co-op and the highest scoring player gets rewarded by her attentions.

I really love this game. Such a shame it didn't get much attention back in the day. But I'm glad to have learned about this game when I did. It has a special place in my heart.

In my mind, I took it as the three guys all liked Sheena, but she was enamored with the one who got the final blow on Geld. Now there's a fanfic idea.

Also, some people say Lord Geld is based on Tetsuo from Akira. Which I sort of agree with (mostly the cloak). But to me, he looks more like Captain Ginyu without the horns, with Souther's hairdo, and the stitches on his body from Frankenstein's monster.

I know this is a simulation, but for wade, there is the flash elbow technique to kill off opponents.
What's going on with the brightness in this game? All the characters are brighter and washed out than the backgrounds. Is this only a problem with the emulated rom or does the pcb have this problem too?

this vid was taken from an emulator, filters? also wrong aspect ratio...
No filters were used here. The resolution of this game is 384x224, so the aspect ratio is 12:7. I know that on a real arcade machine, it would be squished to 4:3, but I still decided to go with the internal resolution.
@@arronmunroe not screen ratio, pixel ratio, mame doesnt output triangular pixels like a real arcade monitor, more like square ones, compare this vid to the one you post the link, notice this one looks widescreen while the one taken with the supergun is more square, also theres the issue with mame using a diferent black level, arcade monitors are meant to be brighter than pc monitors...
as for the sprites being more colorful than the bg, well thats how the game is...

I think that was a blatant reference. As was the boss of the harbour looking like a human "ninja turtle". Rather appropriate really, as Konami did the "Aliens" arcade game AND both TMNT arcade games also!

Why did so many of these arcade games have low contrast in the colours, and in this case black that is really high contrast next to the other colours? It looks weird.
I haven't tried the real thing myself, but I believe that this is one game where the graphics are not perfectly emulated. There is a video called "Violent Storm - 1CC (2 Loops / Not MAME)" which is a direct capture, and I believe it looks more accurate, however there could always be differences in recording and processing settings too.

The main character in the blue is basically Konami version of Guy.
Actually I'd say Kyle is the "Guy" of the game (fast but weak), as Wade is basically Cody (all rounder) and Boris is Haggar (slow but strong).

It's still the original arcade game, but I was a little less careful with checking the options at the time I played it. It seems the default setting in the service menu is for blood to be turned off, and I didn't know about it, so I didn't switch it on.

I believe the emulation isn't completely accurate in this game. Someday, it might be fixed.
